Not sure why this just came across my feed. I am just finishing up my first "migratory" lid build. It's way more time consuming than yours. I am working in one inch of insulation and therefore, don't have a feeder hole. I was glad I only built 10 so I didn't go over your limit to make a jig! If I make more I'm sure I can use some of your techniques to streamline. The reason I am making them is because I want to try out a 2 colony pallet that I can lift with forks on my tractor. However, as I was working thru my pallet design, I figured out how to make it and still allow me to use telescoping lids. I do have one question for you. Why do you choose not to put the cleats on the top? I am off to watch your pallet build. Thank you for showing your builds.
The cleats don’t bring a lot of value to me. They would help make my stacks a bit straighter. I’m not moving hives the thousands of miles stacked super high on semis. That’s when perfect stacks are needed.
Hey Phil, what do you dip your lids in? Here in Florida, I’ve seen coppernap. and rosin/paraffin. The pt lumber nowadays is so shitty, I’ve thought about coating the pallet runners with oil/diesel. Great video and I totally agree about using jigs. I’ll be building migratory pallets soon and have been thinking about an inclined table jig I’ve seen on some RUclips videos of shipping pallet construction. Happy Holidays🎉
I like your drill press extension gonna have to modify mine now thanks
Make sure you cut it square.
I know plywood doesn’t really have a “grain” but have found cutting the outside grain to run the long direction prevents warping better.
It’s a trade off which cuts waste the least wood. With this 3/4” material warping should be minimal.
