My first car was a '78. I ended up keeping it for 7 years. I kind of miss it after seeing this.

Had the pleasure of driving my parents 77 T Bird, silver metallic w/dark blue interior. What a car to drive as a 17 yr old ! 351 CID Windsor engine in ours BTW those look like Mercury Cougar wheels don't remember those being offered on a TBird - they may be aftermarket as well

I would yank out that plebian bench seat and install the correct twin comfort lounge seats and power windows & door locks that already should be in this caliber of automobile

Honestly gotta applaud the correct use of plebeian in a sentence in 2024.

Nice car. The 77 Cougar resembles this. The headlights and grille are different..I had a yellow one with a chocolate color Vynil top and matching interior. Wish I still had it.

Not bad, except for Clock dont work, no power windows, locks, no sunroof, chrome pitting bumpers is the start of rust, etc.

I bought a 1976 mercury cougar brand new, which I still have. The clock isn't running on my car, the reason why is I unplugged it many years ago. If it ran for 47 1/2 years straight it probably wouldn't run either, it would be worn out. If I plugged it in now, I am sure it would run. All new cars today have power windows, locks etc. Back in the malaise era, there were many cars without power windows etc. I bet half the car's back then didn't have all those features, they have on cars of today.

No PW or PL is a PLUS. Less to go wrong. No Sunroof (they were called Moonroofs back then) or T Tops is another PLUS. Bumpers can be easily rechromed but I would live with extremely minor pitting. I purchased a 1977 T Bird new in 77. One year out of High School. Dove Grey, Grey cloth interior, 302, Automatic, PS, PB, A/C, AM-FM 8 Track. Super nice car. Drove it for 10 years. Wish I had it back.

And no cruise control. My '77 had that and delay wiper but no power windows, door locks, or seats. Mine also had the automatic parking brake release and split bench seats this car doesn't have. Also, mine had the racing mirrors with the right-side remote control. It doesn't appear to have tilt steering wheel. Those wheels look like they came from an earlier Torino because I don't remember those being available on the Thunderbird. Those are Magnum 500 wheels; those were available for the ""Starsky and Hutch" Torinos.

Nice Thunderbird! Are you sure it’s a ‘77? It has the headlight doors of a ‘78. The 1977 models didn’t have chrome framed headlight doors and they didn’t have the Thunderbirds on them either. The ‘77 headlight doors are rather plain.

Good catch! I had a '77 and installed those on my headlight covers, as I thought they really dressed up the front of the car. Perhaps that is the case here? The VIN indicates a '77.

Actually it depends when you buy the car from the dealership they come with options that you would like but your right about the 78 headlights my friend had a 78 T- Bird with the auto headlights back in 1985 those where the years

I had a '77. I'd bet someone put those T-bird emblems on the headlight doors. Mine had the larger "Thunderbird" script on the left door. 1978 had the smaller "Thunderbird" script on the left door PLUS the T-bird emblems. Mine had been wrecked and the grille was the deluxe grille that was standard on the 1979 models. I had a friend that put a T-bird front end on a Ranchero. GREAT VIDEO!

I had a 78 LTDII. Basically the same car. Mine was midnight blue/chamois, 351-W. I loved that car. First new car I ever owned. Wish I still had it.

He said the engine was a 351; Windsor, or Modified? I think the 400 was available this year and 1978.

77-79 the T bird rode on the Torino chassis I would rather have a 76 Gran Torino Sport Ford sure screwed up their Mid Car choices in those days then they come out with the LTD 2 which was the same and the Ford Elite those designers must have all been experimenting with designer drugs in those days T bird started out as a sports car which it finished as 2002 - 2005 but I prefer the Luxury birds on the Lincoln Chassis 72 - 76 Scotch on the rocks please once I’m parked for the day & off the road

I had a new 77 'Bird in black, on which I installed BFG RTA's in 1979. They were the best tires I could have bought for this car. Amazing difference in ride quality, and very dependable tires. Also put them on my '79 Town Landau.
