Premiers should play the first game against runners up in an offshore location to help promote the game internationally. For one i am sick and tired of hearing how AFL is the best game in the world but we only ever play the game in Australia the past 30 years except for a couple of made in China excursions between Port Adelaide and another team for a few years. Play last years best teams in Vegas, LA, New York or Miami. Promote it heavily and make it a blockbuster and play for points so its taken seriously. With youtube AFL has more exposure in the US now so time to have another crack at it.

As a Sydneysider, this weekend has been a great success . 2 sold out games to start the season is incredible. Also the Gold Coast sold out, The Titans had a tiny crowd the same day for their opening round.

If the Sydney teams are considered northern than surely Fremantle and West Coast are northern teams as well? Being further north than both Sydney teams.
10 out of 18 clubs are saying it was NOT a success! Don't mind giving the Northern states priority for the first round but include everyone and play most if not all days. Mon N, Thur N, Fri N, Sat D, Sat Tw, Sat N, Sun D, Sun T, Sun N. Have a "gather round" but for NSW & Qld. The draw is compromised and every team that played in the opening round has the benefits and these two represent two of those clubs so naturally they are singing its' praises.
The problem now is with opening round is treating Victorian fans as nothing but cash cows, Victorian fans should be afforded a bit more respect than that Nothing wrong with having the marquee games up North, but surely a full round can be done for the rest of the country too on the non prime time slots
Are you joking??? Victorian fans are afforded so much respect already. Like Eddie said at the start, they have the grand final until 2060. Plus every other marquee match/teams playing in that match are victorian. This is the AFL not the VFL
