Audessy Calibration devices are for beginners only! Always use your ears & a pre-selected soundtrack to calibrate & dial in a surround system. Knowing what a specific surround track should sound like during playback is the best tool for dialing in an AV and speaker system. This has never failed me yet no matter how many home theaters I've set up. Works every time. If you use a mic + Audessy system for set up & it doesn't deliver the 3D surround sound that's sought after by "every" Home Theater enthusiast? You're back to square 1. The simple set up advice I gave works every time. ~ peace
Mykal Fury I was told the same thing by a hi end audio store owner. I set my sub's (SVS Pb 13Ultra) parametrics q-factor etc by ear with familiar passages in movies. Measure the speaker distances and meter them out including the sub.
What do you think about Yamaha Cinema DSP? Their movie theater modes, Adventure, and Sci-FI. Would you say that when layering another rooms acoustics over standard Dolby digital is not a good idea ? What is your take on those ?
Praying Mantis Kung Fu: The Yamaha DSP Theater modes are for stereo film tracks encoded with 2 or more surround channels within to be decoded later. Example: A stereo only broadcast of a sci-fi film on HBO will have Dolby surround channels hidden within the 2 channel stereo sound delivered in the broadcast & Yamaha's theater modes will retrieve those hidden channels & play them over the side & rear surround speakers. True Dolby Digital or DTS should always be played in straight mode.
Because there are standard Dolby Digital & DTS stereo tracks with surround sound encoded into them. Those are the film sound tracks to be decoded with surround sound DSP modes such as Spectacle Sci-Fi Adventure Also, there are concert films in Dolby Digital Stereo which can be decoded with the Music Hall modes like Munich Vienna Chamber Roxy Theater etc. However, if the Dolby Digital or DTS is a 5.1 format or bigger? Use the "Straight Mode." Keep in mind, you can use the DSP modes on whatever sound tracks you like. That's part of the fun. Keep in mind, that "cinema magic" surround sound we seek? Is waiting for us in the DTS-HDMA & Dolby True Master tracks. DSP modes can ruin the 3D sonic magic that "WOWS" us st our local movie theater. Sooner or later? As Home Theater enthusiasts, we find ourselves opting for the pure DTS-HDMA & Dolby True Master tracks. By the way, I love my Yamaha 7.1 AV Receiver & it's DSP modes. There tons of fun. Example: I've gotta' "Scorpions" Concert DVD "Live in Vienna" & I use My Yamaha "Vienna" DSP mode when playing that DVD. Trick is to just HAVE FUN. ~ peace
Cool! The video starts and my speakers are on display. Automatic thumbs up for me!!!

Someone really should have given him a mic / lavalier ... would have added to the great info he's giving :/
Bad audio is a huge distraction for me. especially for a channel who's focus is on audio quality

Ok thank you. So why does the manual say they are made too work with Dolby digital and DTS?

Talk to much
Lots of tips. At no point does he go into details of room tuning or calibration.... Video starts with a completed setup. Poor "calibration" video.
100% agree
