I remember when I found out I had ants in my house so I burnt it to the ground - it was the most economically viable solution.
What was that clip at the end?
Hey TYT. Is there a list of all the sound bytes you guys use for the show? I don't get some of them.
does anyone know where that quote at the end of the video is from..? the you dont know me quote.
"It turns out, ants."
Best non-sentence in immediate memory.
Hey, Cenk,
As someone who owns a house that was standing in the 1920s, I'm familiar with the phrase "It'd be cheaper to tear it down and start over," coming out of the mouth of a contractor. If the wiring and plumbing aren't up to code, if the windows and doors need to be replaced, if the house needs siding and insulation, etc., it all adds up pretty quickly. And ants and termites on top of that! Believe it or not, the story could actually be true.
When I was in high school there were so many problems with the school building that they had thought about making 2 other new buildings and destroying the old one to save about 4 million dollars. The only problem with that is that we were going to loose our football and soccer fields. The school was built in the 30s.
@unforgivingreality Except we're not talking about New England, we're talking about South Florida, where most houses were built after the 1950s. Houses older than that are labeled "historic."
@fuzzjunky It was Shelly Long from Cheers if I remember correctly.
The captions are hilarious.
those pics dont even look like the same property. the 1st with the mansion had no buildings around it but the 2nd pic shows 3 buildings in very close proximity..
The amazing thing is that she did all that demolition with Tiger's old 7-iron.
"You don't know me, and I, don't, know YOU"! Holy shit, i am crying so hard right now that was the funniest fucking thing i have ever heard in my life. Forever subscribed. More of that please!
What I don't buy is the termite part. Didn't her agent do the job and acquire a thorough termite report and appraisal report? After all, this is a 12M house.
As usual, Cenk is WRONG. Updating plumbing, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, electric wiring, and meeting the hurricane code is a MAJOR cost and hassle.
@NotMyBirthday How exactly did she work?
@prazi86 Umm, just because it's worth $12m doesn't make it automatically meet building requirements, and $5,000 house could meat building requirements. The house was from the 1920's, a lot has changed in 90 years.
lol I swear that rich accent Cenk uses is from Jim Backus in Gilligan's Island
I wonder if they ill figure out that it can cost more to renovate an old building than it does to build a new one.
Hearing Cenk use the word "butthurt" made me laugh so hard.
I love how the top 2 comments are exactly the same.
As for, how much the house it self might be worth, an extremely top of the line house with all the fixings would cost ~$3 million. A house built in the 1920s would likely not be worth more then $1 million. Meaning the other $11 million was the land value.
this is what I thought was going on, she bought it for the property and decided to rebuild the house as she wants it.
No one needs to live in a mansion.
Tax the mansion.
I don't even know why re-building a house was/is an issue. If she wants to spend her money that way it's her business. It's also contradictory to say on the one hand rich people should spend their money more to stimulate the economy, yet then speculate toward/critisise/judge her when the outcome is that she's contributing to the US economy by doing so. As far as I can see it's a win:win situation for everyone, other than the original house(!)
If you knock down a house that has ants and termites and you build on the same site wouldn't the displaced bugs move right back in? I really don't know; any experts out there?
Ana saying "butthurt" made my entire day
@htownmatt Most of those houses from back then are actually still structurally integral.
Are you kidding me? My house was built in the 1800's and it's still standing fine. Maybe she should just buy a whole other house?
I lived in a lot of crappy places and never had that much trouble with bugs.
all this hating on rich people is starting to get pathetic, especially when you think a women needs to lie about why she is tearing down an old out of date house. I've seen people who aren't rich do the same thing.
@Bob06460 from what i understand they would treat the property before a rebuild under those circumstances
if it were a building code issue, she would have to redesign so that it conforms to current codes. She would not be able to build it exactly the same. She can make it LOOK the same, but then it would be just spiting tiger.
"Location, location, location!"
Look at the picture of the house!! If that fails codes I will freaking... do something to demonstrate my shockedness...
So what? Do you even know how much labor is going into demolition and rebuilding that huge house?
The University of Maryland is currently in the process of tearing down it's recently renovated Presidents house at a cost of millions of dollars. The reason? So they can house more fund raisers.
Think about that, the next time your tuition goes up.
umm....anyone else notice ana's new necklace? something tells me she got a little "bonus" from Current TV.
Am i the only one who is having a good laugh every time watching this guys? lol
@Darrylizer1 You receive my Best (& funniest) Comment Award. For what it's worth. (Which unfortunately is nothing, lol. )
@TheNavigateur now that i can get behind... equal Opportunity - but not hand outs. but my original statement stands about someone who needs work doesnt care what work it is or who it is from - survival is survival
@htownmatt Um. Let's see how London does during a class 4 hurricane like they have in oh say...Florida.
You crack me up Cenk with your impressions!
@htownmatt That's because most American industries tend to do things cheaply. That's not to say they all do, in fact my grandparents' entire neighborhood is nothing but really old houses. However, I'll be the first to admit we tend to suck really bad when it comes to putting quality before money.
Wait just one second..
Did Cenk just say "butthurt" ?..
House built in 1920’s? Ninety years old - will not pass code & termites. Insurance. Plus in a re-build if you pass a certain percent of value - it MUST pass current code. Look, the beach front lot in WPB is worth a fortune. Maybe a bad investment from the beginning - but she has the cash - why not get the house you want?
She has the right to do that to fuck over Tiger. Anyone she's going to get half anyway because of what Tiger did. Well at least one good thing, there's going to be people having jobs to rebuild that house for the wood, concrete, electrical, piping, etc.
If I get ants in my room, should I buy bug spray or a bulldozer?
395 likes and 44 dislikes? Why does it say 317 views..hmm maybe i can't add!!!!!
Moneypit! Anybody remember that movie The Moneypit?
As long as she left one wall up, it's a remodel XD
Yay laws!
I believe her. People jumped to conclusions too quickly.
Serves you right to complain about how other people spend their money.
@ Ana Casparian
...this is a sign of someone who is honest, when they are see the truth, they change their opinions/perspectives...unlike those damn republicans
If it was built in the 1920's it would seem to be able to make it thru a hurricane
Termites? Damn..Elin just can't find good 'wood' anywhere.
@surmon11 elin or ana?
I know people that have houses from the early 1950s and no one cares that they don't meet ''current building codes'' just a sad excuse to waste money that could have gone to help one of the 40m people on food stamps in your country. This system is wasteful and sick.
whats the difference between santa and tiger woods? Santa's only got three hoes
@KuyaBrian873 Haha yeah it's a pet peeve of mine. Happy new year to you.... ho ho ho. 8)
I cant help but feel that if Tiger was a poor black man she would have rejected him in a heartbeat.
"She can do whatever she wants with her money." Oh, you mean Tiger's money? How the fuck did she earn all that money?
You don't know me and I don't know you!
For those of you who disagree on the this being news worthy, do not click the video if you do not like the title of the video.
It's her home . She can do what she wants with it. It's her money she and the rich shouldn't have to be accountable to you.
Moar tax cuts please! I might need to do this with my mansion too, it's so out of style!
@romeroldn looks for 'young turks meg whitman'
you dont know me and i dont know you lmao
That's a straight LIE, seriously she could of sold it to a RICH Tiger Wood fan, or not destroy a house that she'll spend her millions that she got from her divorce, oh well no prenup and this is what happens, Tiger....
@AncestralReflections
I'm sure most of his money came from advertising deals. We all have control over that. if it pisses you off then dont buy that bs product.
Dont tax her! She'll outsource her hair stylist! D:
@PainAddict666 It's true! Just because some don't do it doesn't mean they shouldn't leave the story out.
Nordigen? Let's get the pronounciation right once and for all.. The E's are pronounced like beer. 'ee'-lin Nord-gr'ee'n
If your former man would had slept with half Florida in your bed, you might wanna build a new house.
@chrlpolk I agree man, and I don't really care about her doing this to her house. It's her house.
I'm just saying I understand the anger towards it.
It's obscene the amount of money Tiger and others make from hitting a bloody ball around a f*ckin lawned area, it makes me want to spit!!
... and then they waste it, treat it like monopoly money, it's a joke, pfft!
if my big ass new house was built in the 1920's and i had the expendable income, i'd tear it down and build it agn too.
Yeah well that old saying goes, an hell has no fury like a ..... scorned.
Tiger bought that house...he bought her clothes, shoes her car and gave her HIS money to demolish the house in the divorce ....now she taking his money to live in a new house with a new man on HIS dollar ....
Cenk is FTW! makes me laugh so hard with his rich impersonation :P
Well that's a pretty dumb thing to do repeatedly.
@speerrituall1 I hear you man, though I can sort of sympathise with the anger towards this, since tons of people are homeless and this person destroys a perfectly fine house.
@rogerchou1
Yeah lets do the exact opposite of taxing the rich by cutting their taxes to ZERO percent.
Ron Paul - 2012
No income taxes for the rich - 2012
i swear this is the third time tyt brought this non issue up. WHO CARES.
If it didn't meet the building codes and was infested with bugs....why bother moving there and just go for some place else? Not buying it.
@moccamonster i dont understand how people can get mad about this bc of the amount of homeless in our country... its not like if she bought a different home our homeless would have that one. alot of the homeless are kicked out of their home by the bank who lets the home sit empty anyway. i just dont see that having Anything to do with rich people building houses or re building houses or renovating houses or building an island in dubai.
@jaredabccrisscross
lol
Now if she had sold it and donated 10% to charity, I would care
@genrlcvr I'm pretty sure that the demolition workers she employed and the construction workers that she will employ building a new home will be happy. I'm also sure Tiger Woods is happy that all of the hard work he put into becoming a great golfer is paying off, allowing his children will have nice things. That's the big picture that I see. Your so envious of rich people you can't see the big picture.
I didn't care when it came out that Tiger Woods was fucking tons of women on the side - as far as I'm concerned that's the default state of all rich, male superstars - and I care even less about his ex-wife's living arrangements.
If the super wealthy would do what Elin is doing the world would be a better place for the people out of work. Thank you Elin! You Rock!
@genrlcvr the fact that you look at this and see it as the corrupt actions of super rich shows us that you cant really way what is actually corrupt. The idea that you can hate all rich people for the corruption of some rich people is neither profound nor philosophical itself but rather lacking in reason
She could have it rennovated without rebuilding the whole thing.
@ficksuck1 her family was wealthy before she married tiger - she would have lived this life anyway. she actually rejected him many times not wanting to be a celebrity
I've noticed he's started using WIN and FAIL more recently, and now butthurt. Is he paying attention to /b/? :O
@ficksuck1 her mother alone is a carrier politician in sweden. did you know that majority of carrier politicians are millionaires
She is a job creator, i bet it give plenty of construction workers work here, may more rich ppl do this type of things for it would get more ppl to work. but wait isn't it how old soviet did it???
you don't know me...and I don't know you
I wanna make Cenk ultra rich, so I can see him do that THING every show. XD
Ana, Good Call.
