my 21 Tundra battery struggles with the windows, even brand new, when the engine is off and is starting to leak. I'll do the treatment on the replacement for sure.
Been using fluid film not only on my battery terminals for years now but also on the entire undercarriage . Keeping rust and corrosion away from my tundra 👍
Took my 2018 TRD Sport in for oil change at 18 month mark, went to pick it up and they told me they had installed a new battery. I asked why, they said they did a load test and it didn't pass, so new battery under warranty. I was shocked, all my other vehicles have been 9-10 years before a new battery was needed. Nice to know it's not just me.
Learned my lesson with my last Truck’s battery. This was the first thing I did when I got my Tundra home from the dealership. Put the treated felt rings, and applied the dielectric grease for protection. The spray you described works well too if you go that route instead.
Well I just took my tundra in for its last free check up, I told my dealer to check my battery, I just wanted to see if it was ok cause sometimes when it's in storage before they sell the vehicle the battery sits not sure if they charge battery before giving to the new buyer. Anyways they checked it apparently my battery had a little leak in it, so still under warranty the changed out my battery, with a new one so I was very happy about that.
I got the extended warranty for 60k. They dont make warranties like used to I tell you what. My dodge and my original Camry had better warranties. But. I've already replaced 2 tires w road hazzard warranty for 0 out of pocket cost. Still have old tire in storage w plug ready to go. Tires cost too much to be discarding because a nail issue.
My 2018 Tundra battery just dies last week. Went to lunch, came back and nothing. Would have been great to know a couple of weeks sooner. Thanks for the info, will be prepared now.
I had the same issue with my stock battery. My battery was clean and serviced by Toyota. After about 2 years I was out with my wife shoppping all day, we stopped to pick our child up from daycare and it was complete dead. Took a friend with a Ram 2500 to get me jumped.
My 2016 battery just went suddenly 3 days ago, was sitting in my driveway for 40 minutes on phone while in accessory mode, went to start it and nothing. Gave it a short charge to start it and went and just replaced it due to what I have heard on here in past. I don't screw around with batteries, next time I'd not be in such a convenient place.
17 Limited. Clean and treated battery terminals and it still only lasted just under 2 years. Toyota replace it for free under warranty. 2nd battery is still hanging in there.
Yeah, sorry but a lot of oem batteries barely make it 2-3 years due to all the electronics. The poles have nothing to do with it. I’ve also cleaned them in the past on cars and no go. Cheap oem batteries just don’t last long in today’s cars. Go AGM and it’ll last.
One of the problems (battery terminal/cable connection) is that for some years manufacturers are installing a cover over the positive (+) post for safety reasons. We don't think to remove the cover and look at the connection from time to time, whereas if it were exposed, we would notice the corrosion (whenever we are under the hood) and address the problem.
My TRD Pro is 6 months old this week. I just washed and detailed it today so I am 100% certain there are no rub/paint issues like Kyle posted. I had a lot of issues with the white paint on my 2012, not sure if it is paint color related. I know the white will get chips and cracks in the paint more than the other colors.
Also depends on geographical area. Here in Nevada, everyone burns through OEM and over-the-counter batteries every 2-3 years. Just part of living here.
No issues with my 2014. Original battery on my Tundra, I always kept the terminals clean on all my cars over the years. Takes two minutes with a wire brush.
Cleaning the terminals when my truck wouldn’t start was the first thing I tried with no luck. Oem battery was about 3 years old. I’m pretty sure constant 115+ degree temps in the summer don’t help in battery longevity though haha
No need for any type of spray, as long as your terminals are clean your fine. Theres no miracle spray thats going to make a battery last longer. If you really want a battery to last as long as possible you need to plug it into a battery care device like a tender or my preference an optimate, I've had the same battery in my motorcycle for 10+ years and its just finally showing it maybe need replacement soon according to my optimate. I dont take the care to do that with daily drivers though but this terminal cleaner spray will not extend the life of a battery that's just silly.
It’s kind of funny you had this post about batteries . I have a 2018 limited with 16,000 miles on it and noticed severe build up on the positive terminal . I was in shock and noticed that this was not a maintenance free battery . I cleaned them myself and cleaned the terminal And noticed that the batteries then selves are warped on the top as in not flat and the sides are caving in . I am notifying my local dealer but cleaned and treated the terminals with white lythium grease spray that I have done for years on all of my vehicles . So far 1 week later no leaks . I don’t know maybe the tech didn’t tighten the caps very well while maintaining service a month ago and this happened ? I will let you know what happens when I go in for service .
I had to replace my battery right at the 2 year mark on my 2017 Tundra. It just died with no warning. Also, the alignment issue I noticed on my tailgate. The area where the hinge lock is has a small dent on the left (driver side) as if it does not line up correctly when I close the tailgate. I wish I could post a picture on here. Wondering if anyone else has this issue on their tailgate???
I would think the trim on the truck might affect battery platinum models might have more draw for all the extras. I got around 5 years on Toyota battery
Get rid of the stock battery and replace it with an AGM battery like Optima. Just put one in my truck. Not gonna waste my time with the stock toyota battery and its only been in my 2020 tundra for five months.
3 years is average life for battery.......take good care of it you can stretch it out to 4 to 5, any longer than that you're pushing your luck, plenty of drivers on the road who get stalled when weather goes from fall to winter temps and again from spring to hot summer temps. They're usually the ones that either push it or are just plain lazy and stupid.
I ran into this very issue this morning. Thank u for sharing the info. greatly appreciated.
My 2017 tundra's battery only lasted 3 years. It went out with no warning signs. Thanks for the videos.
Same in my 17 ,but mine only made it just 2years. No warning or anything . On a sunday too.Atleast it died in my driveway.

Thank you Waterdog for the battery tip.

i got my tundra 2 in a half years ago check battery date it was 9/18 7 years runnning strong 😅 should i change it or wait 10 years 😂

Also the voodoo blue! I have the same problem my 2020!
@@azphilip1960 - that's surprising.

Anyone who is having a RUB issue should be taking it back to the dealer .........first!

Amazing.... I'm coming up on 6 years on my stock orginal Tacoma battery!
my battery lasted 3 months before the dealership had to replace it.

I have a 2016 tundra which I got in Dec 2015 and it's still kicking good. I I don't know if it has to do climate we live in but I live in SC.
No issue on my 2007.
It’s still nearly as new.
My terminals were treated and i still only got 3 years out of my battery. I replaced it with a interstate...
My original Toyota True Start battery lasted 8 1/2 years!
I just experienced a stock battery issue on my 2018 Tundra, it just crapped-out without warning!

Not true. Mine was super clean and trashed at 10 months. The oem battery is Toyota’s Achilles heal.
Wish Toyota still had the Panasonic as OEM.
THOSE lasted at least 10 years on my vehicles.
M I forgot to mention I replaced mine with a NorthStar
@@MrGhostwolf999 is that a brand of lighter Lithium (?) batteries?
M No it’s anything but light. Lol. It’s a lead mat battery. Super heavy but highly recommended.
@@MrGhostwolf999 Thanks.
Hope the other visitors to this channel will look into this as an option.
I definitely will.

Ofcourse TOYOTA USA sends him an absolutely useless reply to his letter.

all i get from this is toyota installing crap oem batteries.
