Gotham Steel Pasta Pot Review: Does This Straining Pot Work?
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 21 июл 2024
- Gotham Steel Pasta Pot allows you to strain right from the pot thanks to its built-in strainer and interlocking handles. I put it to the test to see if it lives up to the advertising hype.
You can also see a brief comparison vs the Red Copper Pan to see how well both of them clean up a sticky, dried sauce.

I love Bailey making cameo in so many of the reviews.
I do too; she (and Daisy) are good dogs! BTW, James, DON'T EVER give melted cheese to Bailey/Daisy; it gives doggies diarrhea from hell!
You forgot smashing the lid with a sledgehammer
At least you wont harvey dent it
This guy is great, he even saves the bottles from every beer he's ever drank, fantastic!
trans355am probably not every bottle but maybe 1 from each different type/brand (don't know the proper name) of beer he's drank.
Cheddar is high in oil, so that's why it won't stick while melting/melted. :)
marriannerudy fat, but not oil
If you cook it long enough to evaporate *all* the moisture.. then it will stick like a mother..
I have one of those cookpots and I swear by mine; I can cook the effing WORLD in that thing! (not literally) I can throw my recommendation behind yours, James!
That's a good size pot, they definitely should've made the handles cool touch. That pizza ya'll had looked amazing. Hope you had a great Fathers Day. Thanks for the review😃
Christy's Cooking Channel ji
Hey! I finally have one of the products you reviewed! My wife's grandma bought this for us last Christmas. We don't cook much, basically just use to make spaghetti, but I like it a lot! Always easy to clean off, the noodles just wipe off with no effort.
Stumbled across this channel by chance and I really enjoyed it! Will definitely be binging your other videos. Kisses for Bailey!
HI Candice, and I'm glad you enjoy my videos! I hope to hear from you again soon.
Great review, looking forward to the follow-up review.
I have never seen that pot! I think I need to pay a visit to Bed Bath and Beyond. Lol I think they should add a little Sugru to their handle design. :) Great review! Hope you had a great Father's Day!
I got mine about a year ago. I'm definitely a fan. The handles definitely don't stay cool. At all.
And if you make things that get a bit mucky, the holes can get blocked. I boiled potatoes with spinach and the spinach blocked up the strainer holes
Awesome video review was considering purchasing this but the handles not staying very cool kinda throwing it off for me.
In this Italian’s opinion, a separate pasta pot is unnecessary. Just get one of the colanders that has the little feet on the bottom - you can place it in the sink and pour your pasta right in. I am particularly fond of my Oxo Good Grips model. No yucky sink germs on your pasta, no burning yourself with boiling water while you’re trying to juggle a bunch of things in your hands. Plus, you can use your colander for other tasks, like rinsing fruits or vegetables. Even if I think the concept of this item is silly, your reviews are great. You must have spent a ton of money in Bed Bath and Beyond by now. 😁
I have a strainer that has handles so it rests across the sink. Love it :)
Where do you get these magical bb and b coupons?
is it the same company making quite almost everything 'copper-ified' ? great review as always, thanks.
Would kind of like to see how it stacks up to the Bialetti pasta pot that's been around for years. I would prefer having a metal lid, since glass is so fragile.
Will it work on an Induction cook surface?
I have some of these pots and pans and I just use a nylon bristle brush and it can take a good scrub just fine.
A most helpful tool to get leftover food items out of a non-stick pot is a silicone spatula. It is used in conjunction with hot water and a little dish detergent. This works much better than wooden spoons because of the large 'windshield wiper' effect. You can use sufficient pressure on the spatula if needed to scrub the sides and bottom of pots without damaging the non-stick surface. Using a sponge to remove food is a no-no even if you can tolerate the smell of rotting food particles trapped in the sponge. Sponges are meant to be used as the final cleaning or scrubbing tool, not the initial leftover food remover. And they should be microwaved weekly while fairly wet for 1 1/2 - 2 minutes (depending on wattage of oven) to kill breeding bacteria that will eventually make themselves at home in any dish sponge that constantly provides warmth, moisture, and food.
I had a cheap aluminum straining pasta pot years ago, but donated it to the local thrift store, because a) the lid had to be held in place while draining the pot, and b) because having the straining holes in the top of the lid made it unusable for dishes which had to be simmered covered (f.ex. a stew or chili). This Gotham Steel version with the straining holes in the side of the lid could still be used to simmer dishes covered, by just turning the lid so that neither set of draining holes was next to a pour spout. I would ideally like to heft a display model of this in a store before purchasing it, but I've saved it to my Amazon wish list anyway, because there seems to be a lot to like about the design of this pot.
what about the glass covers durability?
Is it a bad idea to put water in the pot/pan and let it “soak” with the bits of food in there? I find it always easier to clean after bits of food have soaked in the water for a while.
I have some red copper products, I use metal spatulas on them and haven't scratched any of them. Way better than the old Teflon and the white inside skillets. The gotham grill works well for burgers but is not as easy to clean as advertised.
Maybe on an induction burner the handles would have stayed cool to the touch, but you never said if it was induction compatible.
great vid. how many more copper things are there?? lol. cant wait for the next vid. happy fathers day.
How do you make Popcorn in it?
Great review.
I use a Bialetti Pasta Pot. It has a locking lid with a built in strainer and the the handles don't get hot.
This is why I read comments - for comments like this. Thanks for the recommendation!
Love your reviews! I want to know if the water ran over your hand when draining the potatoes? Last...all that grease and food going down that drain is going to cause you to have to call in a plumber! LOL!!
Great review! Did Bailey get the cheese in the end?
Lang Vu no very unhealthy he would've prob been constipated from it.
I didn't understand what you used for the sauce. Tuna and ?
cream of chicken soup
It's a few ingredients shy of your standard tuna noodle casserole recipe. I'm going to guess it's his own concoction.
I've been using a Gotham steel square pan to death and clean it with a nylon brush and it's be staying amazingly nonstick.
You should keep some of the pasta water back and pour it into the sauce
The ring insert seems to cause the boiling water to come up toward the handles, so perhaps it is good that the handles aren't cool to the touch. The nonstick surface is short-lived & all you're left with is a pot with a poorly-designed straining function.
Great for popcorn as well.
Love mine.
Seems to be alright. Thanks bra!
Did you really throw that melted cheese? Nothing was wrong with it....
Camps2630 if you let it cool off I think that it becomes a cheese crisp and it’s delicious
Tbf, fried cheese isn’t very healthy so I guess he didn’t think it was worth?
Patience is the best way to extend the life of nonstick. Just let them soak in soap and warm water for an hour before you clean them. Little to no scrubbing ever required. 👍👌✌
Hey James,
Happy belated Father's Day!
What are the handles made out of? It looks like a pretty good product except that the handles get hot. No bueno
It's a pot on a stovetop.... And have you never heard of oven mitts? Or any kind of product that lets you touch hot surfaces?
Is this pan oven safe?
Copper would be fine in the oven (plenty of copper ovenware out there), but I wouldn't put a pot in the oven unless it's stainless steel or cast iron.
I have the gotham pan but don't think I'm sold on the pot. Not very different from average pot.
Your dog is super cute.
If you have a gas stove, it's very unlikely that shorter handles like that will ever stay cool. The cool touch "technology" is just a fancy way of saying it's riveted on the pot in a way that it wont transfer heat from the pot to the handle. However with a gas stove there is a ton of heat going up the sides of the pot from the flame. I'm betting if you use it on an electric or an induction stove the handles would stay cool.
I absolutely loved my gas stove, but hot handles was always one of the downfalls. I have an electric stove now and my handles all stay decently cool.
I like this pot but the pans are not non stick and the ovenware has a bad fume in the oven
Anybody here after seeing his six-year review update LOL
I have a set of pots where each set has a lid with these holes. The pots are over 20 years old. So This isn't new
Very true. I think the locking handles and "Ti-Cerama" nonstick surface are supposed to be the innovative features. That's what they tell us at least. :-)
But yours probably doesn't have a locking lid. You have to hold your lid manually (or with a towel, I suppose).
*Not Induction Compatible*
An Amazon seller told me this pot is conduction compatible. It is not. My induction burners would not recognize the 5-quart pot. Amazon allowed me to return it.
My burners will immediately recognize the Gotham Steel 9.5 deep square pan. Love the pan.
Some Gotham Steel pans are induction compatible, some are not. No idea why.
hi there have you done like top 5 fav buys and top 5 flops
Actually my next video is my 100th video, where I will be looking back at some of the best and worst moments.
Very cool video. I have a tripod led flood light, may I have the pleasure of inviting you to do a test?I also @you on TWITTER,and the product picture was attached.
Tuna and Cream of chicken? Yuck. 😎
Goes well with the pot
Newer subscriber. I don’t ordinarily buy this stuff but I really enjoy your vids. Your very thorough. Also the viewer can sense your objectivity. I don’t feel your like Billy Mays et All. Have you done the product that is supposed to seal the gutters and the guy sealed a screen and floated it in water. Called flex steel I believe ????
BTW Bailey is awesome!!!
i’m just watching this because wen i grow up i need to bye things
Five Quarts? That's a great size.
not bad
The pot on the infomercial is 4qt, the one you buy at Bed Bath & Beyond is 5qt, that's why the infomercial one is cheaper, don't be fooled.
That cheese went to waste. Many tears were shed today.
ok not bad
Not metal tongs wtf
Kool
Two words these t.v. companies love... "gotham" and "copper"
ANY NON STICK PAN WILL WIPE OUT WITH A PAPER TOWEL AS LONG AS ITS STILL WARM. IF GOTHAM OR RED COPPERS SCRATCH USING METAL THEN THERE'S NO POINT IN BUYING THEM. THE COMMERCIAL SHOWS YOU CAN BEAT SCRAMBLED EGGS WITH A POWER BEATER AND NOT SCRATCH THEM.
Hey Greg! All of the commercials for these products CLAIM they won't scratch, but I've seen quite a few of these new nonstick pans scratch quite easily, so I try to err on the side of caution by not using metal in them.
Chill on the caps lock. God damn.
Your supposed to put the pasta in when there is a rolling boil not start with them in there and put some olive oil that's why all that pasta stuck to bottom
You're*
And you don't need olive oil to stop it from sticking, that's a myth. The olive oil does impart a little bit of flavor though. However, you are correct that putting them in when the water is boiling is the right way. I would add that you should stir your pasta for about 15 second after it goes in to ensure it doesn't stick.
Key thing to remember is that in commercial kitchens, where they have pasta baskets, they're constantly shaking the baskets - to produce the same effect that stirring the pasta has.
Does no one read how to season new pots and pans before use....
Never use metal utensils on non stick pans. One scratch and its all downhill from there.
Jag Girl he showed that in the 1st review of the fry pan
To answer your first question that you made a statement - no, they don't read. Just like many people read instruction manuals and wonder why their dresser looks all shitty.

Why are you so afraid with a sponge? It's a sponge lol not an abrasive surface
Eddie Eldridge sponges are bacteria breeding centers. They are considered the filthiest item in a home. Unless you soak your sponge in bleach after every use, and then rinse it thoroughly, they will never be a good choice.
@@TheWifeRottenRomance You didn't answer the question, you just gave irrelevant information. He said he was being careful with the sponge because he didn't want to damage the surface. Makes no sense since sponges are soft so that they can be used on multiple services.
Also, a little soap and microwaving the sponge also works to disinfect your sponges.
#TheMoreYouKnow
@@Dyanosis 🤨you seem to think abrasion is the only reason to avoid a sponge. It’s not. If you want to go to extra effort solely for the purpose of hopefully eliminating the bacteria, you do you. Ooooor, you could just use something else and not worry about abrasion OR bacteria. You do you, but that doesn’t make it a great idea. 🤷♀️
@@Dyanosis also? Absolutely answered the question. In the video he says “usually don’t use them here.” First, he said “the soft side” because yes, the green side is abrasive, which is why I ignored *that* part of OP’s comment. It’s incorrect, firstly, and secondly the abrasion wasn’t given as the reason for not using sponges.
“Why are you so afraid with a sponge” - because it’s a breeding ground of bacteria. A lot of us choose to avoid sponges because the extra work involved in killing the bacteria isn’t worth it when there are better options.
Seems pretty straightforward to me, but I’m happy to clarify it for you. 🤷♀️
Hey can you risk it and hit it with a freakin hammer? Like the commercials? Plzzzzzz
The pot is $20, go do it yourself.
The pan does nor cook evenly
I will not buy another Gotham product it took 6 weeks to get it I W was promised a skillet with my order and didn't receive it the paint is coming of the inside only used it twice it's false advertising and to send it back will cost more than what you paid for it
Awesome review buddy..... Hi Bailey can i come and have hugs and kisses from you??? Pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee lol
Bailey you are so cute
No...not the good cheese...melted cheese is the best u monster
What is passta? It’s pronounced Pas ta
Let me tell you why I’m not finishing your video. The company says you can use a blender in the bottom of this pan. That would have been the test.
Angie Cates Why would he need to test that when he already knows for certain that will scratch it? He said right off that it fails that test, then tested it for other qualities.
You do realize that he wants to keep these products, right? And most people, like this RUclipsr, spend their own money to give people like you an idea of how the product works. Why would he ruin something that he'd probably end up liking and wanting to actually use?
Where. Is. The. Sense. In. That?
Come on wasting so much water
You're right, he only has so much he's ever going to get and it's all being wasted on not a whole lot. What a shame.
