    The all new 2019 Jeep Cherokee is here and Jeep has kindly given me the top of the line Overland trim. In this video review I talk about the good, the bad, and the ugly of the facelifted Cherokee, and I also go in depth about the Active Drive system that might seem confusing to buyers looking for an all-wheel drive midsize crossover
    *CORRECTION* The Stelvio comes with an 8 speed transmission from ZF

At least I can drag them down to access them any time, but in the summer I have to switch to the cooled and so on. I also have no issue using my gloves to change anything. Did the 20019 change the screen so you have to use your finger? As for the transmission mine was tweeked over 4 times until I didn't get totally jerked around, but I am still not a fan of it. I have the 2019 Trailhawk Elite Edition plus a couple optional packages, so it has all the same luxury options as the Overland, plus the off-road suspension and mechanical locking rear diff. Best of all worlds:-) You're incorrect about the sport mode only changing the torque application. It also adjusts the transmission shift points higher and holds it in a lower gear longer, which does give it a more peppy feeling.

    You can program the driver heated seat and wheel to turn on with the car if it is below 41 degrees and it will do that when you remote start it with the Key Fob or the Uconnect app (if you have the 4c/4c with nave), and the vented seats can be set to auto turn on when it is 80 or above outside and it will do that with remote start to (again wither activated through the key fob or the app) Sport mode dose change the shift point and pattern in addition to the 4x4 split (I own a 2019 Trailhawk elite) The point of a Jeep is not to be an Alfa, it dose not have an electronic suspension, so there would be nothing to change.

Jeep has had this since 2016 When you auto start it reads the outside temp and sets the temp and seats according to the outside Temp; If it's 103 the AC and Vent seats come on and if its 36 The heat and heated seats come on, no programing needed. Great Review though.

    You can make the pricing argument about any vehicle. The top trim will approach pricing of bottom or mid trims from the next tier vehicle. If you compare apples to apples, the Cherokee Overland is $41k MSRP vs. GC Overland $50k MSRP.

    • @robc8468
      @robc8468 5 лет назад

      Better you just take $20,000 cash out in the back yard and burn it you will loose that much in 1st year depreciation on this thing. The G/C is a better bang for the buck and you could still have a G/C limited for $41k which is a superior vehicle with much better durability and resale value.

    • @DGAFDJ
      @DGAFDJ 5 лет назад

      @@robc8468 while normally I would agree, they really stepped up the Cherokee this year, it frankly looks like a 2/3 GC. With real off road capabilities and a very strong interior and engine now, the issue will be reliability. FCA has somewhat improved on that lately but they will really need this to be gremlin free especially the transmission. Time will tell. If it stays reliable you could see them resellable for the first 50k. I'm not holding my breath.

    Great review and nice to see the Overland with Napa as local dealers only have black black and black. I agree the price is closing into X3 territory..and that is a tough comparison. The 2018 19 X3 is gorgeous and handles perfectly much better suspension and engine and of course even fancier. I think there are incentives though so a $42k Jeep Cherokee overland probably out the door for 37 new. Question: Did you use the auto engine shutoff? That is how they get it to combined 25mpg. It's not bad on this car. Thanks!

      The turbo 4 is the better engine choice imo! They both have the same hp rating, but the turbo provides more torque. Ergo, it should be faster 0-60 and for passing.

    • @frankw204
      @frankw204 6 лет назад

      You're probably right. For me, 4 cylinders are a little suspect, being they run "hot" and are more vulnerable to engine damage. However, I believe the Turbo 4 is a proven Alpha Romeo engine, so a little more confidence. My other car is a 2016 Chr. 200 AWD C with 3.6L Pentastar V6 (295 hp) and it flies(9 speed including sport paddles). A few less HP with the 3.2L in the Jeep. I think they have retuned the transmission in the 2019 Jeep line. Despite that improvement, 9 speeds improve economy but perhaps at the expense of performance. I expect to place an order in the next couple of weeks hoping for a better deal by the time the car arrives at my dealer.

    • @jeffs6090
      @jeffs6090 6 лет назад

      Frank W - I have owned 4cy turbos in my last two cars (250ish hp), and have had zero issues other than being quick as hell with good economy. I feel that they are rather decent engines, and with the majority of the industry going that route for many of their vehicles, it would be a good choice for most basic car purchases.
      My Jeep dealer here in Indy has rather good deals going now. I'm looking right now at a loaded 19 Cherokee Overland that stickers at $41k (4cy turbo) and their discount amount is 10% before other incentives and such.

    I know it's the cool thing to do in reviews to bring up 4 year old problems on something that has been fixed for 3 or more years now. There is nothing wrong with the 9 speed transmission, it doesn't have problems shirting or being responsive that's all in the programming. I have a Chrysler 200s with the same Transmission (well its the 2wd version but still) It has the sport mode you like and when I pop it into that it is very responsive both the throttle and the shift, it downshifts instantly sometimes 3 or 4 gears in a snap (it also tightens the steering). So again your beef with the Cherokee isn't the transmission it's the lack of real sport mode.

Also I am not a fan of unproven tiny turbo 4 engines pulling around heavy utility vehicles how long do you think that engine will last out in the real world with hit or miss maintenance? Luckily a normal aspirated 3.2 v-6 is available I still think FCA will need another 1-2 years to fix the issues of the 9 speed and make it shift as nice as the 8 speed in my Laredo.

    Thanks for a great review. Some others gave nasty comments about the review, I will try to help without the snide remarks. It is true that you spent too much time on the workings of the 4x4. It IS important, but you need to condense it. And you tend to show yourself while driving and talking; you may consider doing that with a voice-over while showing MUCH more of the interior (things like the stereo systems, more on the 8 inch u connect, etc. etc. ). In short, much less of you and more images and video of the vehicle and talking about sound, tow etc. packages available as well as real world considerations of gas mileage, engine differences, warranty coverages, etc.. Again tho, pretty well done, thank you.

    I've owned Chrysler vehicles for close to 20 years (I worked there). The last time that I had a car that shifted properly was my 1999 Olds Alero. I currently own a 2015 200 Limited. Sometimes it properly downshifts when exiting a turn, but most of the time it can't be bothered. Push the pedal a bit and nothing happens. It shifts better than my previous Sebrings. But from the reviewers comments at 12:35, nothing has changed with FCA transmissions. Literally.

    I see TWO Sport Modes -- one the in the Select Terrain and another by sliding the Transmission to Left of Drive Gear and make the Cherokee Semi-Auto. To get everything that you have on the Overland in a Grand Cherokee, the price is $50K for Luxury II Package (to get the Dual Pane Sunroof) and Advanced Safety Package. The Grand Cherokee Summit that you showed is about $55K for V6. The Cherokee V6 is a V-config and not Inline. It is also 3.2L V6 and not the 3.6L V6 that come in many Fiat-Chrysler-Automobiles like the Grand Cherokee, 300, Durango, Charger, Challenger, and Wrangler.

    I would get the 6 cylinder. I don't like small underpowered engines with turbos added.

      Actual more torque with 2.0 and 1 less horsepower but I have the 3.2V6 it's nice but 0 to 60 .2 seconds quicker with 2.0

      I know this is an older post. We had a 2017 Cherokee Trailhawk with the 3.2 V-6. The housing is made of plastic for the oil filter/cooling and we lost 5 quarts of oil going down the road at about 70,000 miles. The 2.0 turbos have a conventional spin-on oil filter. In my opinion they are easier to deal with and no plastic housing in the neighborhood.

    Yesterday being Sunday, I took a ride to a couple of dealers on central L.I. N.Y. who's websites showed 2019 Jeep Overlands in stock. The rep. at the dealer in Patchogue was not fluent in what the incentive was, nor was he aware that there was a vehicle in the back of his lot. I searched and located it myself (looked like it had been through a dust storm and seagull attack). Next I drove to Smith Haven, where customers were sitting in a cramped showroom apparently waiting for their turn to see a salesperson. I caught the ear of an employee outside, asked where all the new stock was. The reply was "scattered in various locations up and down the main thoroughfare. "Stop inside, wait and see a sales person who could drive you to find the car." Last Sunday, in the freezing cold, I drove to the (closed on Sunday) Southampton dealership to search for their Overland which was nowhere to be found although appearing on their website. Spoke with representatives at Jeep, including an incentive specialist last week to find that they both stated they have nothing to do with the Jeep Corporation website. I asked them to "pass up the food chain" that the calculations involving incentives not only change from day to day, but don't sync up as one traverses from web page to web page. Furthermore, the corporate website seems to never be in sync with dealer websites. So the answer if buying a car is to visit a dealer. For me, that is going to a low pressure dealership like the loyal one I have been a customer to since the early 70's (Mullen Motors, Southold, N.Y.). All their vehicles are lined up "neatly" by brand and type with window stickers on each in a modest lot. That's one of the reasons why they have been voted #1 in the country buy their customers. Additionally, they provide the best service around - customer satisfaction first.

      FCA dealers have really dropped to low quality, it is the same all over. Jammed lots and hard to get a sales person. The incentives are terrific though. If the could somehow get their reliability to match the higher prices they would see Jeep print money. They are so close but cannot seem to get the basics to last for 100k. Even Ford figured that out.

    God review-but 3.6 litre is only in the Grand Cherokee. 3.2 in the Cherokee , which is still the most powerful engine-1 more hp than 2.o turbo! lol

      Noah C yes the 2.0 turbo does have more torque. And the 3.2 still has the higher tow rating.

      295 torque is more than my 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee at only 260 ft/lbs and 500lbs heavier~ likely a turbo going into GC too

    • @thevoiceofcod643
      @thevoiceofcod643 5 лет назад

      The turbo is not there for Horsepower -- its for torque. 2.0L Turbo is 295 lbs/ft Torque. The 3.2 is only 239 lbs/ft of torque. Torque is the acceleration factor on an engine LOL.

      I've noticed this as well. In 2017 the starting price for the Cherokee was around $24,000. In 2019 the starting price for the Cherokee is about $29,000 (In the Canadian market.) The prices keep going up with little explanation.

      Kyle Clement the prices went up because the base Sport model was discontinued, and the more well optioned Latitude became the base model. They're making the Cherokee a more upscale vehicle and marketing the Compass as more affordable.

    You've provided some inaccurate information. You really don't know enough about this automobile to be making an informative video. The V6 engine is a 3.2L. The towing capacity is 4500lbs with the V6 engine and the trailer tow package, 4000lbs with the 2.0L engine. The AD2 system provides an extra 1 inch of ground clearance and off road suspension.

  • @Prez3D
    @Prez3D 6 лет назад +7

    It's a SUV why the hell would you want a sport mode??? You want sport get a sport sedan. Good grief. 271HP isn't enough? The 2.0L turbo isn't worth it. No significant fuel efficiency benefits. The Grand Cherokee with the HEMI is well over $50k so the argument for an alternative to the KL is absolutely absurd, seriously you are ways off.

      You're an idiot. The turbo makes more torque and more importantly turbocharged engines lose less power with altitude increases than normally aspirated or supercharged engines. If you live in a sea level shithole, the V6 is fine. At 5000 feet, you're down 15%, 10000 ft. 30%.

    • @bikedoodme
      @bikedoodme 5 лет назад

      Plus the 2.0 turbo requires premium gas. No thanks. I’ll stick with the 3.2 v6 that this guy knows nothing about

    • @DGAFDJ
      @DGAFDJ 5 лет назад +2

      The 2 liter turbo makes 70 more ftlb of torque than the 3.2 V6 and is 160 lbs lighter. It gets 2 more miles to the gallon as well. The handling benefits of a lighter engine make a huge difference as I have driven both. As for 2.0t SUVs .... you don't follow the industry much. They dominate now and are amazing frankly. Audi, FCA, BMW all use them. Tows 4000 lbs and hey 29 mpg. That is worth the $500 upcharge. It sounds great at idle and crusing but a bit rough around town.
