Slab Hut Creek Easter Ride 30-03-2024

- Left home at 06:00 for a three hour drive to Reefton and meet up with Jono KTM525, Luke KTM300, Connor DRZ400, Adam CRF450, Dan KTM450, Ben DRZ400 and Kelly KTM 450 for another ride on the tracks around Slab Hut Creek, they had all arrived Friday . The sun was out the sky was blue the morning was a bit cool but it wasn't long before there was some crashing, alot of falling, sweating, huffing and puffing, dragging lifting, pulling and a wee bit of swearing. Also did two more tracks I hadn't done on my previous trip.

00:01:12 Kelly did really well for someone who dosen't do alot of riding, he also had the baldest rear tyre.

00:02:23 Adam on his CRF tall first gear annd like my YZ dosen't like starting in gear.
00:03:01 Connor hasn't ridden anything like these tracks did really well, we adjusted rear wheel air pressure on a few bikes here.
00:03:50 Jono organised this ride and has ridden and 4x4 trucked these tracks many times.
00:04:34 Luke who has also ridden and 4x4 these tracks many times with Jono, not sure what oil he was using but the two stroke smelt really nice.

00:10:50 Can you spot the top athlete in our group, most of us had plastic soled boots that really sucked in the grip department on these smooth slippery rocks.

00:23:54 Kelly's stand was getting in the way so we took it off, Dan's battery died so we took the kick start off of Jono's bike but it was worn and angled back so your wet plastic soled boot slipped off, Connor had a jump pack.

00:49:45 Bag of 4x4 towing strops someone will be gutted they left these behind.
00:50:02 Yep I was right this was fun I had already ridden up this but I hadn't turned the camera back on after we left the hut so I rode back down.

00:59:10 Adams turn, he made it up but short legs means the grounds a long way down so he ended up pointing the wrong way, ahh well probably should've caught him.

I glad we didn't do the loop we were going to, looked very hard work at the start where you were dragging bikes up, coming out of the hut looks a lot harder than I remember to, the track you came back out on at the end was the one we were heading into just after we saw you and then we turned right instead of left to go back to Soldiers road, after that we went out the other side of Reefton to a 4wd track alongside the Waitahu river to Montgomerie hut, the river was too high to get there though as it has to be crossed a few times
Hey there Warwick yeah that first rock face we were dragging the bikes up is super slippery, all but one of us had plastic soled boots it was a nightmare trying to get a footing and stand up. Had a lot of fun, funny how I had stopped to chat to you but I didn't recognise you, obviously you recognised me sorry about that.
No wonder the big fella was off work, that was gnarly.
Hey there, yeah was pretty gnarly in some spots especially when you don't do a lot of riding, so did the big fella have Tuesday off of work.
