That was the noisiest amp that I ever owned. Yes, it had plenty of gain and was great to use in my house but too noisy to weekly gig with. I even got an empty Runt 20 combo shell and transplanted into a combo. Try putting the EL84’s that it came stock with. Also, the stock V1 should have been labeled High Gain. Is that still in the same position? If it is, put a regular 12AX7 in V1 and see how that sounds. Again, great amp but too noisy for me. I guess I’m spoiled with my SLO 30.
@@CHAINDRIVENOFFICIAL I'm watching a few of these on reverb since you posted that video. That stock tone is just amazing! What does that CAB have in it (speaker?)
@@bradtabor8699 Creamback. Yeah it sounds great dimmed stock for sure. It's way too loud out of the box for me. You have to drive it wide open and put a OD1 or Tube Screamer in front of it. I'm trying to get that breakup at a lower room volume. I'm going to yank the mod and try the EL844 with something pushing the front end.
That STOCK setting sounds much better than the mod. Just boost the front-end if you want more gain.
@@bradtabor8699 possibly. I was thinking of getting an old OD1.
