I don’t think people realize the sheer amount of incompetence the lions had from 98-2010 and the how cursed the 2010s felt. Like this team was either a joke or historically unlucky for so long. So just to see them playing disciplined smart football consistently is incredible let alone making it this far. Something ive never seen before.
Not to mention the many many botched nfl ref calls and rule changes that were involved with us. It felt like hell. I’m so grateful rn to be a lions fan 26 years since birth

I loved Dan Campbell initial press conference and meeting with the plant workers and meeting with the fans. He was talking directly to Detroit and no one else.

I’m not quite sure what Jason is talking about, sorry. As a Lions season ticket holder, every fan I know loved Dan’s first press conference. It gave us ‘96-‘97 Red Wings vibes and we were in!
I’m pretty sure it was people from outside of Michigan that didn’t get our vibe that laughed.
Just for random context… the year the “Dead Wings” went ruthless & finally made the Finals: the Detroit News literally published a wanted poster of Lemieux on its front page, our coach got into screaming fights with multiple opposing coaches, the Avs had to be escorted to Joe Louis by police, multiple goalies got into straight up bloody fist fights, and more. So, kneecap biting talk might be tame in comparison 😂

I was born in Detroit in 1991, I have never seen my Lions do this good my whole life. This teams culture embodies the city of Detroit! I’ve been in auto manufacturing my whole life. Blue collar and gritty is what this city is about! Headed to the watch party at ford field It’s gonna be lit! Go Lions!

As a Lions fan I can honestly say - and it took, almost, to age 72 to say this - if we lose this game there REALLY is next year. This team is built Ford - and mostly Campbell - tough. This team represents an entirely new, winning culture in Detroit. That culture will be there next year. This is the beginning of a new era for Lions football - finally. Go Lions.
I appreciate Kyle's sentiment so much. It's been driving me crazy this week to see the Lions called the Cinderella story. They are not a Cinderella story. This is a team packed with talent who finished 12-5, won their division with two weeks to go after being favored to start the season, top 5 offense in the NFL, won two playoff games to now be at 14 wins which is the most in franchise history. They are 22-7 across the past 29 games, this is not a flash in the pan. This is who they are now based on the way they have built this team. The Lions are good now, and this is the beginning of it.

The amount of Honolulu blue in the 49ers stadium this Sunday is not going to be a little. You will hear the support this team has on the broadcast and the Niners will definitely hear them in that stadium.

I’ve managed my expectations all season because we are the Lions, and I had considered 1 playoff win to be a huge success for this new team
But now we’ve made history with 2 playoff wins and there’s nothing more to expect other than Super Bowl. Teams don’t get this far on a fluke, any of these 4 teams could win. No more looking at the past, this is the future. Brand New Lions.

I love watching the nation embrace the lions, as a Michigan native they’ve been my team since I could cognitively process such a thing. Not only is it a great feeling to be so proud of MY team, but I love watching the nation embrace them. They are great men, they bled for this. They deserve every bit of this success. Especially Jared Goff. The noise he blocked out was louder than ford field last weekend. And it lasted a year and a half. Go Lions, why not us!?

I was living in DC and my boss gave me tickets to that Lions-Redskins tilt. Sat basically in the very last row of RFK, but near midfield. When Green took that pick to the house the stadium was *swaying* from the crowd. Insane spectacle.

The last time the Detroit lions were in the NFC championship game. I was a year and a half old lol I am rooting for Detroit however, I think San Francisco will win but they struggled more than I thought they would last week against Green Bay so who knows anything can happen in a one game situation.

Let's face the truth. Despite their finish last season, most people still didn't believe in this team, particularly outside Detroit. People still considered Dan Campbell a buffoon. People said the Lions botched the NFL draft in 2023, and that their rookie class was not going to contribute. People said Jared Goff was still a place holder QB and couldn't get the Lions into the playoffs. And now, the Lions and their fans have one thing to say......."HOW DO YOU LIKE ME NOW?"

Jared Goff and Brock Purdy can have their defining moment depending on how this game goes. It will solidify their narrative amongst the media and most fans.

I predicted when Dan Campbell was hired and I saw a couple of his interviews and got a sense of his leadership and motivation skills that he was going to get the Lions to seriously contend but he did it one year faster than I guessed. I hadn't really been a Lions fan from the time Barry Sanders retired until Campbell was hired but I'm so happy for all those who have felt the painful losses as hard as I have taken Michigan losses over the years.
This video was definitely not about Washington, but seeing footage of the '91 NFC Championship game brought back so many memories. Now all Redskins fans have now is misery!
Josh gets it.. People want to go because for the past 6 months, whether we realized it or not, SE Michigan has been at the center of the football world, both pro and college level. This an area that has been joked about, walked over, come up just short and now people want something to believe in. By God, we've found it in the Wolverines and Dan Campbell's team and we're riding this wave to the end.

What's so promising to me as a long-suffering Lions fan is how sustainable this feels. They've done it 100% organically, and yes it's going to get tough in a few years when all these young studs have to get paid, but as long as this head coach and this ownership team are in place the Lions have a true contender.

I'm pulling for Detroit as a chiefs fan whose extended family lives in Michigan. Dream scenario if they both win.
Half way through last season, most of the talking heads were declaring Campbell a failure. But as a Lions fan, you had to be a connoisseur of losses. And if you were watching that 1-6 Lions team, you could see the winning team hidden in those losses. They were barely losing to great teams playing at a high level by 4 points or less. I have really loved this playoff run!
I almost cried when they won their first play off game and I would laugh at people who cried over sports. I just sat there in disbelief for like 20 minutes. Because it was something I’ve never been used to, I’ve watched them fail for twelve years ( young fan). This means everything to us.
As a Cowboys fan, i want to run back the tape of the 2015 Wild Card game! I was at that game, and it was awesome 🤣.

The NFL community at large has a general idea of what this means in the context of the Lions specifically, but those who may be less familiar with other sports may not realize how badly needed this is for Detroit sports fans in general.
For much of my life, as long as I wasn't picky about WHICH Detroit team I was rooting for, SOMEBODY local gave me something to get excited about, from roughly '83-'13. But collectively, the past decade is arguably the worst in Detroit sports history.

As a Lions fan(born in 98) this is best Lions team I’ve ever seen.
I dont think the average fan really understands how good of a positiion this franchise is in. This is an incomplete roster thats still very young. Thats why im not trippin about this game. Lions are way ahead of schedule.
They're really good, but getting to the Super Bowl is super hard to do. As a Bengals fan, I hope the Lions make it, it was kind of surreal as a fans seeing the Bengals make it, and I think it would be similar for Detroit and their fans. Once your team makes it you realize how hard it is to get there, all the obstacles, the close wins. I think they can beat San Fran but it's going to take a great effort by Detroit. I'd give Gibbs the ball a lot!
