  • Malbork Castle is located in the north of Poland within an hour’s drive of Gdańsk. The castle is on the east bank of the River Nogat. It is the most complete and elaborate example of a medieval Gothic brick-built castle complex in the characteristic and unique style of the Teutonic Order.
Malbork Castle was built from around 1278 by the invading Teutonic Knights. The castle was the headquarters of the Order of Teutonic Knights from 1309 to 1457. Major expansion of the Middle Castle took place between 1320-1380. It was then that the Palace of the Grand Master, the Great Refectory, the wing for guests and the Commander’s Chamber were built.
Malbork Castle later fell into decay, but was meticulously restored in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
In 1961, the Castle Museum (Muzeum Zamkowe) was founded and in 1965 an amber exhibition was opened.
