The problem of evil (/suffering) is a philosophical challenge to certain forms of theism where there is a disconnect between expectation and reality. I'm not understanding how the problem translates to non-theism. Even if non-theists are optimistic, that concerns hope not expectation. As for coping with suffering, that is not a philosophical problem.
