Wow, excellent information on these stepper motors. Very valuable and very clearly explained! Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge and experience. All other videos I have seen have the Arduino libraries do all the work with no knowledge gained on what makes this motor operate. As you can see, your great video from years ago is still bringing gratitude and joy to curious minds.
Thank you very much for your crash course tutorial on 6-wired stepper motors, this is incredible useful and very clearly demonstrated. I wish there were more videos of this level posted on multiple topics. You deserve to receive a genuine compliment.
in unipolar mode, when I energized th wire 1, 2, 3, 4 sequentially it has two direction (it has to be one direction, anti-clockwise or clockwise). wire 1 and 2 has anti-clockwise direction. wire 3 and 4 has clockwise direction. could you help me with this?
Thanks verrrrrrrry much. I was looking for a video to identify wires sequence for a month. I can surely say its the only video that shows how to recognize it. Now, I can start my project after a while with your help. I wish the best for you. Thank you.
man this tutorial is sick.i got to learn everything about my stepper motors.this is the best tutorial on youtube i have seen yet.keep up the good work bro
Thanks for sharing! Your tutorial helped me when I was figuring out the logic for this discrete driver ruclips.net/video/FHCF-Ft41FA/видео.html I also have another step motor in my junk box, but I can only get it to go one direction with this driver. Any idea why?
Fantastic help in understanding what's actually going on with stepper motors on my Open Build CNC router. Your approach at showing the video, followed by clearly stated results and descriptions is great and allows a viewer to "step" (pun intended), thru your video and pause without issue. Thanks for your efforts on this great stepper video.
I hav a stepper motor from sigma instruments in USA 1980 APPROXIMATELY. 6wire type. All wire hav mutual continuity. Will it work or dead already ?? How I examine it working condition pl. i Tried hooking up as you said, the ohms are 23 ohms and 46ohms, across 2 of them and 46 ohms across other 4 of them. when i applied to make them rotate with 1.86 volts, it is not rotating, i gradually changed it to 11.5 volts , but i do not see any operation at all. could you pl. help me, thank you.
Dear Sir, I have a 1 phase electric motor that doesn't use carbon brushes. Used unused washing machines. Specifications of 230 volts AC 50 Hz 3.4 amp 100 watts 2800 rpm, SOLE brands made in Italy and 7 cables in light blue, gray, orange, brown, black, red and white orange. I have checked prisoners light blue - gray = 63 Ohm, light blue - orange = 58 Ohm, light blue - brown = 63.1 Ohm, light blue - white orange = 18.4 Ohm, gray - orange = 84.3 Ohm, gray- ash - brown = 89.4 Ohm, gray - orange white = 45.1 Ohm, orange - brown = 84.4 Ohm, orange - orange white = 41.2 Ohm, brown - orange white = 45.9 Ohm, black - red = 27.4 Ohm / alarm sound. Can you help me to determine which connection is phase and neutral.
Hey brother, how are you doing? I see you posted videos from 8-13 years ago, but nothing newer! Are you okay? Hope you grew professionally and progressed in life! Thank you for your kind and clean explanation! It helped me a lot!
I don't remember well but, 6-8 wires aren't hybride everytime? as they said here? electronics.stackexchange.com/questions/24848/how-to-find-out-whether-i-have-a-unipolar-or-a-bipolar-stepper-motor
hi, i think you are misleading people with the term hybrid, since a hybrid step motor is a mix of permanent magnet and variable reluctance stepper motor
Hey huge question lol!!!!!!!!!!!!! For years dealt with cnc machines! Had everything form hv ac ones to nema 23 motors....... 6 wire stepper I have always wired just like 4! yeah works what not yea! I have never ever seen use for the two center taps on anything!! WTF is actual use of the center taps. Is it to split the coils from one large one into two sets on each side? seen these damn things over and over no one actually showed how or the piratical use of the center taps even on youtube no videos!
Thanks Bro for the informative content, I learned a lot I was corrected the step motor of my client, it was reversed the rotation when they replaced the pcb of their indoor, now working in normal condtion.👍👍
Thanks for a very clear and helpful video. Does a six-wire stepper running in bipolar mode produce the same torque as a four-wire of the same size and specification? Liked and Subscribed. :o)
Great video, but my motor shows ~67 ohms across all wires, except the center tap, which is half. How can all windings show continuity between them? The center tap is two red wires on the same pin. So they made it a five wire connector by putting both center taps on the same pin. Can you say what might be going on with these motors. They are geared and came out of a chinese made security camera.
unipolar vs bipolar is there a range of motion difference running a hybrid one way or the other? I would think not right? since the other winding is 180 of the energized coil just more torque but more complex polarity reversing controller?
Great! Hands on demostration and explanation! Would you please continue making more videos? Maybe videos about making your own drivers or controllers for stepper motors.
please help. i have a 6 wires nema23 (black, yellow, green, white, blue, red) no clue if bipolar or unipolar but nvm. Once you've found the two wires of one coil let's say it's coil "A". 1. question: how to identify which one is "A" and which one is "A-" in order to connect it to the correct slots on a TB6550 2. how do you even know if it's coil A or coil B? identifying the center coil i understand but do i need to use it ? context building a 1200x1200mm working area cnc machine. Thanks for any hint.
Super explanation. Cleared the fundamental of motor drive.
Thank you sir. Now I can use the all the different stepper motors I have gathered over the years.

A+ and A- is dependent with connection. Commonly revers-able motor, if connected oppositely, will just rotate in opposite way.
