Just a little correction: The in-between frames were not made using 3d CGI; instead, they used an interpolation method called Optical Flow. This approach was invented when they were doing the VFXs for the movie What Dreams May Come (1998), which was a research that happened in parallel with the effects for The Matrix, by the vfx team at Mass Illussions.
@@CGokce6 Simplest description is you analyze 2 adjacent frames to identify where elements move from one frame to the other. This can be done by dividing the frame up into blocks (think like squares on a Chess board) and then trying to find an x,y coordinate in the other frame that most closely matches each block. The change in coordinates is the motion vector for each block.
Once the vectors for all the blocks are mapped, you can then manufacture new frames by literally moving the blocks around, in conjunction with some warping or blending around the edges of the blocks. With The Matrix, they would have applied this process to the keyed elements of the actors to smooth their motion out, and then composite that in with a full render of the digital backgrounds.
You can actually see a lower quality version of optical flow if you use motion smoothing on your TV to make moves look more fluid. It's not as precise as possible because it has to respond in real time but it's the same process.

The Matrix was a defining moment in cinema for all the right reasons.
Another thing to note is that the fight scenes had good choreography where the actors learned to fight somewhat, its why you see so less cuts in fight scenes in the matrix compared to alot of other movies nowadays.
Ive watched the making of this trilogy like dozens of times and they never really showed exactly how they got that one shot where morpheus gets shot in the ankle and that awesome blood squib pops within the splash so stylish. love that shot.
Loved that freeze frame moment.. Just God tier work! literally by the Wachowski's team.
and this little movie stole all of the Phantom Menace's thunder.
In the 80s there was a documentary about animals where they used this technique to capture pigeons taking off . I was stunned that time to see that. Then i've never heard of it used later on and thought i was just hulicinating .When i saw rhe matrix movie i jumped out of my place saying that's rhe same !
Great visuals!!
Here before this blows up
Haha! As soon as i saw the thumbnail i know what it is!
Wait... this narrator sounds like the other inspiration tuts. Is this a second channel?
Yeah it seems like he made it only for vfx breakdowns
That was an epic effect in the movie. Those vfx artists should have got an academy award.
...They did.
Brilliant!
That was freakishly well explained and professionally done, have a sub.
Absolutely!
Subbed and wish you the greatest success m8!
TECHNICALLY NOT "never before". *Lost in Space* invented "bullet time"
They had two giant Logitech Z207 speakers on the set? (in the back at 0:22)
I believe the movie Lost in Space did the bullet time before the Matrix.
Like I just said... you get a gold star and a smiley face on your homework.
Scene is pretty in a sense that it underlines spectacle. Forrest Gump has equally impressive SFX scenes.
This was done 25+ years ago - let THAT sink in - and it still looks better than just about everything vfx today (2024)
This is high quality visuals in this video keep it up 🎉 first here
My take is that Matrix Reloaded and to a lesser extent Revolutions- dropped the ball. Too much money, production control?!, ideas and concepts but boring script and kinda low stakes, abstract dialogue and an absent visual style. From a sequel standpoint = a catastrophe. Better to have given it to Cameron/Scott/Spielberg/Jackson…
The visuals 😲😲😲😲😲
amazing cinematography, time to watch matrix again
