- Welcome back to a other video by Joe's Retro World. If you are new to the channel be sure to subscribe and hit that like button to help the channel out. Today we are upgrading my Playstation 2 fat with a new Solid state drive from amazon. I also got the bracket and hard drive adapter needed for installing a Hard drive. Check out macho nachos pruduction channel on how to format your SSD. Everything in todays video is listed below available on amazon. This by far is the best way to soft your ps2 fat with great results from game play to game compatabilty. OPL has been around for almost 10 years with people updating the system and posting on PSN webpage for free. I should have done this years ago, but now that solid state drives are cheap and easily available. There is no reason not to pick one up and upgrade your ps2. Be sure to stop by my social meadia sits and chat, post pictures, video and everything related to retro games.

Lmao, one is legal now.
pretty legit man, thanks for making the video, I enjoyed it!
Thank you
ma man is from the future, bro is alrdy on 2023
good work bro
Lol, thank you
I don’t know what it is, but I like this dudes voice. I want audio books in this guys voice
Thank you
Could I borrow your time machine?
Boot the games from OPl instead and the ones give you black screen use OPL modes with triangle when select game.
I will try that, thanks
Nice build up!!
Thanks Augi
You could use over 2tb now. 128 gb wont even hold 100 games
This is a great mod for the old fat PS2's. If it wasn't for the fact that the SSD was so cheap, I'd say just get a mechanical drive (WinHIIP will easily support 1TB in 48-bit mode) - you're certainly not going to get a speed benefit out of the SSD, so buying a premium brand SSD is just wasting your money.
Also, for better game compatibility, I totally recommend OPL - I was finally able to load games that I just couldn't get to work with HDL, thanks to OPL's configuration options. Just make sure you copy the latest version and configure it in FMCB.
Ok, I will go back and try different settings and record doing it for a later video. I was thinking about trying a regular Harddrive but found this one and just said "why not try this one". I am just learning about all of this. People like you giving great advice helps me correct or enhance what I am doing. So thanks for the advice.
@@JoeRetroWorld No problem man! Be sure to check out OPL’s compatibility guide - some games require specific modes to work. For example, some games require intro videos to be skipped so that they can load properly in OPL - thankfully their loading options handle this. Have fun experimenting!
@@jcchaconjr thanks
SSDs are fine. Silent, cheap, and no overheating too!
SSD's aren't a waste of money. For one, they're far more reliable & durable. Two, they are silent. Three, they run cooler and they aren't that expensive.
I ordered that GameStar SATA PS2 Adapter from Amazon and had problems with compatibility a lot. Did you ever get those Jak games to work? A lot of games I tried would not boot using OPL at all. I had to go back to using the original PS2 IDE Network Adapter
So far most games work. None of the Jak games worked. The adapter works so far good for me. I do have to push the SSD in all the way for it to read to drive. Plus I cleaned the port on the ps2 with a toothbrush.
Disable the VMC and you will be good to go
Aliexpress probably charges less and it all came from the china anyways
Nice video, thanks. I’ve recently got all the parts to do this, but do you need to format the SSD in a specific way before you start?
Yes, I should have the link to it in the description. Let me check.
Oh yes, that’s great thanks.
@@rosstee I found the updated link for the software called Win Hiip.

Wish I knew about this before. My HDD died so fast. SSD for my wii U too.
What happened to your Harddrive's?
@JoeRetroWorld I had a moded ps2 with hhd games start to disappear. I tried some tutorials, but games wouldn't come back, and OPL started to boot very slow. I bought a crt and was excited but haven't used wii in a while. I thought it was a video compatibility issue, then reconnected it back to my lgc177, and games would load anymore. It was a cheap 40 dollar hhd, but from what I have read, SSD is better.
@JoeRetroWorld Happened after 2 years of random inconsistent playing, but a lot of rests probably wore out the drives.
i have done that added games on harddrive on my ps2 i have 44 games
Nice
It crazy how many games work. I keep loading more and more. What's your favorite game?
I had a clone version called MX4SIO I experienced freezing all the time. When you use the official one did you experience any freezing?
It sucked, I tried different sd cards. Different game roms, nothing helped. It finally just stopped working. I want to try a cheap clone from Amazon but kind of don't want to waist money.
@@JoeRetroWorldDamn I was hoping the official one would have made a difference. I can tell you that the knock off clones aren’t great. I experienced freezing not even an hour into gameplay
I built my own MX4SIO and it works fine. I've played Crash Nitro Kart, Crash Twinsanity, Metal Slug Anthology and Jak 1.
Ssd aren cheap, is it worth ssd v hdd? I heard the old tech cant take advantage of the ssd
I have never used a had, I know they are still great to use. The only downside is noise, so buy a 2 tb for $50 and use the latest opl and have a great time. I did this just to make it silent an nothing else.
it’s nice but some games stutter too much even with SSD, prince of Persia 3 and metal gear solid 3 ISO and a few others frames drop too much making it unplayable
So true, it's not perfect.
So doing it this way what do you do about emulators or do you not need them with this setup and that big piece you screwed in back of ps2 is that something you buy I would love to do this
So you buy the free mcboot memory card from Amazon. Then you buy the ss Harddrive from Amazon. I have all the links in the description of what you need to buy. This is a very easy to do. I explain it in the video.
The free mcboot has some emulators built in the card. They let play some systems like super Nintendo and some others. Not to sure on how. I only use it for playing ps2 games off the hardrive and usb stick using OPL and HD Loader. There are videos showing what the free mcboot can do here is a great one
ruclips.net/video/YVIMiD3xmwE/видео.html
MC2SIO isnt from the original creator. It's a MX4SIO clone made by helder.
His website is closed now, and the links don't work. I need to get his version of opl.
@@JoeRetroWorld I think you're confusing creators of multiple different projects.
@@vermilionpt0 I am talking about the MC2SIO developer. All the links on different videos like the one Macho Nacho and other creators video's.
2023?? FORGET THE PS2 STUFF-Tell us the lotto numbers!!

I got the jak games to work you just have to disable VMC in the settings
Nice, thank you.
Hi, what settings do i need to use to format my ssd, so the ps2 can read it, or is it all automatic ? Do you need ESR to patch the games for the SSD ?
@@ZanikMuts I linked a video showing where to get the free software to format and add games. Let me go look for it.

Where must I go in the world for it to be 2023?
Do you watch games that get stuck and interrupted or not?
This is a old video, what are you angry about? If you are asking if any games stop working or don't work at all. Then , yes. This method still has issues, I still enjoy it. Now, you can use a bigger ssd with expat format. Allowing you to upload games easier now and formating the ssd.
@@JoeRetroWorld I mean, are the cinematic scenes cut off if I use STAT or not?
@user-sl6jt7th1r it is a little better but some games still have cut scene interruption.
your software is outdated
Ok, can you provide a link to update it for me and the rest of the world?
