Flavours, remember that jean desque told us years ago he can only say for definite that a flavour worked and that was vanilla for roach, personally I remember fishing and a mate was using Pol vitimo, and bagging whilst I was struggling switched to Pol vitimo and started catching, coincidence 🤔
I know flavours work 100% as when i was with marukyu way back in 2008 with roy marlow we tested it with nothing but the Amino+ liquids with no bait other than the liquids with a swarm of carp in pool 2 at the glebe also in the stock pools with & without flavours the flavoured ones won hands down!. The main key factor is you do not want to use any "Chemical" based products as they are the ones which catch the anglers!. Also you can over cook it by using too much which repels the carp rather than attracts them. Formerly doing carping years ago with a rod pod set up etc i fount that the best baits were proven timeless classics Richworth tutti frutti 10mm freezer variety & Mainline cell 10mm/flavours. My favourite hook bait which would work wonders on a big water like that with bigger carp would be the Hinders white plum & betalin boosted barrels dipped in the matching mist which throws a trail out in the water column which the carp follow down...Try it!👍.
On the subject of flavours, I only fish for barbel and chub on rivers, always used shop bought halibut type pellets and spam and done ok, but since swapping to the really smelly stuff from Vortex I’ve noticed a massive improvement, especially in flood conditions using bigger baits such as 14mm pellets.
Flavour and all kinds of additives were and are a big thing in angling!! Every tackle shop offers an awefull lot of this stuff. Wich tells you, there is no magical ingrediant out there. Best addition to your bait is confidence. Personaly I like to add soy sauce, liquid liver or other stuff, that not only adds flavour. It also changes the taste of my bait.
Hi Joe, regarding additives and flavours, personally I agree with your reasoning if everyone is using them it must cause more caution when fish approach the bait. I believe doing something different can get you those extra bites. Remember up there for thinking, down there for dancing. Don't follow the crowd.
hiya buddy! respect to you learning a different angling skill, thats whats so wonderful about our lives as anglers, different techniques, different waters, ie, canals rivers, commercials. But mate, being out of your comfort zone, and having the honestly to show vids of blanks, but there was info to learn from those. you seem impressively to have quickly picked up this new skill. and jeez hope the missus doesnt watch the videos and know about buying new rods! take care buddy and thankyou for the very good and also very informative content. thanks Joe.
Re: Additives and baits.I have always been a bit sceptical about all these so called wonderbaits an additives. There doesn't pass a week without yet another wonderbait appearing which catches you loads off fish. i have always believed in either White, Red or Yellow as the best Bait colours and Fishmeal woth a bit of sweetness added in the end of spring to mid Autumn then Mild soft flavoured additives like washed out Scopex as a fore instance. Anyway back to the fishing, I was so pleased that you changed to Wafter. Just like the Yellow or Red ones this time of year. Well done for 2nd in section. Great series with loads of info and interesting items. Well done Joe. Cheers
Good job. I’m going to miss this series. Think you should keep going until you win one 😉 On additives: as a (part time) speci carp angler, I‘d say sometimes they are good, sometimes they are bad. When the going is tough the fish sometimes shy away from overly „boosted“ baits imo
Interesting take. I have noticed on the river, when there’s a tinge of colour the more scent the bait emits the better. But cast that hook bait on a clear river and it just doesn’t work
another great film joe didnot know you put bread on will have to give that a try,i have just started using the detexion line and its working just fine at the moment and sinks well .😎
With bread I think you need a longer hair than normal, as bread swells and leaves very little gap between bread and hook. Read an article years ago by a carp angler regarding hair length and he was convinced a bigger gap between bait and hook gave a better hook hold.
Yea I have been using a longer hair and in fairness haven’t lost a fish on it. The way anglers are using bread at boddington actually means it doesn’t swell that much. Very hard compressed bread
I’ve always questioned the goo’s looks great in a tank a green hue coming up the water column but how natural is that does anything naturally do that or is it such a powerful attractant that the un-normal becomes a non issue for the fish
Well done , just shows the size of the water and time of year you can’t draw the fish so you have to draw the area they live in , try hooking the bread may be the hook hold will be better , just a thought 👍
Regards bread ... i dont think they are choosing to eat it. It is just a light, but big bait that gets sucked up while they are eating pellets (you touched on this in the first pub chat with mick). The bread goes in almost by mistake. That's why I reckon many fish are lost and hook holds can be poor. They've not specifically eaten it, or potentially tried to avoid it, but its gone in anyway and rather than confidently sit up and hook themselves, they tried to reject it early or stayed on the spot and the size of the bread then helps the hook to leave and it doesnt catch the mouth where it should, or would with a heavier bait. Okay, wafters are light, but being smaller, they dont have the same surface area to be picked up by water movement. Basically, put both in a tub of water and waft the water with your hand. The wafter hardly moves, while the bread shoots away. On the flip side, its also the reason that so many are hooked (albeit poorly sometimes) in the first place. The fish are not feeding, you just get the odd one having a taste or a drive by snack, probably sucking at the bait from a few inches above the feeder. So there's not enough "suction power" to move a wafter, but enough to move a lump of bread (with that in mind, short hooklengths are possibly another contributing factor to poor hookholds as maybe it doesnt get far enough in to start off with?).
The only thing is the anglers are using very hard compressed bread that sinks well. It fluffs up a little but nothing like the way anglers would use say bomb and bread.
Joe. High pressure does not affect the distance that you can cast. Quick Google search will give you the answers. Great result for our team despite a awful game 😊
You match boys have a lot to learn about flavours and liquids and right times of year to use them. It's no good pumping flavours and liquids in this time of year. The water isn't warm enough, especially for aminos and fishmeals. Get yourself some hemp oil and thank me later 👍
@MatchFishingFilms cell will work all year round don't get me wrong but it all depends on water temp. I find anything from 7 to 10 degrees onwards will be better for heavy liquids like cell ext, but hemp oil will always disperse in the water colum no mater water temp. I've used it to grate effect fishing for big carp in the winter. But what ever you do stay away from fishmeal type liquids. They will congeal around your method. It sits on the bottom like a thick glue not working at all.
oops sorry! not paid for 🤔 i guess youre using a NuFish prototype, which with you and mick develping them, theyll sell like hot cakes, im sure, the BLACK and YELLOW with no explanation kinda gave it away matey! but good luck in the future with the launch
I think fish 'get smart' and come to realise that flavoured bait Joe , Steve Ringer and rest of anglers are using today is best avoided. Congrats on pick up.
Hi Joe. Do do you coach in summer at SVL please? I can pass my number vial a couple of common contacts (family car / indoor BBQ). You'll be able to work this out by looking at your whatsapp user profile pics.

I’ve had many occasions where things have really impacted my day. I’ve also had many occasions where things have just been what I would expect 👍🏻
Flavours catch more anglers than fish, have been down that rabbit hole myself, never use them now.

Yes that’s been my findings too
Well done Joe, and good luck in the remainder of the river season 👏
Fingers crossed we get some improved conditions
Well done Joe, loved watching this series, 🤞🏻 for the win on your final week
Fingers crossed!
That Nufish 12ft'r looks quite similar to the original 12ft SLR.... Very interesting, look forward to seeing them on the bank
😉

I agree I prefer the natural stuff 👍🏻
Great video
Thanks!
can u show us how ur puttin bread on the method joe?

Can’t wait for the all day breakfast flavour 😂
I’ve got a lovely roast chicken one 😂
Nice one Joe , great video
Thanks 👍
Look forward to hearing more about the black & yellow carbon stick? Tight Lines Steve Amison 👍🦆🎣

Well done Joe for getting some £££ back for your hard work, Thank you.
Thanks for that!
Awesome rod and reel is my bet method any day tackling big carp well done Joe as usual
Thanks 👍
Yesss !! Some river fishing coming up soon …get in !😆
Probably won’t film it 😂
Well done m8 👏👏 , good luck on Rivers pal 🤞

Thank you!! 😊
Really enjoying this series of matches, congrats on your pick up mate 👏👍
Thanks for watching

It’s brilliant line. More and more anglers are making the switch now
Well done Joe ! 👍
Thanks 👍
Well done Jo
Hi joe you say you use bread... is it poped up or in the method. Be good to see how you load the feeder
No it’s a compressed hook bait 👍🏻
With bread I think you need a longer hair than normal, as bread swells and leaves very little gap between bread and hook. Read an article years ago by a carp angler regarding hair length and he was convinced a bigger gap between bait and hook gave a better hook hold.

It’s a weird one as it’s certainly not natural but undoubtedly that green effect works on some places
Hi Joe, you saying you're using bread on a method. Can you explain more. Do you bury the bread like you do with a wafter
Yes buried just like a wafter
Great video Joe. Can I ask what your set up is here please?
Rod and tip (oz) shock leader and braid. Cheers 👍
I did a video a few weeks back explaining it all 👍🏻
Well done Joe good effort unfortunately I blanked this week along with 50% of the other anglers.
It’s hard out there at the moment
Well done , just shows the size of the water and time of year you can’t draw the fish so you have to draw the area they live in , try hooking the bread may be the hook hold will be better , just a thought 👍
I think it would come off when making the feeder up 👍🏻

Practice makes…money!! 😂
Like 10 from Indonesian fishing ❤❤
Joe. High pressure does not affect the distance that you can cast. Quick Google search will give you the answers.
Great result for our team despite a awful game 😊
It must do something to your line though because on those days it doesn’t even want to sink and I’ve noticed it hang in the air more too
I think that colour is more important in the winter months
Possibly, the water is so chocolate there tho I do wonder if they can see anything at all
I use pineapple, marmite and scopex , I always try to use something different to everyone else, ps do you still want those little Matrix pots ?
Go catch that barble l😊❤
Will keep trying
My favourite are scopex and maple leaf sweetner
Maple is my go to for the river :)

@@BCH48 I’m happy to learn. Been using essential cell which I assumed was a nice winter sort of flavour 🤷♂️

The fish might be backing away from flavoured baits wised up
What's the rod a nufish black and yellow pal?
⚫️🟡
@MatchFishingFilms is that a yes then joe??
I like using pineapple or marmite
Flavoured baits have their place but they don't always work.

👍🏻
White and yellow best for clear water, and red and orange for coloured, flavour irrelevant, in my experience.
👍🏻
I seen money money money

Nope I need better clues than that 😂
