The inclusion of the speed runner interviews elevates Speed Docs to the top of my list for the genre. The interviews provide the human element to the story and great insight into the task speed runners face. I look forward to the next installment from the Speed Docs team.
>the human element So you're saying Speed Docs has finally recreated Todd Todgers' fabled technique for beating a game faster than physically possible?
This channel is so undderated. The production quality is way beyond that of a channel with less than 50k subs. Hope you keep growing and more people recognize how great this is.
@@Wieprzek All those people who watched a twitch streamer react instead of watching the video themselves. It's basically giving the people who already have a ton of viewers more viewers without them having to do any work. A video like this isn't like a game, no one is going to go watch another hour and thirty minute long video and give the actual creator the views they deserve while when streamers play games, people watching will more likely want to play. Jay Exci did an excellent video on reaction content a few months back, and he showed there was no significant boost in the metrics RUclips uses after Hasan watched his video. Imagine the hours spent on a video like this, only for a twitch streams with thousands of viewers who would have watched this video, and that streamer profits off of doing none of the work besides sitting and watching a RUclips video.
During the Jak 2 Any% Tournament, Ouiji and Headstrong faced off in round 4. Headstrong ended up winning 56:35 to 56:51 in a race that never saw the 2 separated by more than 30 seconds throughout the game. They later faced each other in the Grand Finals where Headstrong also took the victory to take a clean sweep of the tournament. ruclips.net/video/wvjwy4fHK9M/видео.html for the round 4 race between HS and Ouiji.
Fun fact, Lapogne36 has had a hand in breaking down so many speedgames back in the day. I was researching for a project on Blue Dragon, and he ended up being a major contributor for strategies that were way ahead of its time. Truly a speedrunning legend who deserves more attention
Speedrunning before the speedrunning era was quite something, there was no route and the only limit when creating the first one was your own creativity.
I just found this channel. I can't get enough. You go so in depth, interviews, explanations. Just amazing. I really hope more is to come. Definitely my new favorite channel. 🤘🔥
I hope this video climps more. Me and my brother (we are now 26 &25) played the JaK series. We were not allowed to buy so luch games. Back then you could rent Games like DVDs. So we always had a week or so to play it. (bdw. The german dub of this game is nice) It was a good time. Our father played with us and helped us with hard sections.
36k subs is so low for a channel of this quality, one of my favourite speed running channels. The vids are so detailed, brilliantly scripted and created.
This was super interesting, the various game breaking glitches were awesome to see. Thank you speed docs for your research and video presentation, I love to learn about games I might not have otherwise.
YESSSS! I don't know why, I just think it's so cool that Headstrong was the first to get sub-one-hour in both Jak 1 and Jak 2. Having it be the same person for that specific goal is amazing!
Speed docs, tha rixer, ect...do such an awesome job the speed run that don't get enough credit ot maybe aren't as popular but are very skill dependent. Another great job guys
my brother used to speedrun this game and it always made me laugh watching jak fly off the map w the infinite hoverboard glitch. great job on the run guys it brought back some good memories!
I love speedrunning so much as a concept because it really combines sport and art. Few mediums can do that- For instance, figure skating, and slam poetry. But the interesting thing about speedrunning is how the art and the sport are made by completely different teams. You can for sure argue that any sport is its own art form and entertainment- such as professional wrestling-, but I think the confluence of a created artwork and the skill of competition comes together in an interesting and fun way with speedrunning especially.
Love this series, love your channel. Excellent work as always. Will be watching this at least another couple dozen times in the future just like with your other speed docs
I only had a vague idea of speedrunning, but played Jak II when it was released. Really cool to see the game from the perspective of this surreal sport.
It's always weird to see speed running RUclipsrs talk about other speedrunning RUclipsrs in terms of their speedrunning. When you brought up ThaRixer I was briefly confused for a second.
Im missing your vids bro! They were all so legendary and helped me get through some dark times ^^ Then I even had the honor to actually meet you on the pokemon Snap discord. It felt amazing to meet someone after watching all their vids for years. I hope you're doing well and are following your dreams!
As far as I remember, there were no other runs at the time beside Mkt2015's one. While the Mar's tomb skip was known for some time, I had to find my way through the red and yellow barriers, which I eventually found after some trial and errors. Fun fact, my run was rejected on SDA because it wasn't "good enough", and to this day the 4h42 is still the current SDA run.
That’s actually crazy that you cracked both barrier skips on your own when there was no one else to workshop skips with. Mars Tomb Skip is so heavily associated with the barrier skips nowadays that it never even occurred to me that anyone would have done this sequence break without them. You probably set this games route forward a year with those two OoBs alone. I don’t doubt Tomjak would have found them when he started but it’s cool that the first ever single segment run laid down such a foundation. You also did the first Jak 3 run if I recall correctly? If you have the time, you should reach out to ThaRixer at some point. He would probably be interested in documenting your insights from that game for a future video project.
Ben's hubris is hysterical after how thoroughly his TPL segmented run was trounced. Though I suppose credit where credit is due, good for him being the first to run it
I eagerly await the (eventual) installment of Jak 3 in this series, presuming it's on the agenda. Should I have gone to bed three hours ago? Yeah, probably. Guess this multi-part insight into one of my favorite game series was too good to pass up
