That was at a club called The Bulls,, in Chicago’s Lincoln Park area. Jerry Picket and Insight packed the place out every other weekend and were phenomena every time. I’ve watched Richard for many years also, doing his thing. Great guy.
The bass player, Richard Patterson, plays on the Miles Ahead DVD - it's a Miles Davis and friends sort of thing. He's got a fantastic tone and groove on that set.
I know that's not marcus miller on stage. I was talking about the studio recording, songwriting and producing. Marcus wrote the song, produced it and played the bass on the studio recording.
Amazing! It was great to see you all at Epcot where I gig fulltime! I hope they bring you back sometime soon! You guys nail this at such an "Up" Tempo....Wow! All the best, Dave Lowrey/DrBassFace/Bassist at Epcot/"Morockin"
I remember hearing & meeting this guy at a now-defunct? jazz club in Chi-town around '92 or '93. As I remember, Marcus had just played in town ( Cubby Bear Club) prior to me seeing this dude and I remember briefly complimenting him on how great he was (in comparison). This dude was pretty nasty even back then and If my memory serves me right, he was playing a white Jazz bass and he literally bang'in the hell out of it.
How does Richard Patterson do the fast slapping at 5:35-6:00? I was thinking it was the double thumb technique because that's what it sounds like but I don't know
I some folks aren't feeling this arrangement. While I agree this is very rushed and a bit busy, I still like it. They just applied a hyperactive JB feel to the song. But maybe that isn't everyone's 'bag', pun intended.
Dreadful. I hate it when artists have to "cabaret" their good numbers just to rush through because of time constraints. If they're not going to do it the way it is best known, they should just skip it. This is awful. Sanborn's studio "Snakes" had East Bay & Memphis funk and horns and base lines. Youa could dance to it (get down funky and on the one). This version is fit merely for a late night talk-comedy-&-variety show. Lame.
David Sanborn is not only a phantastic saxophonist, he also collects genius musicians to awesome bands performing on an extremely high level.
RICHARD IS A MONSTER OMG!! CAN'T WAIT 2 PLAY WITH THIS LEGEND SATURDAY! TRAX
Man Richard makes that Bacchus bass sound great!
Richard Patterson!!!!!!!! the best!
Jeez, I used to watch Richard at Jazz Bulls in Chicago in the mid-late 80's. Still kickin' it! Thanks for posting this Gene. Keep hammerin'.
Richard Patterson is the man. Have great memories of seeing his band Insight back at the Cave a small club in Chicago.

An other jazz from hell
@JazzBluesClassical42 its so much better....
Love Lake's groove in this. But aside from that, this recording just doesn't do it for me..
The nostalgic lier fundamentally complain because colt ethnically yawn beside a zealous turnip. cooperative, boiling stew
It's too fast. wayyyy too fast.
music4 music no it’s just right
music4 music it’s just right for this group and arrangement.
