  • You've mastered the French braid and aced the fishtail. Now what? The waterfall braid is the next big trend in braids, and we love that they're sweet and look way more complicated than they are. This might take a bit of practice, but once you get the hang of it you'll be braiding up a storm.

I'd LOVE to see a shot of the finished style at the beginning of the tutorial… so I can know what I'm working towards. As it is, I had to fast-forward to the end to see what a "waterfall braid" is!

I hope I can help out a bit. From what I see, it seems that when you grab a piece of hair from the top, you leave it hanging down at the bottom after you cross it over. Instead of using that piece of hair again to cross back up (since it's now hanging), you take a loose piece of hair from under the braid and flip it up... continuing this process all the way around.

O would never be able to do that on my own hair but could maybe find a friend to try it sometime....did not look possible to do on yourself, especially because it wasn't shown as someone doing it on themselves....

So I can waterfall to Chinese ladder, 5 strand, dutch, French, the list goes on but saw a slight difference in the appearance of this waterfall braid so I figured I'd give it a try. Even with the ability to waterfall braid I still got no guidance from this video. She pretty much 1/2 explains how to french braid while randomly saying to "drop the bottom piece after crossing the section over"... wish this could be redone because I love the look of this, it almost appears like a 1/2 knot french waterfall braid.

There is a great video by cutegirlshairstyles on youtube where she does the waterfall braid on her own hair - that's how I learned to do it :) I can even do it from one side of my head to the other now with some patience. and it's an arm workout too! Very simple, all you do is drop the bottom piece and pick up a new section to replace it, and for the top piece you always add a bit more loose hair from the top before you braid it in.

I wished they focused the camera on the hair and hands versus the people. It is hard to tell what pieces/sections she is referring to when the camera is focused on her.

  • @edith2022

i don't think it was much of the stylist instructions that was not well it was the camera person that would change position and would not leave the camera still to 'see' exactly how the braid is being done step by step

This isn’t even a tutorial. She goes “grab from the bottom” then it jumps til she’s almost at the back of the head and says “and we pull from the top” 🤯

I wish you had shown you actually doing it. It's easy to do it on someone else's hair but not so much on your own hair...

You can't call this a "tutorial". There was no step by step instructions. Sometimes she was taking hair from the bottom and sometimes the top, and it wasn't well explained or shown at all! I'm so confused on how to do this. Felt more like an ad than a tutorial.
