    My Impatiens seeds are doing great. I have seedlings coming up all over my flat. They aren't ready to be transplanted into my beds yet, but so excited that they are doing well. I planted my seeds exactly the way you showed on this video and they germed within 10 days. Thanks Diane

    Getting ready to start my Impatiens from seed. Can't wait to see how they come out. This was one of my dad's favorite flowers to grow. Thanks for all you videos. Gets me in the mood to plant and grow what ever I can haha. Here in zone 7 sometimes it can be tricky to know what to grow especially with our summers here in Arkansas.
    Anyway....thanks again.

My main focus are edible's giving the direction this nation's headed in. It's been a lot of fun so far and i can't wait till i get my green house going.

    Planted 10 seeds last year I got 3 plants, planted a few this year only got 1
    I've found it easier now to grow them from cuttings but still have seeds left so I'll probably do more from seeds again. Though they are taking over the house. Came here to see how they cope outside in the winter. I'll try it, if they die off I'll just grow some more.

      yes cutting is easier if you have an existing plant.. I even had issues growing them from seed they are a trickier seed to grow.. good luck tho.. :)

    Hi Diane thanks for the video, very helpful. Question------ Is this the same as for doing new guinea impatients? the regular Impatients down here in Florida are not growing very well think there is something killing them....So would the same be for the new guinea kind.?? Also can you do a video on propergating Impatients that would be awesome???? Do you sell seeds? Thanks hun,,,, Matt FL

  • @dianemummvideos
    @dianemummvideos  11 лет назад

    well i know many have opinions on this, the reason I do this is soilless is to cut down on diseases problems.. it does help but knowing the watering needs helps too.. potting soil in my opinion would be to heavy.. you could experiment and try aerating the soil with perlite.. to lighten it... hope that helps..:)

    • @dianemummvideos
      @dianemummvideos  9 лет назад

      Vita Rider watering is one of the hardest to know when.. but I usually when growing from seed is water well in the morning , check them through the day and only water if they are feeling dry.. you can over water and cause damping off really easy, some seeds and little seedlings are more susceptible than others.. Having a good draining soil helps too.. the soil I use cuts down on disease.. it really helps.. if you are not using a mix , made for growing from seeds, it may help.. hope this helps, and I may just do a video.. thank you!

    Thanks for the video. I’m going to try these. First time starting a lot of flowers indoors but I’ve been reading a lot and I am hoping for the success with what can be a more difficult seed. Did you start them on a heat mat or cover them? The seed packet says to just pay them down and not to cover them with potting mix but it looks like that worked for you. Thanks again.

  • @dianemummvideos

    honestly it will depend on lighting, care etc.. they do grow rather fast do not keep too wet as this causes damping off issues ..

    Help? I planted Wal-Mart impaitiens seeds in two different huge pots. First we put in the gravel rocks then the organic planting soil with the compost that was included in the bag of soil. The front of our home faces east. We get a lot of shade on the front porch. I moved the pots to a place on the front porch that gets sun a few hours a day. We live in Colorado. Do you think they have a chance of sprouting and growing in flowers? Or should I dump it and start over? Thanks for any gardening help.

  • @piranhacam72
    @piranhacam72 9 лет назад +1

    Did you know that impatiens walleriana provide a generous supply of free seeds?
    It's not necessary to replant impatiens in zones where they act as annuals (i.e., in zones where they die after a hard frost). At least with impatiens walleriana, the seeds that they have self-sowed before dying will grow in the following spring IF the soil bed is undisturbed. It's okay to remove the dead plant by cutting dead vegetation at the soil level.
    See my clip on how to get free seeds: How to Harvest Free Impatiens Seeds: ruclips.net/video/Oaj5i6BgUPI/видео.html. If you collect seeds to plant for the following Spring, you must separate the seeds from the pod and let them dry before storing them in an airtight container in a cool, dry place.

    • @dianemummvideos

      Hi Jennifer, yes you can pinch back if need be.. Impatiens require moderate fertilization. Plants in containers should be fertilized approximately every 2 weeks with a water soluble fertilizer.. depends on your preference ..

    I planted impatients seeds 20days ago and they're still not germinating! They are in a flat with a transparent plastic cover on them, I make sure they are always damp. The seeds are fresh seeds from a new packet. They are in my bedroom on the southwest facing windowsill. The room is 18ºC. Is there anything I've done wrong? Or am I being impatient?

    • @dianemummvideos

      +TheTrueabundance Impatients can be tricky to germinate.. sounds like you are doing everything right.. I think some should of germinated by now.. did you barely cover the seed? no, still nothing, and yes, I barely covered the seed with just a spinkling of earth. And the top of the growing medium is going green in parts. Maybe I should just throw them out and start again?

      I just sowed mine yesterday. I didn't cover them with soil. The tray is under grow lights and on top of a heat mat. All of the petunias I sowed a couple of weeks ago germinated, so I am hoping the impatiens will too. The impatiens seeds were easier to handle, which made sowing easier.
