"ima go with the initial impression of this beer, it's pretty gross"
Hahaha, man that got me good haha
Haha! Always real!
I wonder if you have done cosmic crown from cigar city can not find a video yet if not u should do it sometime can find it a publix
Huh, their website says it should be at my local Publixes. I haven't noticed them yet. I'll have to see next time.
I always like to see you review widely available beers. I probably won’t be trying this one because I like old-school IPAs, but I don’t mind the original Goose IPA. It’s nothing great, but I like it a bit better than Founders Centennial at a similar price point when money is tight.
Nice! I wish they sent fresh Centennial to me.
Subscribed you're a king
Thank you!
Just brought this and the 6.5 secret beer hug 12oz. Hopefully it's good for me
Secret Beer Hug?!
I'll get the 19.2 fl oz cans of 10%+ beers once in a while. Good for sipping over a couple of hours while reading a book. Pints are still preferable for that, but some of the beers I get are either 19.2 fl oz, or 24 fl oz bombers (and MAYBE 12 fl oz seasonal variety packs). Don't really need 24 fl oz of 10%+ beer.
Seriously, I don't know why so many high abv beers only come in large format packages (or are only stocked as such here). I get the sharing aspect, but that just isn't my usual usage case.
Yeah, I think people are trying to get wasted with 1 can. I guess demand is there for it.
I find you have to drink a beer multiple times before you can actually come to a real conclusion. There have been plenty that I didn't like at first try that I've come to like a lot, this included.
There you go. That's why you got a re-review here...
I got that bear hug variety pack and this was not impressive. My favorite from the bunch was the neon bear hug
I agree! That's better than this.
To me, Tropical Beer Hug, is pretty dry. I can easily detect the wheat over the fruit. It has a slight bitterness at the end of the sip that lingers on my palate. I don't find Tropical Beer Hug harsh or offensive. It's 9.9 abv is very sneaky and it snuck up on me without warning. After a couple a' three tall boys of Tropical Beer Hug , I found myself in an odd yet warm place. Cheers!
Dang son. How you drink that much?!
The purpose of this beer is to buy the tall 19.2 oz one for 3 dollars at the overpriced liquor store (the only one open late night near you), where 9.99 6 packs sell for 12.99 and you want to get your drink on. Maybe you pick up a lighter ABV tall boy to sip on after as well haha. It doesn't taste good but not bad and it's super high ABV so this beer isn't that bad. From a perspective of wanted a beer to enjoy the taste and appreciate it it's not good at all. What are some good imperial IPA's that you would recommend that taste really good? I haven't seen many that tasted much better. 90 Min dogfish is super sweet and thick, hopslam on tap was good but I never got it in bottle. Hardcore Chimera wasn't very tasty. Double two hearted was worse than Beer Hug. Great Lakes Vibacious Double IPA was too sweet again and not very good but drinkable. I even tried Dead Guy Imperial IPA and it was meh. What would you recommend that is commercially available from the above 9% Imperial IPA category?
I guess there isn't much in my market that hits that ABV other than New Belgium. I do highly recommend dry Belgians brews. It doesn't always have to be hoppy and American...
@@DarwinsBeerReviews I do agree with you then that once you hit triple IPA its just going to taste worse. Its more sacrifice the flavor for abv. I try all sorts of beer not only american. Was just wondering about ur opinion on the triple IPAS. 6.5-8% is def the sweet spot for IPA.
@@adamo36532 I agree. That's a good sweet spot right there. I aim 7-8%.
I was completely underwhelmed by this beer - picked it up in Chicago too. My wife said "it doesn't taste like anything"
Haha, that's true I guess. From the wife's words!
Pretty soon IPAs are gonna be the new Budweisers, Millers, Michelob, etc
I hope not
How so?
I still think there's no reason to break 8.5% for an IPA, either becomes way to sweet, boozy, hot (alcohol), or all the above.
That’s been my experience. A lot of double IPAs get too sweet, especially the older WC-style ones.
I haven't had a big hazy, so this is more in regard to more traditional IPAs. I feel like big IPAs (9%+) start to feel more like American barleywines. I really like that style, so it isn't a problem to me. Dogfish Head's 90 Minute IPA, for example. It still feel predominantly like an IPA, but it is dipping its toes into barleywine territory, and I love that.
I tend to agree!
@@Vykk_Draygo what barlywines do you recommend? I've been strictly IPAs for years but wouldn't mind venturing out.
It idn't hazy.
That's true...
Nondescript hoppyness is the worst. So boring! Recently I've ended up sharing some of those cans that are just nondescript with my brother because i feel like I'm getting drunk for no reason lol.
It'll do that! For drinking, not thinking.
I haven't been a fan of really any Goose Island IPA. They have been pretty meh.
True story.
Yeah i got the variety pack and it wasn't good at all. Goose islands not that good anymore.
Nope. I avoid those.
Pretty pretentious take on a pretty decent beer at a good price point. By the way you describe “taste”, you’re referring to the amount of hops? And fruit notes secondary? I’ll have to watch more of your videos I guess, because almost everything you said missed the mark. Except for the booziness. This beer is super drinkable, juicy west coast IPA pretty much. 🤷♂️ 👨⚖️
Hey, maybe I need to give the newer batches another try. Great value is a thing.
I agree with you man, I think it's super drinkable and boozy... One of my go to's. This guy is an influencer so he's overanalyzing
Wow. Pretentious was the first thought that came to my mind as well. Lol
