Wow, excellent information on these stepper motors. Very valuable and very clearly explained! Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge and experience. All other videos I have seen have the Arduino libraries do all the work with no knowledge gained on what makes this motor operate. As you can see, your great video from years ago is still bringing gratitude and joy to curious minds.

I hav a stepper motor from sigma instruments in USA 1980 APPROXIMATELY.
    6wire type.
    All wire hav mutual continuity.
Will it work or dead already ??
How I examine it working condition pl. i Tried hooking up as you said, the ohms are 23 ohms and 46ohms, across 2 of them and 46 ohms across other 4 of them. when i applied to make them rotate with 1.86 volts, it is not rotating, i gradually changed it to 11.5 volts , but i do not see any operation at all. could you pl. help me, thank you.

Dear Sir, I have a 1 phase electric motor that doesn't use carbon brushes. Used unused washing machines. Specifications of 230 volts AC 50 Hz 3.4 amp 100 watts 2800 rpm, SOLE brands made in Italy and 7 cables in light blue, gray, orange, brown, black, red and white orange. I have checked prisoners light blue - gray = 63 Ohm, light blue - orange = 58 Ohm, light blue - brown = 63.1 Ohm, light blue - white orange = 18.4 Ohm, gray - orange = 84.3 Ohm, gray- ash - brown = 89.4 Ohm, gray - orange white = 45.1 Ohm, orange - brown = 84.4 Ohm, orange - orange white = 41.2 Ohm, brown - orange white = 45.9 Ohm, black - red = 27.4 Ohm / alarm sound. Can you help me to determine which connection is phase and neutral.

Hey huge question lol!!!!!!!!!!!!! For years dealt with cnc machines! Had everything form hv ac ones to nema 23 motors....... 6 wire stepper I have always wired just like 4! yeah works what not yea! I have never ever seen use for the two center taps on anything!! WTF is actual use of the center taps. Is it to split the coils from one large one into two sets on each side? seen these damn things over and over no one actually showed how or the piratical use of the center taps even on youtube no videos!

Great video, but my motor shows ~67 ohms across all wires, except the center tap, which is half. How can all windings show continuity between them? The center tap is two red wires on the same pin. So they made it a five wire connector by putting both center taps on the same pin. Can you say what might be going on with these motors. They are geared and came out of a chinese made security camera.

unipolar vs bipolar is there a range of motion difference running a hybrid one way or the other?
    I would think not right?
since the other winding is 180 of the energized coil just more torque but more complex polarity reversing controller?

i have a 6 wires nema23 (black, yellow, green, white, blue, red) no clue if bipolar or unipolar but nvm.
Once you've found the two wires of one coil let's say it's coil "A".
    1. question: how to identify which one is "A" and which one is "A-" in order to connect it to the correct slots on a TB6550
    2. how do you even know if it's coil A or coil B?
identifying the center coil i understand but do i need to use it ?
context building a 1200x1200mm working area cnc machine.
    Thanks for any hint.

A+ and A- is dependent with connection. Commonly revers-able motor, if connected oppositely, will just rotate in opposite way.
