One third of the way through is 19" for me. My stick is not just for walking, or for fighting, it measures. Fold your elbow with the palming slide forward grip you described. It'll be slightly shorter, because you have muscles, and shoulders, but it'll be close to, but not quite 1/3.

For my DIY walking stick, I picked up a wooden knob from Hobby Lobby about the size of a doorknob. Used a paddle bit to drill a hole and cleaned the hole out. Then I used wood glue to attach it to the dowel rod and stuck a rubber foot on the tip. It now looks like a walking stick and I have something to grab on to while using it as a cane.
About a year, maybe two, ago my wife and I were out for a walk. When we got near a pond, a goose came out having a fit. I assume we were near a nest with eggs. In this scenario a stick would be good to keep between you and wild life.

@vincewong6367 I'm 5' foot 6 inches My homemade stick is 36.5". I have a Cold Steel Walkabout, I believe, is 39". I prefer the shorter stick, but I have had a need to shorten the Cold Steel walkabout.

10:35 Tung Oil! Care for your stick and your stick will care for you! 24 hours between coats. I try to do it every day, but I don't. Watching MP is like watching Priests conduct Prayer. It is a reminder. Pray! and oil your stick!

The walking stick surely looks like you have a weapon. A cane or standard taller walking/hiking stick looks less weapon-like and offers more versatility.

Consider that, after we have successfully defended ourselves, it may be in our best interest to call 911 and report this incident BEFORE our assailant or his friends call 911 to complain that we brutally attacked the poor victim with our deadly weapon-stick.

Good point. But do not speak to law enforcement until you speak with your attorney. Just tell them that he attacked you. I’m not an attorney but I do know that the police can lie to you and that prosecutors will certainly lie if it is in their political interest to do so.

@@pasquinilli in a situation where we do have to use a fighting stick ,home invasion, stranger in a parking lot begging for money/groceries becoming too pushy perhaps it might be a good idea to destroy the other person's cell phone? To eliminate and video footage that could be used against you?

I wonder if an inch is too thick. The more I walk, and play, by whipping the stick around. I wondered at first if the hickory stick would be strong enough to smash against an oak tree at 7/8" dia. Then I realized. I'm not in the motion to break a stick against an oak tree. I'm in the martial mind to whip it up with a backhanded spin and break your rib cage. Or, at the very least, knock the wind out of you. We have demonstrations where people break the wooden boards, or have the stick broken across them. That is one way of thinking. Then there's another way of thinking. The man with a stick, and the man without one.

This kind of technics could be deadly or with heavy injury. In Germany this could cause in most cases legal problems. Be aware. Nevertheless thank you for your video instructions.

13:48 To be clear. I should have ordered the 1" dia. It would have been a better choice than 7/8". Then again, I probably should be walking with a FN-FAL or G3 instead of the .380. No, that would be a bit much. America will reconstitute the Militia. I showed my stick. They laughed. It was smaller than the handles of their rakes and shovels. I might even be able to block it, and ride my elbow into your face. That is not he point. Everything is Martial if you permit yourself a martial thought per day.

21:43 Shit. You're about to spin and whip. That is not a great position for an attacker. You can slide the initial reverse grip far forward like a fist, and swing your body with the second hand, keeping the stick close to the point of origin, like a two handed long stick baseball bat. One circle step backwards, and you are moving, while delivering force off the centerline. Crackhead might have just gotten his head caved in. From a distance.
