Smiling friends despite being insane, has heart, a weird heart, but a heart nonetheless. (Cause while it also has shock value, the shock value happens to the villains and antagonist, not the heroes) Family guy is just Mean, even if it does have it's moments it's just not it. With Smiling Friends, Not only are the jokes and characters better, but even the animation and visuals are better, heck even when it's "basic" at times, it still does it better and more charming while Family guy is so stiff and lifeless. Honestly i wish we had more stuff like Smiling friends...... given that it's very successful ugh we probably will.
The funny thing is this is the same reason Family Guy was loved in the first seasons. Besides the animation (which Smiling Friends is just vastly impressive in general) Smiling Friends shares a lot with Fanily Guy at first.
@TheNelman You can definitely see the influence with the occasional realistic sounding dialogue in Family guy that became a staple in Smiling friends.
I think all shows benefit greatly from a season finale. I hope smiling friends leaves us wanting, cause it's better to miss it than wanting it to leave.
8:40 What I love about South Park ripping on Family Guy's writing is that the episodes have more depth, meaning, and complexity to them, than the entirety of Family Guy will ever have.

Seth just likes using his characters as mouthpieces. He will sterilize a character he likes and absolutely demolish the others. Especially Meg and Joe. I don't know why. He is either pathologically egotistic, or he genuinely thinks writing his characters this disjointedly is funny. Or something. I don't know. Either way, we have sterilized Quagmire now.
I am so happy people share this sentiment, because I'm so sick of zany, hijinx fueled cartoons completely breaking their premise by occasionally attempting to tug at your heart strings. It doesn't make the characters seem deeper, because that isolated moment of sentiment will be completely irrelevant as soon as we return to the status quo. If anything it shows how bad of a writer you are, because nothing you tell can be trusted.
@@SiresOrbwits-oi8mz Love em. They stayed true to their initial premise and could pull off endearing moments on occasion because the writers knew what they were doing. Well, maybe not Invader Zim, that just wouldn't have fit the show lol
Brian dying was probably the biggest refresh the show had, and it caused the lazy writers to catch up to the animation team for the first time. But they relapsed into old bad habits and brought brian back.
I mean the humor and writing during those 3 episodes where brian was dead was still the same level of unfunny and lazy that other family guy episodes were around that time. If you watch the episode where brian dies, it's just another episode where unfunny lazy humorous writing is interwoven with scenes that are trying too hard to be deep.
Smiling friends, Bluey, and Rainworld, despite their wackiness and insane nature, have a level if maturity to them that makes them feel good to experience. They have standards, funny moments, and most importantly, a soul. You can feel the essence of strong emotions whenever one of the three wants you to feel that way. One issue, a lot of modern Family Guy cut away jokes have is just over explaining a minor inconvenience as the main punchline of the joke, like the cut away joke of Peter working at a bowling alley explaining how it's a horrible place to have a party at, a lot of the time they are just boring or the cut away joke is just over done meta-humor
I mean in the first seasons, cutaways were way more different because stuff was actually happening to them now it’s just a four minute clip of Peter Griffin, struggling to put on plastic wrap on a plate. There’s a reason it’s not funny.
The reason Family Guy is a compilation of random jokes, whereas Smiling Friends has jokes fitting the plot comes down heavily to the fact that the FG writer's room has 30 people, and the SF room has 2 or 3. It's easier for jokes to be consistent with the plot if everyone's writing the same plot. FG writers try to fit a story to their jokes, SF writers try to fit jokes into a story.
It's literally like that scene in Inside Out 2 with the team of braincells(?) in a room making up individual ideas in little cubicles with one braincell on a big screen giving them very generalized guidelines lmfao

Those are just the normal character models edited into Family Guy. The "critique" you think you're giving to Family Guy is just saying that the same character you're used to seeing "looks weird" all of sudden when he's next to Peter Griffin. There's a slight lighting filter on that part of the video though, maybe your eye is being tricked by that.

I normally enjoy it when writers have the courage to try things you wouldn't expect, but Family Guy's attempts at being melancholy and genuine are ultimately eclipsed by its insatiable need to make every lead character as unlikable as humanly possible. When numerous episodes are spent selling to me how awful Brian Griffin is in all aspects of his personality, including multiple where Quagmire straight up breaks down his failures and vices to him, and then later tries to get me to care about him as a person, it just doesn't work. At all.
This video made me realize not only i dont know a single person in my life that watches family guy, but i have never seen a single episode of family guy and the most exposure ive had with the show is through deep fried memes on my feed.
Family Guy is one of those show I only like to binge. It isn't good enough to watch weekly but only good when the season is completed and watch them all back to back. The Far Side and Calvin and Hobbes is good enough to get a laugh with one comic but Garfield isn't, you need one of those rectangle books to get a laugh.
Smiling Friends came from an idea from a creator who really wanted to create something, and had a brilliant idea of taking what was successful on the internet (in terms of animations), and bringing it to television. Smiling Friends something you would see in animation from the 2000s and 2010s, but with more financial resources and an art direction that plays with "limited animation" Family Guy is literally just a bunch of jokes thrown at you, with no creativity or effort. Not to be unfair, the occasional episode has some creative ideas, but at the end of the day, They are just repeated jokes
My cousins showed me smiling friends earlier this year on MAX I enjoyed the weird/scary/wholesomeness of the show. I binged the first two seasons in a weekend. It reminds me of a more adult version of Bob’s Burgers.
I think a good example of the difference between the two shows is James. He's an angry, violent man, yes. But he's also _miserable_ and feels guilty about it. It's a stark contrast to the one-off characters Family Guy has, who are shallow, one note, and obviously so.
I feel like every creative endeavour has a lifespan of sorts- during which it can either grow with it’s audience or stick to the formula it started with. With family guy being *meant* to have at least a few strong roots in reality it doesn’t have the room to stretch out in any meaningful way- and this is only compounded by the fact that it’s written for a contract and has really lost a good portion of it’s artistic expression. Smiling friends on the other hand is a big messy bowl of absurdism and relatability, with nothing to really tether it to reality at all. Yes the universe in the show is a constant of its own, but it’s so far removed from what we know that the artists have given themselves an incredibly vast space to grow into before it starts to get stale. And all that is piled on top of the fact that smiling friends is the product of a handful of guys just hanging out and making each other laugh- which is so much more appealing than a bucket of slop pre-approved by a board of stuffy overthinkers in suits. I enjoy smiling friends and I really do hope to see more absurdism joining the Adult Swim channel in the future
Dont even need to watch the video: family guy is mean spirited with horibly flanderized characters and dosent know how to tell a joke beyond making fun of groups of people. Smiling friends is about some silly lil dudes in silly lil fucked up situations tryna make people smile
I'd personally say you might wanna get yourself tested for brain rot. (Not a joke, some people just get used to crap and forget why they liked it in the first place. They don't even realize they're watching a shell of what they once loved because they've also turned into shell's of what they once were.)
The Renegade Angel has been mentioned. Our enlightening ascension is closer at hand. We must just bide our time and soon all with understand the Pentagonultimate question: What Doth Liyef?
Though I agree with the message I refuse to acknowledge the slander of the Firetruck NatGeo cutaway gag. I dont care the context thats peak cutaway gag humor
I love family guy, the earlier seasons hold a great place in my heart. I think the problem with family guy now is that they’re trying too hard to be funny, By using dark humor and gore. What was so great about the earlier seasons was that the funnyness came from the relatability.
No offense, but I feel like you meat ride smiling friends too much like I’m fine with You talking about it but you saying why smiling friends is loved and and this is hated is bit too much and I feel like you’re trying to drive other animation shows to the ground for the public to not like them, just saying not trying to be rude
I think it all comes down to sincerity in comedy. We've heard all the overt, millennial cynicism for YEARS at this point, and people are yearning for a more authentic, genuine form of comedy. Family guy is written for millennials, by Gen x/millennials. And newer generations are just sorta sick of that cynicism/pessimism. Sometimes the best humor is just the acknowledgment of natural human interaction: it's silly, and cringey even! But it's beautiful and deserving of admiration, not deceit. Family guy needs to learn from Smiling Friends that good, optimistic comedy is what people want now!
Idk if anyone will agree with me but the early seasons of Family Guy were more earnest, a spoof of the average American family and pop culture. Then they became super mean spirited, Lois became slutty, Peter was just a dick, Meg was abused relentlessly… they went from the average family to white trash. And some of that is fine in small doses, but seriously the characters changed dramatically from the early seasons.
It could be also that the humor has just run out with those characters. In elementary school I watched family guy I had one of their games one other playstation 2 and now I will be 30 next year. Its been a literal 20+ years the same formula jokes were gonna die eventually.
People will compare any adult cartoon with an edge and cuss words to family guy. I’ve seen people compare has in hotel to family guy and the only thing they have in common is the cussing and show tunes. Adult animation is sadly tied to this god forsaken show and no one will let it die, even the people who are sick of it.
Seth does good in those corpo meetings, like the loud kid in your group that repeats your jokes so you get the big laughs. I don't think Family guy can be compared to the writing of Smiling friends, they don't function the same. FG is made to print money, an easily replicated format that's tried and tested. SF has a smaller team, more animation and details focus, substance over runtime. I genuinely don't think I've sat through a single episode of FG. Whereas SF is so Internet brainrot that you can get through the whole season and STILL be wanting more. And that's where they differ in my opinion.

Go support my new video, it's an honest to god critique of Smiling Friends! ruclips.net/video/qv0cCqCAxvI/видео.html&ab_channel=MrBooone
Family guy is just… it’s much, with the politics and consistent gore… it’s just not “funny”
The lack if Xavier renegade angel in the intro is a crime
@@teaman4698 Oh man, trust me, I wish I could have included more. But then I’d just be naming every show on adultswim 😂
@MrBooone fair enough
To shorten it down, it’s because it’s a genuinely better show.
Family Guy has become more mean spirited recently.
0:10 MORAL OREL❤❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉
@@xxvioletvinesxx8375 so damn good
Dont even need to watch the video: family guy is mean spirited with horibly flanderized characters and dosent know how to tell a joke beyond making fun of groups of people.
Smiling friends is about some silly lil dudes in silly lil fucked up situations tryna make people smile
Well you'd be missing out on my silly editing, but I get it tho. Thanks for the engagement~!
What if I said that I love both?
This is the first non-dead by daylight video ive watched all day and somehow it still mentioned dead by daylight 😭
I love family guy, the earlier seasons hold a great place in my heart. I think the problem with family guy now is that they’re trying too hard to be funny, By using dark humor and gore. What was so great about the earlier seasons was that the funnyness came from the relatability.
I miss Mike tyson mystery team
Most people like Family Guy actually.

Family Guy is hated because it’s overstayed its welcome lol.
FAIR lmao
What was that show with The Pope?
Xavier Renegade Angel
@samuraijackoff5354 Thank you!
Because it was made by passionate people, who spend time and effort to make unique and funny stories instead of being family guy?
Peter in the thumbnail??
8:13 WHAT!!!??
Idk if anyone will agree with me but the early seasons of Family Guy were more earnest, a spoof of the average American family and pop culture.
Then they became super mean spirited, Lois became slutty, Peter was just a dick, Meg was abused relentlessly… they went from the average family to white trash.
And some of that is fine in small doses, but seriously the characters changed dramatically from the early seasons.
BallMastrz:9009 best adult swim show
I think both are still pretty amazing in my opinion
Holy crap Lois this is almost as bad as that one time we were compared to Smiling Friends
Feels like Family Guy has been on auto pilot since season 4
i think tf2 could also fall into the category of “silly, goofy franchise with occasional moments of seriousness”
Wdym modern family is hated?!
Edit: bad joke i know
@@BreadSourdoughBaguette frickin sweet joke *peter laugh*
It could be also that the humor has just run out with those characters. In elementary school I watched family guy I had one of their games one other playstation 2 and now I will be 30 next year. Its been a literal 20+ years the same formula jokes were gonna die eventually.
Luv u, MrBooone
@@DarkFox2070 hell yeah brother !!
holy crap Lois I'm in the hit show smiling friends!
People will compare any adult cartoon with an edge and cuss words to family guy. I’ve seen people compare has in hotel to family guy and the only thing they have in common is the cussing and show tunes. Adult animation is sadly tied to this god forsaken show and no one will let it die, even the people who are sick of it.
i feel like family guy isn’t hated that much
I still love modern family guy it is genuinely entertaining
Seth does good in those corpo meetings, like the loud kid in your group that repeats your jokes so you get the big laughs. I don't think Family guy can be compared to the writing of Smiling friends, they don't function the same. FG is made to print money, an easily replicated format that's tried and tested. SF has a smaller team, more animation and details focus, substance over runtime. I genuinely don't think I've sat through a single episode of FG. Whereas SF is so Internet brainrot that you can get through the whole season and STILL be wanting more. And that's where they differ in my opinion.
Family Guy’s first 4-5 seasons were peak
For me seasons 3-6 was the peak, specifically the second half of season 3 to near the tail end of season 6
