Estancia San Lorenzo is located within the Peninsula Valdes Natural Protected Area, 160
kilometers from the city of Puerto Madryn, in the province of Chubut, in the Argentine
Patagonia. On its coasts there is a colony of more than 600,000 Magellanic penguins that can
be visited between September 7 and March 31 each year.
The varied South Atlantic coastline in Argentina is home to thousands of different marine animal
colonies. Due to the convergence of several ocean currents, and the relatively low level of sea
traffic and fishing, the sea is still rich in plankton, seaweed, fish and jellyfish. This, in turn, attracts
a huge number of marine mammals and birds to the area.
