In Japanese mythology Nekomatas are evil yokais that orchestrate careful plans some taking 50 years to come to fruition. So yeah the Nekomata is biding her time.
This really reminded me of Ash (Subaru) vs Paul (Okayu) in diamond and Pearl lol (without Okayu being mean to her Pokémon), Subaru got destroyed the first time she went against Okayu and when it came to to the final battle using Pokémon she likes, she ended up winning 2/3 battles against Okayu Really fun seeing Subaru get so much better and impressing Okayu, was really nice to watch and the battle was pretty funny lol
In case anyone is wondering, Stealth Rock does ~12.5% of a Pokemon's max health. If the pokemon is weak to Rock, it becomes 25% (or 50% for 4x weakness) which is why Staraptor lost half its health switching in twice.
@@Christer2222 rapid spin becomes a pretty priority move to have as it'll also get rid of things like web, spikes, and toxic spikes as well. Some players give it to a pokemon with points into speed so they can make sure it's used before the thing is KO'd. Others, like myself, always gave it to my physically defensive Sandslash. These days, it can also increase the speed of the user, so I'm sure that's made it more useful. Other times players will use defog. The downside with that is that it'll clear the entire field of entry hazards, including any of your own. But it helps if you don't have a good rapid spinner to have on your team. I've seen some people with two rapid spinners in the lower tiers.
@@Christer2222 Yes, absolutely. Entry hazards are OP in 6v6 singles to the point where nearly every team has a hazard setter or two and a defogger/rapid spinner. Sometimes you'll even see Heavy-Duty Boots on 4x weaknesses like Moltres/Articuno/Volcorona or pivoters like Slowbro/Clefable. Shedinja also likes Heavy-Duty Boots so it doesn't get KO'd on switch in.
Between this and their Mario Kart streams, 2021 is definitely the year of Subaru and Okayu's friendship. It's a rare sight to see Okayu this giddy, and hearing her talk about how much she enjoyed playing Pokemon with Subaru just seals the deal.

I've seen all the greatest battles from the anime: Ash vs. Gary in Johto, Ash vs. Paul in Sinnoh, Ash vs. Alain in Kalos, Ash vs. Kukui in Alola, but this... this had me on the edge of my seat like none of those did. I really didn't see a way for Subaru to win. I mean, 4 Pokemon weak to electric and really no counter for a Gastrodon? But somehow she did it, in a true protagonist fashion at that. So proud of Shuba, from novice trainer to Pokemon Master!

Greninja was supposed to win that and still it lost. If Ash won that he would've became Kalos champion and became Alola champion at the same time and if Ash was like Bardock and said "This will change EVERYTHING!" while using the full power/giant water shuriken he definitely would've won
Subaru has definitely improved her battle stats and switch-in reads. Wanting to set up Sneaky Pebbles at the start (had to come later as a sac move) and the read to send out Bibi for the Staraptor switch was great. Okayu is still ahead in that regard though. Oyumaru coming in clutch for Subaru was definitely some anime plot line shiz and a fitting end to the battle. 😅👌🏾

Well done by Subaru to take the win there, I thought it was hopeless when I saw the set Okayu had on her gastrodon. That thing had a positive or winning matchup against every one of Subaru's pokemon, except maybe the bibarel. If Okayu had recover on gastrodon and had been more careful about not letting its HP get low it might have taken Subaru's whole team.
[SPOILER] Stealth Rock really came in clutch here. Other chip damage aside, if not for Stealth Rock, Magnezone's Sturdy would have kicked in and likely lost Subaru the match. It really came down to that tiny bit of chip damage.
@@Ajoura Garchomp is absolutely not double resistant to steel, and Magnezone has a monstrous special attack stat. Flash cannon or something could have killed it.
Even though Okayu gave her the Gible and let her know her entire team prior to the battle, I’m still impressed by Subaru’s determination and effort to do a thorough research to make this battle more interesting. Though I still want to see whether she could still get the same result without any studying if Okayu had used a completely different team.
Holy hell! This ended up being a really hype match and SUBARU PULLED OFF THE DUB!!! Stealth Rock was a fantastic choice that ended up winning her the match in the end.
I have no shame in admitting I popped off multiple times with Subaru's plays. Between Stealth Rocks and Nishiki's DD, she really worked and studied hard for this. Even some good reads, like calling the Staraptor switch and going into Luxray the same turn. A real unique feeling, this whole experience is. I'm so proud of our protagonist duck. This arc of the anime was one of my top favorites by far.
If only Ace was not OHKO-ed first turn by Charem, Subaru might win the first round (it's so close), but just like a protagonist she win it in the round next, making the narrative somewhat even better
Oyumaru came in for the clutch. That was a really close and instense battle. I think Subaru would have more of a chance against Gastrodon if she threw out her Gyarados since it's immune to ground moves.
Okayu really misplayed at the end there. Instead of doing a mirror match, she should have swapped out and saved Azumarill for Garchomp which could sweep her last two mons.

Yeah, Stealth Rock is THE entry hazard to have. Those damage benefits are good enough to influence a battle completely if you don't have RS or Defog.

I absolutely empathize with Subaru having trouble playing and talking at the same time. My speech slows down to a stuttering, word-searching crawl when I'm having to multi-task on ANYTHING. It's especially bad if I'm needing to strategize or something else requiring anything more than backburner brain power.
