Remember that movie, must have been 10 years or something like that! Every time I see that background with all the models from Battlestar Galactica (including the helmet) and Buck Rogers I am seeing the dreams of my youth! You guys are dream makers, whole generations have your work as part of their imagination! It is a joy to watch this stuff, thanks for continuing to share the legacy and memories.
Speaking of which ... if you can find any early images of the Bowerhouse 'REFINERY' from Ridley's 'ALIEN' (1979) -- the underside was loaded to the gills with STAR WARS, GALACTICA and of course, tons of Tamiya models. (I was a Film Booker for 20th Century-Fox at the time and had the Exhibitor's Teaser Pics from the first few weeks of principle and model unit stuff) By the by ------- anyone wanna do a stand-alone ALIEN film with me ..? I got a wicked idea'r been bouncing on my brainpan for years and it's wayyyyy coooool. D.A.
This team worked miracles on such a slender budget compared to the bigger films of the day, and the creativity in their design really shows. Love the still towards the end of Morgan Woodward, the unmasked Cayman. He only passed away in 2019, after a very career. Also, the gun being held by the guy in the gas mask (evidently a Coors enthusiast) looks like an upside down Viper fighter model from "Battlestar Galactica" lol.
Nice, so many great models. I’ve always been curious about that practical lighting effect in the walls of the planet Akir set, it looks like flickering rainbow colours and is very pretty.
James Cameron talked about that first short film of his. He got the money from a Consortium of dentists who wanted to break into the film industry. For his part, James Cameron has learned all of his filmmaking from reading papers from the local Film School. Using that knowledge, he was able to Create some Chansey special effects That worked out in the end.
Also, fuckhead, The Magnificent Seven isn't the original. The Magnificent Seven is Kurosawa's The Seven Samurai remade as a western. For fuck's sake, read a goddamn book...
I love this movie, I saw it when I was a kid, to this day is on my list of top-ten movies for all my life. What could I do to visit the houses-studios of these great artisans and hear their stories along watching those wonderful miniature models, a dream of my childhood!
3:45 I like how the engines on Thad's ship look like the Space Shuttle when it had the engine pods on when transported by a 747. Also: if there is any way to do a video on *Galaxy of Terror* that would be fantastic! I always wished there were better shots/views of the spaceship from that film. I almost wish there were more shots of the models. A lot of these I have never seen.
Always loved Pat's story telling, the best!! They had a bunch of model making effects guys over a friends house. Pat was there with these amazing stories of films he's worked on...:) He kept you glued to the stories he was sharing with us...:)! Great guy and very smart visual effects professional!
I remember watching this as a kid, but also watching a film called Space Raiders, and getting confused at the fact they both used the same special effects.
its a naked female body, complete with breasts. The story goes that they were having a design competition for the different models and James Cameron reasoned that Roger Corman being an exploitation filmmaker would go for breasts so he designed Nell that way and sure enough Corman picked it.
Mmm yes, John Boy in space. And I suspect that what impressed the important people about James Cameron was that he was able to raise money for his project mentioned, and that industry people saw potential in it. But that key skill, fundraising, is incredibly important.
So your next interview needs to be with James Cameron! Good luck! I mean, he's prolly gonna do the press junket for Avatar 2 and, guaranteed, you'll be the only one asking about Battle Beyond the Stars.
I must give this movie another viewing as I've not seen it since the 80s and I do remember not being very favorable about it. I think it was cause the effects were not as great as Star Wars. I have more appreciation for this sort of thing now.
Let me say for the 3 RD time , " those are sum hella cool ,badass aquatic beasts on the shelf behind there! " , & oh yea , look at that ol ass beer can .I remember those cause im old.
I'm in heaven. Miniatures and other art-related aspects of films are often the sole reason I'd watch a movie. Fascinating stuff!

I totally enjoyed this movie. Good Saturday afternoon popcorn flick. The miniatures still hold up to this day. Loved Robert Vaughn ship & character. 🖖

4:08 Colonial viper nose spotted used as gun barrel!
I was always keen on the "hammerhead" ship...I thought the design was awesome...still hoping to build one at some point...stay safe everyone!

For anyone curious, you can also watch that film (Xenogenesis) on RUclips.
barely worked out....😁
Robert Vaughn was in both this film and the original "The Magnificent Seven"!
Not only that, Captain Obvious, he's playing the SAME CHARACTER.
Also, fuckhead, The Magnificent Seven isn't the original.
The Magnificent Seven is Kurosawa's The Seven Samurai remade as a western.

Excellent stuff, one of my fav's still, cheesy but great!!

I have a segment about Robert Skotak and Patrick McClung already here on my channel with photos from Galaxy of Terror and others.

Gotta love that 'The Hooter Ship-!!'

some great work on this movie

3:08 and 4:48 I love these illustrations
I still think Nell is one of the most original spaceship designs in any science fiction film.

@@kentallard8852 Lol! That totally makes sense.
The "boob ship" from BBTS was always one of my favorites! Looked like a combination of a ram, a snail, and a nice rack. Very unique.

Great insight! Appreciate these vids.
Is that the front of a Galactica Viper being used as a gun barrel? I saw this in the theater as a kid. Loved watching all of this. Thank you!!
Sure looks like it! 4:08
It's always a thumbs up fro me.
up there for a favorite movie from my youth
The pistol shown at 4:06 was used in a sci fi graphic novel. I would glad if someone recognizes it and can tell me the name of the graphic novel.

I would be more interested in his stories from Escape From New York and Piranha 2.
@@piercefilm good luck getting him to open up about Piranha 2
@@piercefilm don't forget *Galaxy of Terror!*
@@piercefilm all of that would be awesome.

Did this model have a clear coat
Most film miniatures are painted flat. Glossy looks like a toy model.
The one brother sounds exactly like George Lucas 😮(last one speaking in the video)
That's Robert Skotak.
Nell looked like a woman's torso.
Enjoyed the movie but the main spaceship design was atrocious.
