      and this should be main point in video, at last 2 games are limited because it, and they are new games which suggesting it is a trend.
      This is not MX tier gpu, and should get only negative review, so Nvidia change same thing next time, but when reviewers are giving pass, we would see 4GB in next gen too.... sad.

    • @AndreyStevn
      @AndreyStevn 3 года назад +24

      I get your point, but think that people buying these laptops have little to 0 knowledge on PC parts and they're not looking to get a 3090 like gaming PC with these. They're most likely looking for something that gets them to play whatever game they like with no effort at all. So these laptops will sell like popcorn because people will see "RTX" and "NVIDIA" on the box and go crazy on them.
      Also, something we're all ignoring here and I support it despite people hating. 4GB in Turing architecture is not the same as 4GB in Ampere architecture, despite not being as powerful as 6GB or 8GB, you can see that most of the results are acceptable somehow and that's what these "target people" are looking for.

    • @TechyBen
      @TechyBen 3 года назад +24

      4gb on a gaming GPU in 2021 is amazingly poor form. Considering the results. a 3030? Yep. But 3050 needs 6gb IMO. :/

    • @jmporkbob
      @jmporkbob 3 года назад +35

      @@AndreyStevn The "target people" are looking for something cheap that will be acceptable, yes. But the issue is they will be throwing their money away because it will not be acceptable for games that will be coming out going forward, especially as we get out of this cross-gen phase of consoles.
      Budget folks are usually gonna keep their stuff longer because they were barely able to afford it in the first place. Given that, 4 GB is simply not acceptable and should be shouted from the rooftops so that those people with 0 knowledge don't get royally screwed.

Yes, it's roughly be $100 less than the 1660ti was at launch, but under normal circumstances you would save as much if not more than that by simply getting a used 1660ti model compared to what it was at launch. not really these cpu are hardily AMPERE.... look at a 80-100w 3070 vs a 80-100w 2070s or 2080.....thats more of a glimpse of "ampere". Add the same 3070 max q i once owned vs the 2070s max q in the system i have now.....in a game like warzone that offers dlss. The results become even more apparent. Ive owned 2080ti strix/5700xt tuf/5700xt strix all since last summer, as well as a 3070 FE and 3070 Strix at launch. AMPERE is hyper efficicent "by its design".....i try to push my strix to 325w like my 2080ti strix...i get 3070ti results in 3dmark. Yet the 2080ti has 11gb and also scores that range with a large oc and ram oc. The efficicency aspect for me......is when i played non AAA games or capped my games as well to my 21:9 monitors 144hz refresh rate. Compared to the 2080Ti my 3070 is running at laptop power values 60-140w......my 2080ti and 5700xt needed so much more power for the same frame yields. Not to mention the heat the 2080ti and 5700xt(ungodly) would generate when OC/pushed. The 5700xt at 275w and 2ghz oc was at 75-80c 75% fan speed.....the 3070 FE i undervolted at 925mv....to run 1965mhz max and consumed around 260w max......in non AAA games it could run its stock fancurve of 0rpm until 60c.....in moba and other non AAA games the fans wouldnt even turn on.....the 5700xt strix had a 0rpm mode....60c idle. XD. Idk what ppl like you expect splitting hairs between 3050 gpu and a gtx 1650ti and going only 35% faster with etc about tdp like it matters. The 3050 vs previous model optios had to be stripped down to add more rtx cores look at the amount of rastors AMD has put on big navi since navi.....my 5500xt gpu does 100w stock 125w oc......and most laptops beat it....and ppl would rather have a higher wattage 580x or 590x. weird how those people arent crying about rtx 3050s and how they expect better from nvidia....just like the amd fanboys that think FXR is supported and free by every game...and if its so easy to implement why isnt amd in house at ever dev/publisher. Its all the same ppl talking the same bs

      Right? Nvidia could have given us nearly the same performance from the 1650ti simply by unlocking not gimping the power of that model. Cost them nothing, but allowed them to charge more for 1660 and 2060 without looking stupid. And 2 years later a 30% performance increase isn’t all that remarkable. All we truly get this generation that is “new” is some ray tracing and dlss support, which run on this weak gpu isn’t going to be great given how few tensor cores it has.

    How can you tell "the RTX 3050 is a good replacement for the previous 1650Ti since it offers on average 35% more performance". 10:03 - You are completely disregarding that the 3050 uses 60% more power to give that performance. Since we are talking of laptops power draw is important. Giving 35% more FPS for 60% more power means that the GPU is horseshit. It means it uses 25% more power for just RTX and to be equal in efficiency to a 1650Ti. If this GPU used 50W like the 1650Ti it would be slower than the 1650Ti if DLSS is not used and if it is used then it suffers from VRAM limitation, even more if the main feature is used (RTX). If we are comparing the IPC @ clock or IPC @ TDP like we would for CPUs... it went DOWN. It is a regression in architecture, not an improvement. Sure it has two more features (DLSS/RTX) but it is still a regression in rasterization.
    My comment is mainly about laptops where power is important, but I argue this treatment should be used even for desktop GPUs, to avoid having 500W+ GPU the next generation. They need to make them better at the same power draw not just increase power to hide regressions in performance/watt.

    As someone who recently purchased a new hp pavillion gaming with ryzen 7 5800h i opted for the one with the rtx 3050 non ti, yes the cpu is certainly overkill for the gpu but i got it on a deal that had me pay the same as i would have for the ryzen 5 equivalent (i initially opted for), so why not?.
    I though just a few seconds to pay some more for the 3050 ti version... but threw this out the window instantly. Sure it would be the faster gpu but the gigs of vram would most likely negate the performance gains vs the non ti anyways. If the 3050 would have come with 6 or 8 gigs it would have been a no brainer.. but with 4 gigs i don´t see the value.
    the 3050 non ti is what i consider just a mid-mid range gpu (with the 3060 being high mid range and the 3050 probably in between both but kinda questionable with its 4 gigs of vram)and the 4 gigs of vram, while not that much, should be ok for what the gpu will be able to perform, i mean you won´t be able to run those games with max settings which require more vram anyways cause even if you had more vram the frames would nosedive duo to the "low" gpu power itself.
    So far it seems i made the right choice, the games i play run perfectly fine with the ryzen 7 rtx 3050 combo, specially as i stay with 1080p and not higher resolutions. Also my gaming habits, the games i play, changed a lot over the years. I certainly am no longer into the newest and most hyped games that probably will require a top notch system to run with all the fancy stuff, so why waste money and spend 500-1000 bucks more on a laptop to run those games perfectly fine which you are most likely never going to play anyways.

      its more or less an aspect of if your panel displayes overshoot when its running in "adaptive sync" where your system gpu/monitor can automatically change refreshrates on the fly based on available frames. Its largely dependent on the panel and eventual processing/motherboard the manufactuerer implements for their various "settings/presets" and overdrive settings. Its an aspect of responsetimes and frame time/input latency. You would tune your montor to 120hz only if you display worse ghosting/inverseghosting/overshoot from your monitor changing it to there on its own....youd probably benefit more from that as well as putting the overdrive to its 1st level vs faster/fastest. but agian im not sure what monitor/panel you have. If you want to hit 240hz you could by running a lower render res like 720p then upscale it to 1080p.....or down scaling like running 1080p with a 75% render resolution. Or running games with engines that can blur textures to maintain a certain fps threshold like rage 2 per ex. Typically called dynamic resolution/dynamic resolution scaling. GDDR6 price end up going up. the same might as well happen to PCB boards. 128 bit might be cheaper than 256 bit one but it might be more expensive than it was in the past. die size did not dictate what kind of price the card should have. for example people are complaining that nvidia Gx104 chip belong to sub $300 segment not sub $600. but at the same time on one really complaining AMD high end GPU that having similar size asking much higher price tag. and ultimately AMD try yo push their share price higher. to keep the investor coming they need to show that the profit margin are improving and they are the right company to invest for better reward.

    Thanks for the vid, by the time it reaches here it won't probably be that good of a deal anymore, but it's nice that the few lucky ones that get this as MSRP will get a pretty decent deal overall for entry level gaming~
    Just a caveat, on the games that are definitely VRAM limited and stuff like AC:Vallhala, would you please also test them on lower graphic settings so that we can also see real world performance on them? A DLSS On comparison would be nice as well, as I think even if using it at 1080p is not ideal, these 3050 and 3050ti would probably benefit a LOT from DLSS giving their VRAM limitations.

    What I found missing (because this is point of view I'm considering 3050ti from) from your 3050ti review, was the fact, that it is a card that can be found in some 13inch thin and lights (two in one) like from Asus-ROG. In this category seems like clear winner, as there seems to be not much competition that are somewhat modern game capable. Yeah, It's on the lower spectrum of TDP, so performance is lower (not sure how much tho, that's the info I'm looking for), but I'm not expecting to see 3060 or 3070 in laptop like that.

Imagine a fully dedicated cooing system in a laptop for a zen3+ processor to push 45-65w in a game while pushing a 2-300w gpu on an e-gpu enclousre. By then we could find a 6600xt for a good deal. Considering its pci-e4.0 8x. IDk the bandwidth limits of usb4 vs thunderbolt 3 x4. Since some flagship gpu can exceed those bandwidth limits.

I will be waiting for the 3070 super and 3080 super to step up to a more vram more 4k capable gpu. Ill be selling my 3070s to friends on 1440p 16:9 which IMO is the true limit of that gpu. I had little to no VRAM to stream to show my friends the various AAA titles on max on 21:9. In part to the 8gb of which i felt i could have streamed with the 2080ti. Given the price of a 2080ti and ability to sell it, thats the only reason i moved to ampere was for their cards at MSRP pricing.

      You need to see the TGP of your RTX 3050, if you're running in dual-channel, if Optimus is enabled or disabled(If that's available). That RTX 3050 tested here is the highest TGP option. Some OEMs use lower TGP, as the RTX 3050 can be configured ranging from 35W to 80W.
