    Dan, I remember renting your book from the library when I was just a kid. I'm thrilled to have found you online. I created a Jigsaw puppet replica (the head) with your papier mache method. Thank you for sharing your creativity with the world!

    Thank you Dan! latex mask I made when I was a kid. 1989. well before The Walking Dead. Sadly its difficult to find time to do the things I love to do. I greatly admire all you do and continue to do. maybe when my kids are a bit older I'll have more time to explore new possibilities in artistic expression. especially creature creation.

    • @Gourmetpapermache
      @Gourmetpapermache  7 лет назад

      I know how hard it is to find time for art! And yes, raising kids is another full time job! I was very lucky that I had some time because I taught school for a living. So I had time during the year, particularly summers, to do my art. After 40 years of teaching I retired so that I could devote the time I have left to my art. I hope you can carve out some time to do the same. We must pay the bills of course, but we have to feed our souls too.
      Nice talking with you. Keep in touch Geoff.

    Seen this video 20 x's and it's still amazing that you can make critters like this. Where is a good cheap place to get all them bed sheets?? That's a lot of fabric that adds up?

    • @Gourmetpapermache
      @Gourmetpapermache  6 лет назад +1

      Hey Shawn. I buy my bed sheets at Goodwill. I used to go to a place here called Value Village, but then they stopped putting out very old, worn sheets, the kind I like. And I found out that they are part of a giant conglomerate that purports to donate to charity. But they really don't. Goodwill does, and so I support them. Not sure if Goodwill is everywhere though.

    • @shawnsmith1865
      @shawnsmith1865 5 лет назад

      We do have Goodwill here in my area but I don't see them putting bed sheets out. I went to the local fabric shop and got a batch of Muslin cotton cloth to use. It isn't as soft as old bed sheets but will still give it a try. I can get it for under $3 a yard.

    • @Gourmetpapermache
      @Gourmetpapermache  5 лет назад

      @@shawnsmith1865 Goodwill with no bed sheets? Strange. Ours has rows and rows. Hope the muslin works out. If you wash with heavy bleach first it will break down some of the fibers. Good luck!

    Can you do this paper mache projects successfully without the use of wire hangers. Or is it a must. I making a raptor .

    • @Gourmetpapermache
      @Gourmetpapermache  5 лет назад

      You don't absolutely need hangers. But if your project is fairly large or if the legs are carrying significant weight, then you'll need some kind of reinforcing at the joints, like at the knees etc.. Wire makes it strong where it needs to be and when you bend the appendages they stay put.

    Tempat tinggal di Indonesia, Saya suka sekali tutorial video Anda menampilkan langkah langkah yang sederhana tetapi memerlukan latihan berkelanjutan jika belum menguasai seni patung. Yang menjadi pertanyaan saya dan membuat saya berpikir terus adalah : Bahan kain yang digunakan sejenis apa ( karung terigu atau goni ?), untuk bahan taring dan tanduk menggunakan bahan apa ? dan untuk mata menggunakan bahan apa ( mungkin asesoris mata yah). Untuk bahan lain seperti kertas koran bekas, plester kertas dan lem sudah tesedia, tetapi bahan yang saya tanyakan belum tesedia. Keterangan anda saya perlukan, terimakasih

      Halo Nana. Saya senang Anda menyukai videonya. Setelah memahat dengan potongan kertas mache, saya menambahkan "kulit" kain (seprai tua) yang dicelupkan ke dalam lem putih (semua tujuan). Saya membuat gigi dan tanduk dari Fimor atau Sculpey (tanah liat polimer). Saya membeli mata secara online dari perusahaan taksidermi. Semoga berhasil!

      I get the bed sheets at thrift stores. I buy the oldest, cheapest, most worn they sell. I've never checked the label. I really don't know what material is in them, probably some combination of synthetics and cotton. Sorry

      I use flour and water paste for the paper mache pieces. After sculpting with the pieces I add a layer of "skin" using cloth (old bed sheets) dipped in white glue (I prefer Elmer's Glue All).
