The way he did this won’t tell you anything about point of impact. He basically “aimed” the shotgun at the patterning board. I can take any shotgun with a straight barrel and move it until the bead is “aimed” at the spot on the board. To do the POI test correctly, put tight chokes in the barrel, step off 15-16 yards and mount and shoot the spot 4 times JUST LIKE YOU WOULD SHOOT A BIRD OR CLAY GOING DEAD AWAY FROM YOU. DON’T aim like he did. Then look at your pattern and determine if you are shooting right where you are looking.

      * What this guy is doing is adjusting the pattern of his gun so it will throw that pattern where he wants it to go. If you don't aim the gun at a certain point, you don't know how the gun throws its pattern. Of course, his gun fits him properly to begin with, and his shooting eye is properly located. You can take any gun and move the barrel so it's pointed at the target, but can you consistently do so in a hunting situation, or in International Skeet competition where your gun is not pre mounted before the target emerges? If you do what you are saying to do, and the gun doesn't fit you, your pattern will be anywhere but where you want it to be. Your method is actually used to highlight any errors between the gun and the shooter so that corrections can be made. These errors include adjustments to the gun stock as well as any corrections needed on how the shooter shoulders his gun.
