Finally some recognition for this game. It's so good and so fun, with its own very unique design and mechanics that retain the classical deck builder roguelike feel while offering new spins on them.
23:43 oh man watching that turn killed me inside. Issue order + Piranha would have killed the middle guy who had 29 hp, then Ammo and double shot would let you deal 14 to the guy in the back. Instead you used double shot and piranha on the same guy leaving the last guy at full hp which ended up getting you hit for 31 damage the next turn. But hey, at least you didn't die.
I have been really enjoying this game - the main hook is the absolutely insane amount of content. It's basically as if you had multiple slay the spire's within the same game and there's quite a lot of other game modes and things to unlock. It does start a bit slow until you do unlock your first few things, but it only speeds up from there!

I've played it for countless hours on my phone and I have a solid opinion. It's a very good game, but it has flaws that greatly lower its rating in my opinion. It relies on grinding to the limit. The characters are extremely unbalanced and some can't do much in later realms. The cards are very poorly designed and over time you will notice that most of them are absolutely useless. At the same time, you cannot skip adding a card to the deck. Some enemies rely on horribly nasty RNG, and some bosses have virtually no chance of being defeated with specific characters. It's the kind of game where you either have a great approach and get the cards and relics you need, or you restart because there's no point in continuing it.
i've only played on PC and I've not really felt this at all; some characters are better than others and there is more RNG than in other card games (stuff like 50% chance to do X), but it's never impossible and the big fights never take insane luck unless you had a bad run. Even then, there's not straight up better characters, usually they just have a good starting deck or a more consistent playstyle, it's not just upgrades. There's even skins you get for every character for beating lategame content, so it's 100% doable.
Looks like you missing something in deck design and economics of this game, cuz I don't remember ANY useless cards. The only thing I hate in this game (except for grind which is * somehow * avoidable) is randomness - sometimes all ammo in your deck just stuck in one hand and then you are dead. And random effects, which you don't really want to rely on
You can actually (effectively) skip adding cards by picking relics/treasures instead(which either prove useful, can be sold for lots of money, or simply be thrown away--but hey, better than forced bloat). Even if they don't appear immediately, rerolling until you get a treasure is usually still worth the net gold gain, or the card prevention(thus cheaper than culling them later). When you combine this essentially pre-emptive culling discount, cheap & abundant card culling(compared to other games, also multiple times per shop), and loads of money from selling unneeded treasures, this game actually has one of the strongest deck thinning out there, with 5-card "decks" being quite often among pros Granted, this trick is rather obscure and counter-intuitive, so while saying "this game lacks deck culling" can be dismissed as "beginner's myth", IMO it's the game's fault for 1) placing the reroll button in the corner, not underneath card options like other games' skip button 2) not having a straightforward skip button(preferably with small incentive to guide newbies like Monster Train, but not too big that the treasure trick is still more profitable and feels smart)
I had so fun with this game on phone for like one or two years after StS (obviously I craved StS likes during that time) I'm so glad you're playing this as lately I've been enjoying your videos a lot! (Try to pay attention to quest bubbles when because they let you progress your quests). Also, Injury can be real good, but you need to unlock certain cards and relics. It also work better in the second character iirc. It's literally poison from StS, the problem is you need to consider they can remove the debuff with a buff, or you with another debuff. And remember to sell Used relics! Btw I've been looking in your channel but seems you either haven't uploaded, or haven't played Griftlands, which is one of the best roguelike deckbuilders out there. It may not be for everyone since each run can vary between 1-2 hours or even more when you're starting to understand the game, but I wouldn't mind watching a video with pieces of the run instead of the whole thing, if it would mean you playing it. (Editing after listening you talk about roguelike deckbuilders getting ovetcomplicated and mentioning 2 decks gives me vibes that you already played Griftlands and didn't liked it but oh well haha)

Monster Train, Slay the Spire, and INSCRYPTION will always be the kings of Deckbuilder. If you want a top 5, I would add Ratropolis and One Step from Eden.
Never been able to get into the mobile version of the game but I can still give this a lot of credit. It's a ton of fun and I would definitely be up to buying the port with everything unlocked

funny thing to note that ammo regen is the base charather passive.. each charather has there own max ammo and starting cards but they all desire diffrent cards (based on there passives)
After buying it as an “I’m poor, so let’s try this instead” for Spire, and winding up playing it for years, to this day, let me just say, Me at 0:20: AAAAAAAAAAAA HE’S PLAYING PIRATES!
oh hey I've almost 100% completed this game (outside of the optional challenge achievements). It's pretty great, a lot of fun stuff but some things are a bit annoying to deal with.
I have been playing Pirate Outlaws on mobile for a while. It is definitely a lot of fun, though some aspects feel shallow. I would definitely recommend though! I think mobile is much cheaper than Steam, even factoring in in-game purchases.
As I keep on watching, I am more and more impressed by how they managed to get a plethora of effects, whilst keeping them simple and easy to understand. I guess starting out as a mobile game helped.
i played the phone version a bit, I think its decent. I havent gotten far, some cards feel like trash and it feels difficult to beat final boss unless i have perfect setup and no trash cards. I think card gaurdians is a more simple balanced and faster paced game for mobile, more fun.
I wonder if you've ever played Fights in Tight Spaces. Knowing you, you may of. I personally liked it, since it was fun trying to figure out how to position my fighter with my cards. Pretty tough sometimes though. Doesn't really have unlocks though, or meta stuff, so could get stale after a bit.
I've been playing this game for a while now, have unlocked a good amount but think the gunner is still one of my favs. If you don't like complex deck builders, stay away from Indies Lies...
@@OlexaYT This. It’s more of a Magic the Gathering style problem and less of Slay the Spire refreshing you to max mana every turn. Creates different kinds of deckbuilding scenarios. You can stack more melee cards to have overall lower ammo cost, you can take more ammo reload cards if your deck is hungry on ammo, or whatever combination in between. It does suck if you draw a hand full of ammo when you don’t need any, but that’s the RNG behind games with a resource that goes into your deck like MTG.
21:48 Pincer, you lose a card, and basically do a scaling DoT? 6 + 5 + 4 + 3 + 2 + 1. Eventually 21 damage, 11 pretty early on. Damage-wise not terrible but not amazing compared to your average shots. The discard is a big downside, I can't see that working out.
I hope you'll also play Wildfrost. And by play I mean make a series of. You played the demo on the channel, and it's actually coming out soon... atleast that's what the steam page says.

3 years yup. The PC port has all of the content unlocked through achievements and there’s no microtransactions.

I have the same exact review. I played a lot of the game about 2 years ago. And then stopped due to the horrible grind.
