    I agree - Stallone is a natural storyteller.
    Shatters Hollywood's formula approach to screenwriting.
    Great video. Thanks

    I would also add the importance of the music.
    The rocky theme is actually a sad theme played on the piano. You hear it time after time throughout the film in this depressed piano rendition. I think it also highlights Rocky’s gentle nature because it is a very kind sounding theme as well. Then you get the montage scene and it’s suddenly transformed into this funky theme that is full of energy and self belief. Those sad notes and chords (representing Rockys past struggle) are carried by the energy of this rendition of the theme. Always get quite emotional when listening to it.
    Great analysis and video as well!!

    • @nottucks
      @nottucks 3 года назад +1

      Yeah first time I saw it I genuinely felt my gut drop with the rendition for his first training scene (the one where he’s out of breath). Soundtrack for this is much more than just the training montage.

      Bill Conti mentioned that he made Gonna Fly Now after reading the script, he read that Rocky is going to lose and he knows it, but Bill made the theme hopeful and optimistic anyways.

    Rocky is an icon for the everyman, for underdogs hoping for a better tomorrow. There's a Rocky in all of us which is why it touched so many hearts, he didnt want the title, he just wants to look at the mirror and see a man he would be glad to be staring back at him.

      Thanks for giving my video a watch and leaving a comment. I can't in good conscience call myself either a writer or a fan of food writing and support Mary Sue writing at the same time. Character are what draw us into movies and when they are written in a shallow fashion it ruins the immersion for me.

    This was brilliant, I enjoyed it so much, thank you. The other element of the film I love is how it took two “incomplete,” lost, downtrodden people, and through their growing love and support for each other, through allowing themselves to be vulnerable and authentic and (literally) naked with each other, they reached their own self-actualisation; by finding each other, two outcasts and lost people were able to find themselves. What a beautiful film, I cry like a baby every time I watch it. This was a great video, I’ve subscribed, thanks.

    I just could not get enough of this man’s amazing thoughts & breakdown! This is a film that touched my heart so deeply since I was of elementary age back in the 70s. After 45 years, it still holds the number one title in my heart & mind, as the GREATEST film I have ever seen. AS HE SAID, “this is not a film about boxing, boxing is merely the canvas upon which the story is laid”.
    AMAZING COMMENTARY. Literally 5 STARS & then some. I ate up every word you said sir

      I would add ONE MORE thing of importance to the above; After ROCKY 2, I truly don’t have much affinity for any of them, UNTIL ROCKY 6. I didn’t see it in the theatre bc I thought Stallone had gone too far since he did Rocky 4. However, there were some things in 5 that I had missed about Rocky; the gritty ness of the streets (and OF COURSE MICKEY) but 5 was ‘hit and miss’; ROCKY 6 WAS GOLD. It brought me right back to the ALIENATION inside the character, the sorrow, the loss; it’s up there with part 1 & 2 in my book; Rocky 1 of course shines at the top

    • @PeakedInterest
      @PeakedInterest  2 года назад

      You should give Stallone's new edit of rocky 4 a watch, I thought it was a vast improvement and more in line with the type of character based writing Stallone built his name on.

      The whole rocky series is pretty autobiographical when you look at them as a whole. They strongly reflect stallones rising and falling star throughout the years. Its really pretty interesting. By rocky 3 when stallone was a huge star with a huge ego so is rocky. Rocky V he has lost relevance and just want to use his name, just like real life.

      It depends really on what genre you're looking at, what you've already seen etc. If you choose a genre I'd be happy to point out some which were written well

    • @rodolfocalderon8240
      @rodolfocalderon8240 5 лет назад +1

      Yeah I understand the question may have been too broad. However, I’m of the opinion that quality trumps all. Meaning, I can appreciate a movie (this applies to all: music, art, etc.) from a genre I don’t care for, as long I know that the quality is there and I haven’t aimlessly wasted my time. So a more specified version of the question would be: Because you seem to have a good grasp on what good movie script writing looks and feels like (I assume this from this video, haha), what movies from today’s era would you recommend based on having good writing? Genre be damned. Haha. Cheers.

    • @PeakedInterest
      @PeakedInterest  5 лет назад +1

      Se7en by Andrew Kevin walker is the best script of the modern era in my opinion. Here's a few more suggestions
      Sci Fi - alien
      Comedy - Dumb and Dumber
      Horror - It Follows
      Drama - Wall Street
      Thriller - Basic Instinct
      Action - Robocop
      Misc - Memento, the prestige
      Some of these may seem like odd choices because they're not the usual artistic dramas that people usually rave about but I chose them based on how well they create their characters, universe and the pacing of the plot is well balanced.
      PS sorry the reply took a while youtube didn't notify me of your response

      @@PeakedInterest The only thing I didn t like about the story (a minor thing, but still) is the fact that he takes Adrian's glasses off, tells her "i knew u were pretty" as if glasses make her ugly, and then she never wears them for the rest of the movie as if they could ever afford contacts. Even in real life they wouldn t have afforded contacts at that point :)) And like, i doubt her glasses were just a fashion choice. There's nothing shameful in wearing glasses, people!

    • @PeakedInterest
      @PeakedInterest  4 года назад +1

      Yeah I think thats a somewhat valid complaint but we also need to consider that the glasses were just like the hats and sweaters - social camouflage to hide herself because she didn't feel pretty. Once she can see that rocky is genuine in his belief that she is attractive she comes to believe it herself and ditches the hat, sweaters and glasses.
      It's more a visual representation of the character views herself.
      In the original script notes Stallone mentions that Adrian idolises her mother and that she died early. It's possible the glasses could be hers but that's really me trying to read the backstory rather than explicit
