Love this!! PA is a beautiful state with phenomenal hunting opportunities. Congrats Jeff Jen and Dylan!!
Thank you very much Allie...boy we loved coming out there to hunt!! Looking forward to the next time we can run into you and Nick!
Thanks for coming to PA
We sure love it Wade!
Great advice!
Thanks a lot Jacob!
Awesome. Congratulations 🙌
Thanks Mark!
So show up early OPENING DAY, walk 3 miles back, wait for LAZY hunters to push deer back to you. Great video as always. Nice State land buck for sure.
Thank you! It works well...just need to find a combination of remote funnels!
The “Big Woods” of Pa. Is a special place. You could tell in your voice how you really enjoyed your hunt !
It sure is Greg...and man when I don't go for a year, I miss it pretty bad!
Great video… nice buck
Thanks a lot Tom!
Nice😊
Thank you
Just got a doe in the same forest and day two as well! I love the Allegheny National Forest.
That's awesome...congrats!
Such a beautiful place...
Thanks very much. Congratulations to you as well. Many more to come.
Thanks Jeff
You are very welcome!
Cool vid Jeff!! Looks like a great time with friends!!
It was a special time Brian!
Nice Buck! Do you ever use a Tree climber Stand on these hunts?
I sure have in the past! I get up pretty high. Jus depends on how much stuff I'm bringing in with me and if I can setup the day before or not. More often than not...
I’m 73 years old and we have a hunting camp just north of Marionville and just south of Kane about in the middle we’ve been going there my uncles started in the late 40s and we’ve been hunting ever since love those big woods
So awesome John...I know that area a bit!
What are some ways of identifying overlooked pieces of land that are home to deer?
Getting away from people, hunting near small towns of 10-15k or less. Hunting large tracts of state or public land that are 10s of thousands of acres. I've found that incredibly easy to find in MI, OH and PA...and rarely see another hunter. Since the 80s now...
Where I usually hunt it's a 45 min to hit walk in with either hills or swamps. Unmarked trails mostly. That takes care of 90% of all hunters...
I live here in S. W. IL and yes it is very expensive to come hunt here if your out of State. I found out MO is about $250 I wanted to go hunt there at 2 properties with my uncle but just couldn't swing it
Just subbed, first timer here, spent about 4 hours a day from Monday to today. Had a doe come up over the hill towards me. That's about all. Although fun, I have much to learn.
Really appreciate having you Bob! Good luck the rest of the season and I hope all the info helps you out!
Great Video Buddy!
Thanks Buddy...when you coming!? Hopefully next year
lets plan it.... @@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751
Congrats again, Jeff. What are you using for a rifle and optic? My deer gun is an early 2000s US made Model 70 sporter in .270 with a Nikon buckmaster 6-18. Love the rifle but I don’t like the scope in low light. Can you recommend an optic?
That's a good rifle! That rifle I used in PA was a Browning in 6.5. More Important than the rifle is the scope! Unfortunately you very much get what you pay for in optics. I've seen the guys in PA deer camp taking a $75 Tasco off of a $1000 Weatherby and cooking the scope in the oven to get the moisture out during a rainy day! Would have been a better investment to put a $900 scope on a $200 single shot H&R at the time. Crazy!
That scope is a Vortex 3-15x50 Razor HD. Expensive, but way more important than the gun...or caliber, to a point. Best warranty in optics too!
@@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 thanks for your time Jeff. Hoping I get a chance to get out a bit this coming week and hunt the big 10pt I jumped out of the brush at my place opening morning. Amateur move. Got anxious and decided to change spots at 9:00am. I know for a fact he ran to the neighbors and someone shot and missed. We’ve had him on trail cams around here pretty regular so I’m hoping by staying away from there for a while he feels comfortable coming back. Fingers crossed.
I love everything Jeff posts but this is exactly what I need! Anyone know if videos of rhe hunts that roll in the background as b roll for the video are posted anywhere? Id love to watch, especially any of the UP hunts!
Thanks Zach! I will have more if the hunt strategy for this hunt tomorrow in the vid, but within a couple of weeks we will have all 3 of my buck kills on hunt vids this year, and I am working on more (bucks, ha) may even get a couple of does on film later from WI
@@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 awesome! I've just started following and learning from you, and being I'm from the UP and living here my whole life with how often you bring it up your videos are an automatic must watch all of them!
@@zachbaij6976you might like this one if you haven't seen it!

That was an awesome video Jeff, and big time congrats on a beautiful harvest. Your words are very inspiring and motivational. It was obvious to me from your description that the trip was so much more than a hunt. It was about a distant place you love, spending time with your loved ones in a magical setting, and the sitting on the log, it’s like the refreshing of your soul! Thanks for that journey and ideas!😎👍💪🏼
Oscar I love this words... "refreshing of your soul". Amen brother, you get it and I appreciate you!
Well said Oscar
If I may ask, what makes you choose the states that you hunt in? Also, which state has been your favorite?
Hi Ronald! PA because of past family and tradition and a love for the land. WI and MN because I live along the Mississippi. MI because it's my home state, tradition and big public land where I don't see hunters. And OH because it was close, big bucks and giant public land tracts with very few hunters.
The public land near me has a hunter behind every tree😂😂😂
Definitely lots of public land out there with very few hunters!
I wouldn't go there 😁
Good morning.Still struggling here.
Good morning D...keep at it and I hope you are enjoying the hunt despite!
Same here my friend. But that’s what makes us better! And if nothing else we got more experience to add to our inventory. If nothing else we’re in the woods enjoying what God created. I’ve went all week of Ohio’s gun season except for today and I’ve only seen three “3” deer in six “6” days! Almost got a shot on a decent 6 point yesterday. It will come together for you. Remember you’re making memories. Best of luck to you!!
Congratulations Jeff that's nice PA buck !! Curious what you think about PA antler restrictions after 30 years of hunting here.
Thanks a lot! I love it...one of the reasons I go back. I was a part of a camp out there that shot 10 bucks out of 170, that were 8 points or better in 34 years. In the first 4 years of AR they shot 15 bucks 8 point or better...we shot 5 in 1 opening day. They still averaged their 5.5 bucks per gun season too! The 1 buck license did nothing...until they added the ARs. Now you have a realistic chance of seeing 3 year old+ bucks in remote locations. And there are 4 and 5 year olds running around like this one too!
Couldn't agree more Jeff. I hunt southern 2 F area we have some ag with the timber we have some nice bucks running around here. @@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751
Awesome buck Jeff ! I hunt there occasionally at the ANF myself but lately staying closer to home on the PA /Ohio border farmlands. .Amazing what can happen when a buck has a chance to grow ...
Great info. Thanks Jeff! Made the trek to NW WI public for years. Always exciting to get there and put boots on the ground. Going to eat on Saturday. Great buddies to hunt with. Luv it
Sounds awesome Mark!
What do you sit in to hunt on the ground
Hi Gary, I love our turkey hunting chairs...
There is something magical about our gun season here in PA and these mountains... I've hunted here for over 20 years now. I feel blessed to be able to get out among these mountains and put miles on my boots. I'm better at archery hunting here than gun hunting but it's still magical to me. Brings back a lot of memories of sleeping in my hunting clothes and boots when I was a kid before opening day. Thanks for the great video!
Man those have got to be such great memories! I love it 😊 and thank YOU!
I would love to go hunt in the Texas hill country where I went on my first hunts ever with my uncle who is no longer with us. My experiences there were on private high fenced exotic ranches, and my uncles own ranch, but those exotic places are insanely expensive, and my uncles place is gone, so I have wanted to plan a public land hunt out there one day.. Any time I hunt, I always find myself transported to the blind where I did my first sit with my uncle, especially in the dawn and twilight hours when the light sort of plays tricks on your eyes.. there is something magical about the brushy landscape there in the Texas hills that I keep finding myself called back to.
I love the fact that you talked about just being in an area because you love it. Doing it to get out into Gods beautiful creation. Doing it to enjoy the camaraderie that our sport brings us. Not doing it just because you’re expecting to harvest that booner. I’m so tired of hearing all the buck shaming. Yes, to each his own. But I’m sorry, if you go out to kill an animal just because of how many points it has, boy are you missing the mark. Sure it’s wonderful when you harvest a big trophy buck, it’s wonderful seeing all your hard work come together, but it’s not near as wonderful as all the other stuff that happens in between it all. The time with friends and family. The stories at the campfire. The time with you and God. Every harvest is a trophy, and every one of them should be treated as such!!
Very exciting hunting a new area not knowing what might be there. No data ,so scouting is a must. Great typical buck Jeff!!
Thanks a lot Tex...I love that challenge too! And WAY less time, money and effort than hunting private, lol
I noticed you don't let on where you are, not even the zone. I'm in 5A and I hunt public land. Very busy in my area.
If you stick into the heart of the national forest with an immediate climb from your parking spot, you eliminate most hunters...
Good morning Jeff! Love your PA hunt! After being on dozens of pack outs I highly recommend getting a set of trekking poles. They are light, compact and make the pack out so much easier. I also use mine to glass off of and you can also use them to shoot off of as well. Wisconsin was rough on me this year but heading to Kansas tomorrow!
Hi Peter! Those poles would be nice...I may have to try them sometime
That's so awesome!
I have been wanting to plan an out of state hunt for a while now. I hunt the U.P, and would you say most places are going to be a lot better than up here? I'm not looking for a booner, I'd be stoked with a 130.
Hi Joseph...I still hunt the UP every couple of years too 😊 Different but not always better. There are so many places to get away from other hunters and baiting too!
I don't think it could be said any better. It's not just about shooting a deer. About the people the places and the time spent. Getting out of the everyday grind at home as well.
Amen Neil! Appreciate your perspective...
Is that Tioga county?A guy in Tioga county New York shot a 186
No, that's in McKean. All national forest. That buck I shot is between 4 and 5 years old...kind of normal for that age in that area
Ya want to make sure ya put that tag on his ear.Violation.And they can be nasty 🤷🏻
I talked to a CO...we all good 👍 Helps the tag only has to be in the ear until you butcher it 😉 Since we did that in the field...
Perfect,Good to know.And I live here😂
First
Almost 😊
