After I build that amazing Stirling with the great instructions from Atila Blade I too didn't know how it worked. Thinking about it over and over again I think this is how that stirling engine works. The piston moves upwards when hot (expansion ) and downwards when cool ( contraction ) The heat source heats the bottom of the can and heat is transferred to air above it slowly by convection as displacer reaches bottom hot air is transferred to upper air above displacer creating a pressure moving the piston upwards and the heat is transferred to the air instantly radiantly when air pressure increases density of air to than that more of the balloon. On the downstroke pressure decreases to less than that of rubber and heat is transferred radiantly instantly back to the air. Radiant heat transfer is instant and heat transfer due to convection is very slow. Heat travels radiantly towards a denser mass and will not travel in the opposite direction. Conventional heat transfer only occurs in the upwards direction. I hope this helped. Good video as usual Mr ludic.
greetings from Brazil to all. that is simple engine to build. and just exchange the balloon for a flexible steel blade and have a SUPER MOTOR !!! or electric generator. very good. congratulations. success.
For you everything is easy to make LOL. To find the optimum weight maybe use a spring on the top and adjust it to see how much pressure is needed and translate it to weight.
Thank you for explaining can sizes, weights and measurements and possiblys , I like the way you cover your videos , GOOD JOB , YOUR FRIEND'S MARY AND JAMES U.S.OF A....❤
Nice simple video of the construction. I wonder if having the cut on the outer can further down the side so there is more cooling area, and maybe a little insulation between the hot end and the cold end would make it run even better.
It is easy to understand. Displacer piston is moving to hot and cold side and doing all the work (pressure expand and shrinks). The "power" piston is not making any work. It is only to make resonance (to make it 90deg later in standard srirling engine). It is also keeping displacer in move. Youre welcome.
Followed instructions perfectly but it doesn't work because I couldn't find kiwi strawberry and green tea flavors and used a pepsi. This was the problem because in the second attempt I made the engine with an energy rx and arnold palmer light for more power and weight reduction, respectively. Then I replaced the pepsi with coke i got from a guy at the skate park. The engine now produces unfathomable amounts of power and agility, but really drags after a while and begins to randomly backfire for no apparent reason. I wonder if there is a facility I can send it to for some tuning so it may perform in a more balanced manner for longer periods of time. Disclaimer: The above may be confusing if you have never gotten paid, snort the money constantly until 2 am on Monday, realize your out of money at 2:03 am, and show up to work 8 looking like you spent your weekend trying to keep up with the Kardashians
very good, I'm getting fascinated with these engines. I will try to make one of those you showed. but came up with the idea of using one of those aliexpress low temperature stirling engine made for coffee mug.. on the backplate of my video card, putting fan blades on the rotating part .. the intention would be to have something interesting inside the computer visible through the case window .. I imagine it would not have much efficiency in cooling the computer, but would help dissipate the heat of the board (witch gets up to 75C) by having a metal base and a little air circulation with the fan blades in place of the wheel. it would be easier with a simple normal cooler fan, but not as nice lol. a "free" energy fan.. You could try a video using one of these, I think it would be interesting.
it works on rise n drop pressure right? everytime it goes further from flame pressure drops back down the can cools so fast huh? or it sucks in air from the holes or both? i guess a little both but doesnt this model rely on holes n cover it up no worky?
How did you find the sizes of the cans? Did you make any calculations? Based on what rules? Or by trial and error? I tried to make your construction from cans of slightly different sizes and it doesn't work:(
Any ideas why it might not be working? I followed the instructions, although the lines I cut were not very straight they seemed good enough. Do I need a box like that to put the flame in? I have a homemade alcohol burner just like that I’m using, and I have it set about 2 1/2 inches above the burner on a metal grate, and the flame is touching the can quite a bit.
Hey ludic science, I have made the wireless energy transfer device that u showed 4 years ago and was astonished to find that if u turn the coil upside down(180 degrees) it gives less or greater voltage! I made the circuit various times and with different types and turns of coils....all supporting this theory....but I am still confused. It might be somewhere my error that I can not seem to find.... I don't own an oscilloscope so I am hoping that u can confirm my experiment and possibly give an explanation. Thanks a lot... Love ur vids...
Hi, I think the air signals that you are receiving are not symmetrical and that is the reason you get different voltages depending on orientation, to confirm that you need an oscilloscope....
Strange ! I think the upper part of the can acts like cold rad, but the tape is too large and the heat cannot evacuate properly ; try to put a narrower tape so that the rad works better.
Sir is the diameter of all the three cans is the same? Also what is the purpose of the small hole in the last step, bcs u have closed it the hole by connecting it with other can by the tape.
The can inside has a little smaller diameter, I couldn't do it because my cans have all the same diameter (I have tall beer cans and normal size coke cans)
Ola, meu amigo!! Êste free piston está muito legal e a explicação é exelente!!! Gostei , no meu canal Também tento fazer alguns!!! Parabéns, será bem vindo, gosto muito de todas as tuas apresentaçoes!!! Abração!!!
If you wrap a damped napkin around the upper part it won't melt as long as the napkin is wet. Well may be it will melt but it will last a lot longer because it get's rid of the excess heat
Tens and tens of attempts during a whole f..... month and it f......ng does not work. I replicated your engine and attila’s one folloWing the exact f....ng instructions and it still f.....ng does not work

The power cylinder should be smaller ~1/5 of the displacer cylinder. It depends on the temperature difference.
Ludic science have gone mad over engines rather than motors these days .. Great vid

FANTASTIC demo. Very nice, my friend.
It seems to work much better with a lot of weight
Very good explanation and useful video, thanks for sharing
Amazing!! Great project!!!
👍 -> There's nothing more to say about it, everything perfect!
Silly question - 9" or 12" balloons? 9" seemed too tight, 12" too loose; which did you use?
sorry is an old video i dont remember
Fun little project.
👌
Serious, big project in my opinion. The only comprehensive one I've found on youtube. All the others are simply not.
Supercool project!

Fine! Keep the good work man
What is causing the displacer to move? Is the pinhole responsible for the movements?

I also only have one weak magnet and a washer the weight of a quarter on the balloon, which I think might be the problem.
Hello,
How long does the system run (without cooling)?
Thanks 😊

An explicit regenerator implementation is missing in this version of the Free Piston Strirling Engine.
I think the thin heat conducting walls of the displacer probably add some of that function back.
Great!
Thanks
But u closed the final hole small in the can with the sealing tape again.y?
Wonderful
