I have been to Little Bighorn, it is more hilly and not made of legos. It is a quite sobering place to visit. Unlike many battlefields, it is actually little different than it was 150 years ago. You can really get a feel for it
I believe that there were actually two survivors of the battle. Frank Finkel was shot early in the battle, & he rode off to get reinforcements & to get his own wound fixed. The other was Myles Comanche who was shot seven times. He was near dead when reinforcements picked him & took care of him.
Custer splits his command and all of the men fighting directly under him are killed but there are more under Reno and Benteen who are engaged on another part of the battlefield and manage to hold their position. One additional company tries to get through to Custer on Last Stand Hill but see that there are just too many natives and have to withdraw. An amateur historian did a great multipart documentary on the 7th cavalry and the battle. ruclips.net/video/fkVla_9ajak/видео.html
Dwarven, you point out there were 2 survivors, but youre wrong. Benteen and Reno's command, and that of the pack train, had hundreds of survivors, about 400-450. From Custer's detachment, all of the men were killed, and Frank Finkel is an unconfirmed survivor, likely a myth. You mention that Myles Comanche was shot but survived, you fail to mention that he was a HORSE.
I really like this. Most battle animations are just people shooting at each other, but this one is astonishing. Something new every moment. Filled with action. Keep it up.
Many of the Natives in this battle were actually "better" armed than the US soldiers. They had a lot of lever action winchesters and henrys while the 7th cavalry had single shot breach loading springfield rifles (which ARE more accurate but, slower reload) The Natives had everything from traditional weapons to black powder muskets to the most advanced rifles of the time. a large variety of weapons.
But I thought they lost because they couldn't compete with western guns. Minus tricks like small pox blankets. Which is the most evil . That's Hillary Clinton levels of evil.
+Random Thoughts that is still true overall, they COULDN'T compete with European weapons. Even if they acquired them through trade they didn't have the resources for constant replenishing of ammunition. But, in this particular battle they had more advanced weapons. Custer had the option to bring Gatling Guns on this campaign and he was like "nah, I won't need them". Often times when the US lost battles to natives it was because they underestimated them. A guy named Fetterman said he could conquer the whole Sioux nation with 80 good men. Him and his 80 men were massacred by a group of Lakota led by Crazy Horse.
@@thatN7guy982 no he said you cant use em for fighting Indians in that terrain. Cannons have been used against camps but the men operating the cannons would get picked off by indian marksmen or flanked. He needed to be mobile like him taking no supply wagons etc

There’s quite a few things he did get wrong though, for one Custer was dressed in all buck skins that day and usually was. Also, we don’t know for 100% certain how he died. Obviously he died that day, but there’s dozens of different accounts given by the Sioux warriors who were there. Many different Sioux claimed they killed him and a few said they witnessed Custer shoot himself as they closed in on him and the few remaining Calvary men. A few other sioux said he fled on horseback and was shot off his horse and others say he got away. You should read the book ‘Son of the Morning Star’ by Evan S. Connell if you’re interested.
While White Cow Bull and oral history do talk about a soldier in a buckskin coat shot at the river, it's very unlikely that soldier was Custer. It could have been any of the other officers since many were dressed similarly to Custer. If Custer was wounded at the river, he likely would have been taken to Calhoun Hill since it's a safer and way less exposed position than Last Stand Hill. Also, Indian accounts say that the soldiers who rode down to the river were on grey horses (undoubtedly Company E), which means if an officer was wounded or killed at the river, it more likely would have been 1st Lieutenant Algernon Smith or 2nd Lieutenant James Sturgis. Despite that, this is a pretty cool video.
The losses of the Sioux were only about 20 to 30 warriors, but they paid a dear price for the victory, one they never recovered from. Soon after, US forces would roll over them and render the Sioux nation a non-player.
@@JaredOtto No, D.C. sent more men and eventually raided and destroyed most of the Sioux encampments. Some fled to Canada but the majority stayed behind and slowly saw neighboring tribes pressured by the Federals turn on them. Eventually, most were either killed, died from starvation/disease or were rounded up and forced onto Indian reservations.
