He was hurting, and following his older cousin set up, also finding out that Eric was part of this society, he is only 16 years old with lots on his shoulders, it was probably the first time he has ever done it. He was hoping by taking the drugs and booze that his pain would go away just for a little while, so please cut him some slack, Simon should never have stolen the drugs from his father, he dosent take them but yet he steals them Common sense didn't prevail then for Simon, just like it didn't for Wilhelm 😢

And August's financial problems are 100% his own fault. All he has to do is sell a piece of art (his mom suggested that amongst other options), but he's too determined to keep up appearances of being ultra wealthy, and he's making it everyone else's problem. He also could've asked for help from his relatives since they're literal royalty, but no. Him releasing the tape (and taping Wilhelm and Simon in and of itself) was not only unforgivable, but criminal. I hate him. And they haven't labeled Wilhelm's sexuality.
It worries me when people sympathize so much with a character who was established from episode 1 to be a misogynistic, classist, narcissistic bully. It's rare for me to hate a fictional villain as much as I hate him. Spying on people like that is sick, but then recording them is completely deranged. That's not just "some art", it's the physical representation of his dad's legacy to him. So of fucking course he's not selling it, it would just make his mental health so much worse to even try to. I hate him. But that is the ONE THING I understand of his actions, the not selling anything of his father's belongings. For him, they are all that's left of him. But he still comes from EXTREME privilege and is making it everyone else's problem. I really enjoyed Felice’s character in the show. It’s so refreshing to see her character archetype actually be a nice girl. She actually is so kind hearted and a good friend and only has a bad moment episode 1. In any other show she would have been so mean because “the pressure from her parents”. but this writers didn’t excuse bad behavior they just made her a good person. I love seeing her character growth and her become more confident in season 2
When it comes to Lucia, it comes from a tale of Saint Lucia helping sick/poor people and she carried her lights on her head to keep her hands free so she could help the people. Being Lucia is one of, if not THE biggest honor as a choir kid to get to be (I myself have been Lucia two times at 15 and 16) and it can cause jealousy between girls if there's many that want to be it. Lucia "trains" as we call them, is a tradition that starts in daycare and then goes on until you graduate 9th grade or "gymnasiet" when you get kicked out of the "art school for kids/teens" (that many go to outside of school) for being too old. 9th grade (age 15) is the end of mandytory school and "gymnasiet" (ages 16 to 19) is the name of our high school which is at times more of a mix between high school and college, which isn't mandatory and you have to apply to. Sorry for the rant and i've kind of forgotten why I started this rant.

He is not inheriting a company per se but an estate... houses, land, art etc. Even if was a company ... he would not need to sell it all to pay one semester's tuition. His situation is his own doing. Also, remember where nobility is concerned the son would inherit and then he takes care of the family ( mother siblings etc.) So August is in charge of his finances as his mom said he could sell 1 Piece of art ONE ... and pay his tuition 10 times over.

I did 7 months as part of a gap year in Wales working with people with learning disabilities and the place followed the teachings of Karl König and Rudolf Steiner with its own form of Christianity and weird ways they did services and decorated the Christmas tree. We also did Santa Lucia there, sung a song in the choir which I can still remember a few lines of many years later and I also had to bake a few hundred currant buns to give out to everyone there. There was a ceremony like in Young Royals where I wore white but pretty sure I carried a candle and didn’t have anything on my head and I think there were four of us all together.

I guess I'm one of the few who know a little bit about the tradition of Lucia (Lu-cee-ah), at least a child's version. I grew up in Minnesota where a large number of Swedish and Norwegian immigrants settled. Every year in elementary school, we made construction paper crowns with candles to wear in December and sang songs. We also learned about the Dutch children leaving their shoes out for Sinterklaas.

What August did was horrible, first filming them, and then uploading it, and I think he did upload it, because at that moment he was angry at Wilhelm for outing his financial situation/put him in a bad light so to speak(he could have sold some of their stuff to pay himself, but was too proud to do so), and he didn't think Wilhelm took his role/status serious enough. I feel bad for Alexander with them using him as a scapegoat. I love that Sara became Lucia instead of Felice, when Felice didn't want to, and didn't let her mom pressure her into it/told her off. Sara looks so pretty. Lucia is a parade of people holding candles and singing a song to celebrate the light and the saint of light Lucia. We also do that in Denmark.
August is a really interesting character. Because there is a lot of pressure on him and he definitely has many issues - I think among others some kind of eating disorder. So you can empathize with certain circumstances of his. But his entitlement and reasoning and his subsequent actions are beyond fucked up. He is so impulsive and he cares about status beyond anything. And he doesn't really care who he hurts in the process to getting what he believes he deserves. Also, I don't really think August feels bad about the video in the long run. Which just shows how selfish he is.
totally agree with every word that you said (also the eating disorder, it's really subtle but the way he looks at himself in the mirror and picks his skin...that's kinda too familiar to me - I'm on recovery-. ALSO he is ALWAYS working out, ALWAYS. I think that's also a part of it). But as you say, it does not justify his actions and attitude. A lot of people go through sh!t, even the same problems as August, but they would NEVER do the things that he does.
What people miss sometimes that August's tuition/school fee issue was also his fault, he could sell some of his family stuffs as his mother suggested but he was too proud, as much he was risking his education for it. So yeah that too is his fault. Also if you watch season 2, there's no character arc for that boy, he keeps getting worse, I do not feel 1 bit sorry for him because he keeps doing f-ed up things and get away with it,just not get away even getting rewarded for it. And about his dad's death issue,yes it's a traumatic thing in his life but no amount of trauma gives anyone any right to do horrible things to others.

It’s pronounced SEE-monn with a short European/British ‘o’ and emphasis on the first syllable which is different than what you’re used to as I’ve noticed Americans tend to emphasise the second syllable in words when other English speakers do the first. Think someone mentioned on another video but if you pronounced it like you would say sea monster without the ‘ster’ that would be close enough 😊. Looking forward to the finale and then season 2- thrilled with how quickly you’re getting these out!
He's not going to "lose the crown" if he gets kicked out of school for drugs. Be for freaking real. It's doubtful he'd even get kicked out. He'd probably get a slap on the wrist. Nothing in his privileged life would *really* change. People in power very rarely have any serious consequences. Getting a prestigious education could have a real impact on Simone's life so getting kicked out, which he most likely would be since neither he nor his family have any real power, could have a serious effect on the rest of his life.

I think people forget that the recording is child pornography. That is a major crime. Years and years in prison.

I guess I'm one of the few who know a little bit about the tradition of Lucia (Lu-cee-ah), at least a child's version. I grew up in Minnesota where a large number of Swedish and Norwegian immigrants settled. Every year in elementary school, we made construction paper crowns with candles to wear in December and sang songs. We also learned about the Dutch children leaving their shoes out for Sinterklaas.

What August did was horrible, first filming them, and then uploading it, and I think he did upload it, because at that moment he was angry at Wilhelm for outing his financial situation/put him in a bad light so to speak(he could have sold some of their stuff to pay himself, but was too proud to do so), and he didn't think Wilhelm took his role/status serious enough. I feel bad for Alexander with them using him as a scapegoat. I love that Sara became Lucia instead of Felice, when Felice didn't want to, and didn't let her mom pressure her into it/told her off. Sara looks so pretty. Lucia is a parade of people holding candles and singing a song to celebrate the light and the saint of light Lucia. We also do that in Denmark.

August is a really interesting character. Because there is a lot of pressure on him and he definitely has many issues - I think among others some kind of eating disorder. So you can empathize with certain circumstances of his. But his entitlement and reasoning and his subsequent actions are beyond fucked up. He is so impulsive and he cares about status beyond anything. And he doesn't really care who he hurts in the process to getting what he believes he deserves.
Also, I don't really think August feels bad about the video in the long run. Which just shows how selfish he is.
totally agree with every word that you said (also the eating disorder, it's really subtle but the way he looks at himself in the mirror and picks his skin...that's kinda too familiar to me - I'm on recovery-. ALSO he is ALWAYS working out, ALWAYS. I think that's also a part of it).
But as you say, it does not justify his actions and attitude. A lot of people go through sh!t, even the same problems as August, but they would NEVER do the things that he does.
What people miss sometimes that August's tuition/school fee issue was also his fault, he could sell some of his family stuffs as his mother suggested but he was too proud, as much he was risking his education for it. So yeah that too is his fault. Also if you watch season 2, there's no character arc for that boy, he keeps getting worse, I do not feel 1 bit sorry for him because he keeps doing f-ed up things and get away with it,just not get away even getting rewarded for it.
And about his dad's death issue,yes it's a traumatic thing in his life but no amount of trauma gives anyone any right to do horrible things to others.
He wasn't "too proud" they literally talk about selling his father's "old stuff". It's not pride, it's trauma. It's grief and loss.
@@deancontiwriter13 in that old stuff there were lot of things including land not just materials, if a situation occurs where one can't even study because of money issues im sure he could do something. He wasn't able to accept the fact he was in a condition where he needed to do that and that's pride! I'm not saying he needed to sell his father's favourite art or something.

I don't feel even slightly bad for August. His mum said there are paintings and such things at Arnas that he could sell for money, and he refuses to do that. He hasn't "fallen on hard times" like normal middle class people do. He is just being a brat.

If you want to see a Swedish film classic in the same setting watch "Ondskan" (Evil). It was nominated for an Oscar when it came out and won several film prizes in Sweden. (Previously recommended "Ego"(a lot like "Me before You") and "A man called Ove".

I was like everytime Simon and Wilhelm get together Zuff is always saying "that's dangerous to the Crown." I was like if he say that shit one more time. Why would the relationship be perfect if he wasn't the upcoming king. That makes no sense at all!
actually, I couldn't finish this season when I first watched it (not that I rewatched tho) because it was too much to me. It took me almost a year to watch the last episode because of what August did, LI TE RA LLY. I just finished it to watch the second one, glad I did tho ahsh
Love your reactions as always. Just one comment- it’s several episodes in now and you’re still pronouncing it Simone. It’s pronounced SEE-monn with a short European/British ‘o’ and emphasis on the first syllable which is different than what you’re used to as I’ve noticed Americans tend to emphasise the second syllable in words when other English speakers do the first. Think someone mentioned on another video but if you pronounced it like you would say sea monster without the ‘ster’ that would be close enough 😊. Looking forward to the finale and then season 2- thrilled with how quickly you’re getting these out!
He's not going to "lose the crown" if he gets kicked out of school for drugs. Be for freaking real. It's doubtful he'd even get kicked out. He'd probably get a slap on the wrist. Nothing in his privileged life would *really* change. People in power very rarely have any serious consequences. Getting a prestigious education could have a real impact on Simone's life so getting kicked out, which he most likely would be since neither he nor his family have any real power, could have a serious effect on the rest of his life.

The h is heavily accented in German, slightly less so in Swedish, but you can still hear it clearly. Willem with no ‘h’ is Dutch. Google ‘wilhelm pronunciation swedish’ to hear audio examples.
