    I would argue that things not working properly, editing .ini and .cfg files, asking people on Reddit why nothing is working, downloading questionable software from unknown 3rd parties and ultimately buying new hardware due to weird compatibility problems IS the true heart of the PC experience.

    • @vjmtz
      @vjmtz 2 месяца назад +6

      @@KhizarKhan2001 i also disagree, while true the vast majority and the ideal thing is for a PC to just work, that is not how PCs inheriently work and is the PC experience unfortunately and even fortunately. PCs are just inherently susceptible to issues due to so many things. Its why there's consoles where "it just works" is a selling point at the loss of quality and having a wider range of use (PCs can do work+gaming) at a cheaper price for HW.
      PC users unfortunately have to take that risk using a open platform, much like how Linux users have to accept the same prospect. The good thing though is there is community support, and self-control to resolve such issues, or to simply make a game better through mods, hacks, etc.

    • @Cogglesz
      @Cogglesz 2 месяца назад

      True statements OP! Haven't been happier to unlock more feautures (or even DLC) by editing some config files and getting help for any vauge issues and someone already went through every issue you did. Thing i worry about is the simplification of games distribution. Take the Xbox App, Great to just hit play and go, especially if you go portable or something, i've noticed though you can't even edit or mod most titles, Heck ReShade is totally banned from being applied to any game and actually banned to use for Xbox App Pc users. It's such a pain for a legacy user to just be locked out of config files and enhancements. I think for steam we'll still at least have plenty years of messing about with game files. Even something as simple as adding your own radio station in GTA back in 05 was amazing. We've got so many extra resources and memory on tap for being a power user.

    • @MGsubbie
      @MGsubbie 2 месяца назад +3

      @@vjmtz "Its why there's consoles where "it just works" is a selling point" But that's barely the case anymore either. It's a false perception because there is no way to fix things on console, so people don't spend any time trying to fix it. They just have to accept it not working properly. Jedi Survivor was pretty broken on console too until they released the non-RT versions as well, for example. And PC gamers have higher standards for what is acceptable performance as well.

      Yeah, I had no bluetooth issues at all. I have bluetooth built into my motherboard with a wifi/bluetooth antenna, and from what I've ready, anyone else with this configuration hasn't had problem either. It seems to be more about strength of signal and low interference than it is about specific bluetooth standards.
      I think the miss from Sony here is that they saw there were bluetooth issues but didn't properly figure out the proper fix to communicate on their website. Update your drivers, make sure your computer isn't inbetween where the bluetooth is coming from and your controllers, and it should work.

      I remember Sony's DS4 controllers having numerous BT issues with Windows PC. (Essentially you would get connections that pair ok, and then eventually drop out (no inputs) while remaining detected). The strange thing is this would be a bit unpredictable, it could work fine for a while, then act up, then be fine again, all without changing any hardware or drivers. There were numerous (laborous) work arounds you could use to get everything working but it was a pretty byzantine process. I wonder if those might still work for this issue.
      Either way I'd imagine there must be a quirk to Sony's BT implementation on their Playstation hardware that doesn't always play nice with PC. Some nonstandard BT uses (or more likely,, using some part of the standard that is just ignored by most PC hardware vendors). Still I'm sure it's frustrating if you do get the issue.

    Apparently raring and rearing both mean the same thing: a horse standing up on its hindquarters. So both "rearing to go" and "raring to go" are equivalent, except for the idiom seemingly appearing with the "raring" form first. Most Americans would say a horse "rears up" on its hindquarters so it makes more sense for them to say they are "rearing to go" than to say they are "raring to go".

If you would say "rears up" instead of "rares up" it seems strange to say "raring to go".

Search for "horse rearing" and then search for "horse raring". See what you find.
      The phrase was apparently originally "raring to go" (although Google ngram suggests that the two sprang up near concurrently around 1920 and then the "raring" variant became dominant). But almost no one uses the word "rare" in that way any more. It makes no sense to use a dialectical word outside one's own dialect when the natural thing is to use the word from one's own dialect. In print, sticklers will perhaps demand 'raring' but 'rearing' can't be considered wrong because 'rearing' and 'raring' mean the exact same thing." It takes about 2 minutes to edit a config file and sort everything out on the headset end. Can't tell me the entirety of Sony didn't think of backwords compatibility when even the VR1 had a very shallow pool to pick from already. You don't need devs to add new updates to every game, Over on PC you can easily enjoy 2017 titles with 2023 hardware. Steam made it work and made it seem easy thanks to their experience with big picture mode and custom controller configs.
      Probably some silly anti piracy that won't detect the controllers since you had to use PS3 Move controllers. It's the only reason i can think of for them not doing what steam does with the 10 or more VR headsets and controllers out in the PC space.

    16:00 The purpose of non X3D CPU is non gamers. It's the professional sectors that not only won't benefit from the 3D V cache, but that also can't accept the lost in production performances the non X3D CPU suffers. X3D chips are always slower in production that their non X3D counterparts.
    And the 9700x destroys the 7800X3D in Cinebench and, at almost half the power, matches the 7700x.
    If you enable PBO, and let it run with much higher power usage, it destroys almost all AMD CPUs currently on the market.
    Guys, PC is not just for gaming. Those are consoles...
    I spend hours every day rendering on my PC, keeping it at 100% CPU usage. I don't need 3D V cache for that workload, I need multicore performances and clock speed. And if I can get those without bleeding myself dry with electricity bill, even better.

    • @aggies11

      Fair point, it really does depend on the workload. But to counter, not every gamer has the budget for higest end X3D chips (although the more recent 5700X3D was nice to see, it's coming too late to be relevant). Those gamers are looking for 6 and 8 core parts. As upgrades from the R5 7600 and R5 7700, these new chips don't move the needle much for gaming, and cost much more. This product stack segement's chips can usually deliver excellent performance/price for value oriented buyers. That value is missing this time around.
      And one can make a similar argument that productivity oriented consumers with "work" to do, would be more interested in the top of the stack with 12 and 16 core oriented chips. So I think it might be fair to split the difference and say these chips are often oriented at value consumers who can't afford the top of the stack, and might do a mix of both gaming and productivity tasks.

I've replayed it several times since release. If Hellblade can find an audience, it's a crime that 1886 didn't. Their PSP games were also some of the best on the handheld. Really sad news.

    3D cache was not developed specifically for gaming. It was more a side effect it helped and thus it arrived in consumer tier. In compute workloads, the gap between execution potential and ram bandwidth in order to feed it has been growing wider for decades. Current CPUs are severely data starved. Bigger caches, like 3D cache, is more like a patch to the problem. The real solution is a faster memory system but that comes with more cost and complexity to implement.

    I ran into similar controller connection issues when connecting the PS5 controller simultaneously with a second PS5 or PS4 controller when using my motherboard's built in bluetooth.
    The only thing that worked in the end was using a seperate TP-Link UB500 bluetooth adapter (the one I have is a slightly older model). This same adapter is now listed on Playstation's support page as a recommended bluetooth adapter for the PSVR controllers, meaning it's probably the same issue as with the regular controllers.

I think DF's focus on more CPU demanding games (even if a bit older) is very interesting data (and does seem to emphasise the gen on gen improvements). Great info to have, of course the question becomes how relevant will that be with future games. But if you do prefer CPU demanding titles then I think it can help inform your buying decisions.
