I think the reason why Madrid don't go for the throat is game management. Why push your players to go for a 3 or 4 goal margin when it's UCL the following Wednesday or Tuesday. Having to compete in 4 major tournaments means managing player health. I dont think Barca have been as interested in European cups as Madrid have been. They're content to win the league or a Copa.
