"Tribute to Costas Virvos"
"The Courtyard of Colors" continues its musical journey, with a tribute to the poet of our folk song, Costa Virvos.
The hosts, the journalist Athena Kampakoglou and the great composer, bouzouki master Christos Nikolopoulos, have dedicated today's show to the "mega" creator of folklore from Trikala who marked an entire century and made our music richer.
In our tribute, our guests sing uniquely the songs of the distinguished "master craftsman" lyricist: Giota Nega, Giannis Dionysiou, Panos Papaioannou and Christiana Galiatsou.
At the table with us: Maria Virvou - daughter of the great poet, who has written the biography of her father "I do not live on my knees" and describes, very vividly and expressively, moments of his life and inspiration…!
The actor and writer from Trikala, Costas Krommidas, refers with great admiration to the great poet he adored.

Vangelis Alexandris, who also grew up in Trikala, declares himself a fan of the songs of the great lyricist and remembers ..
Our artistic curator, Costas Balachoutis, in his special insert, briefly presents the huge work of Costas Virvos, explains why there was a boulder of Greek folk song and refers to the beautiful collaborations he had with him.
Virvos wrote and was inspired by the pain, the persecution, the suffering, the misery of the people but also his own. Characteristic is the song 'Tis Gerakina Gios'. It is an autobiographical, experiential piece, with its memories of his arrest, torture and imprisonment during the Occupation.
But he also wrote about love, joy, hope, life ...
"My father's favorite song was 'A car with two horses', to music by Grigoris Bithikotsis, with whom he had a piggy bank and they had co-signed 8 complete big records". The song is performed by Panos Papaioannou.
He collaborated closely with his fellow citizens from Trikala, Tsitsanis, Kaldaras, Bakalis and was a unique duo with Theodoros Derveniotis.
He did great shows with Vassilis Vassiliadis but also with ours, Christos Nikolopoulos, who remembers ... with nostalgia, the beautiful coexistences with him.
Maria Virvou reveals to us that the lyrics of the song "A deep bow, a handshake" that Bithikotsis dressed with his music, became the occasion for the prolific Dimitris Psathas to call him "Sir Bithi" and this follows him forever …
How did the French "Bell ami" become "In Bellamy the ouzo"?
The song of Kostas Virvos describes how in the hangouts he frequented, taverns, bars, ouzo, he drank, his thoughts were 'released' and so his verses 'went down' with great comfort !. The song is performed by Giannis Dionysiou.
A nice moment of the tribute, the one where Christos Nikolopoulos takes the bouzouki with the melodic voice of Giota Nega and they perform: ‘I was born to hurt…’
