Japanese style handle wrap “Tsuka Ito” my way.

- This is an uncut video of how I wrap my standard “Japanese style” handles, And tie the Turks knot guard. There are lots of ways to do this, this is just me doing it my way. It looks pretty easy, but I have probaly done well over 1,000 knives with this style handle. Kind of boring, but
maybe someone can learn something! 😂
Not shown, after the wrap is done, I soak the handle is marine grade epoxy to make it durable and waterproof.

Thanks for posting this unedited in real time. It may not be for everyone but I really enjoyed seeing the complete process from beginning to end. I definitely learned a few things.Bobby pins, wow, never crossed my mind. Seems like the perfect simple tool for a part of the process I have struggled with. Being self taught it's very helpful for me to see someone else's approach to a similar process. Awesome job! Hope there is plenty more to come.
Thanks! Hope it helps.
that hinge dealie is SUCH a good idea!! great stuff
It’s so helpful.
Best video I’ve seen on wraps! Thank you !
Glad you liked it!!

Needs to be something better than a thumbs up button fir this vid..loved it..appreciated it..and im so glad it wasnt over dubbed with a bunch of music...perfect..new sub here..and saving up to get one of your knives...wish you were going to blade show texas this year..
Fantastic video, and just what I had been looking for! Using a hinge for the wrapping jig is genius. Many thanks!
Glad it helped!
Love these vids. Thanks for sharing your work with us.
Glad you like them!
I shudder to think how many hours you’ve likely spent in front of that rusty hinge. Thank you for sharing. Most impressive.
Very cool to see how you do it. Been admiring your work on insta for quite some time now. I'm all for Blanding traditional and modern styles, techniques, etc. Nice work.
Bobby pins, heating the blade before cutting, very useful! Thank you!
Glad it helped!
@@BRTBladeworks It did, among other things. Now trying to figure out how to do Hartsfield sheaths. A closely guarded secret. :)
@@BRTBladeworks It did greatly. Thank you for sharing. Now trying to figure out how to do Hartsfield sheaths, a closely guarded secret. :)
That's beautiful man, just beautiful!
Amazing work! Keep it up!
Thanks!
Love this! Thank you!
Very cool. What is the under wrap material?
It is a hemp cord.
I like your technique...black on black, hands in the way and no close up it was hard for me to follow. Really like your usage of the hinge
Thanks for watching. Its not really a step by step how to, just me doing my work.
Nice! ...but I can't quite make out important details of your method. I'm a beginner (hobbyist) knife maker and I'm having trouble finding how-to's on this. How did you learn? Do you maybe know of any tutorials that go into more detail and explanation?
Hey! If you search "tsuka ito" you will find some more video with more details. After that, lots of practice and coming up with methods that work for you. It's taken me probably 10years of learning and practice to get here with these wraps.
@@BRTBladeworks Thanks! ...been searching that, and most of it is sword handles etc... I believe I understand most of the basics, but I'm trying to figure out exactly how to end the main wrap like you do on a *knife handle just like this.*
With the large hole at the butt where you wrap, cut, burn, then appear to do more tucking or something?
Your knives look great, and I'd like to try this handle style, but I can't figure out exactly how you do that end wrap part.
Any chance you'd make another video with a close up of that part? ...and maybe a little explaining?
😍🤩
COMO SABES CUANTO CORDON NECESITAS EN CADA UNO DIFERENTE TIENES ALGUNA FORMULA O ALGO ASI ? PARA QUE NO FALTE HILO?
Was that deck tape?
Rubber grip tape. It builds up the handle and covers the lighting holes.
What is the last cord you are using? Where do you get it from?
Do you brush a resin over all of that ..I have one of your knives it feels like G10
Yes I do. I brush it on and it soaks in so it looks natural and feels solid. It’s a marine grade epoxy.
@@BRTBladeworks I also have a RJ Martin wasabi with the same type of wrap.
The handle looks like it was dipped in epoxy it's on there pretty thick. I still love the knife but I'm in love with your method of applying
Which tape do you take for the winding?
It is a hemp cord.
