Me again lol. I think this was my favorite ep so far. Loved seeing the comedic relief and non threatening male character of Randy be able to be a fully fleshed out character and one that includes traditionally masculine traits. Not that it matters but I’m happy he didn’t fall into the McGee trap. I can see Randy as the nice guy and also a guy not to be messed with which I think makes the show a lot better. However, it’s another shift in tone. Just not sure how many episodes they can do this for? At its core what is the show? Procedurals normally do not have this issue so I’ll be interested to see it a more natural rhythm comes about. Look forward to seeing your reaction videos. 👍🏻
All good, thanks for the comments! I also really liked getting to learn more about who Randy is. I agree that I think it's good that he wasn't a copy/paste version of McGee. I love McGee, but I wanted something new for NCIS: Origins and I think they did a good job with Randy. I would agree that this episode had a tonal shift, but not as jarring as the episode with Lala. This episode felt like it still had the through line of Gibbs and his family, which I think Lala's episode didn't have as much, which made that episode feel more sudden. I love getting to meet the new characters like Randy and Lala, but I think the core of the show is still Gibbs and his family. This show definitely feels like that is the driving force. I do hope that they continue the show after we feel like we get a good resolve for Gibbs, which I don't even know if we can because that's a struggle that Gibbs has in the original show. But somehow the characters will need to grow. I think that's what kills tv shows is when the characters don't learn anything new or grow. NCIS Origins feels more like a streaming show that would come out with a limited amount of episodes and have a contained story that the creators would want to flesh out in like eight episodes. I think there is hope for the show to continue past a limited amount of episodes and past the starting story of Gibbs and his family. I just don't know how they'll do it at this point, because a lot of the episodes revolve so much around Gibbs. But I feel like the creators could accomplish this because I like the series so far...
