- In this rail transport modeling video made by Pilentum, we discover a large and fully operating model railroad layout consisting of many modules in HO scale. Over the last two decades, the members of a German model railroader club have constructed one of the largest, transportable modular layouts, on which mainly model trains of the German and Austrian railroads run. Trains run in two-rail or three-rail operation as required and are operated by Digital Command Control.
A total of 168 individual modules are currently available, whereby these layout modules can be individually configured to form a large setup in 1/87 scale (H0). The modules, portable sections of table type structures, are built specifically for use interfacing with others in a large setup. All are built to a set of standards that allow each unit to interface exactly with other units anywhere in the overall system which result in a maximum track length of over 1,200 meters.

Love the video. Loved the Norwegian NSB B7 cars, but El18 replaced by its Swiss sibling RE 460? Odd choice.

I've always wondered why German railway modelling remained so terribly toy-like as compared to American and above all British (and in a slightly lesser measure) French layouts? Maybe something to fo with the overarching influence of Märklin 3 rail system or the historic weight of Nuremberg tin-plate toys heritage...
expensive trains
Bullshit Märklin has only 15 share in the market here, most layouts are 2 rail. Problem is locos and rolling stock are expensive compared to US, therefore 90 % of German modelers do.no weather their equipment. So it looks toy like. Some friends asked my why I had weathered my expensive O scale locos. I never told them the prices of my Sn3 stuff 😂😂😂😂 For British layout, yep, beautifully made but most engines run mediocre and look more like caricatures than the real thing.
Märklin toy like?
I guess you're not up to date than.
Sure the older stuff might look toy like with a few exceptions like my BR23 wich is a realistic model actualy. Made in 1963 and still running like new.
Can you say that of your Chinese made Bachmann and Athern stuff.
Märklin was and is a brand that focuses more on actualy using and playing than collecting (gathering dust)
And because of the third rail has almost no hiccups.
Funfact: their third rail was an existing system before overhead wires.
