He's obsessed with Peach because her usual job is babysitting an entire species of helpless mushroom-children, making her MORE than qualified for the role. Sadly since he comes from a dynasty of warlords, he has no idea how to court a woman, and thus resorts to kidnapping. It's implied in multiple games that he doesn't really understand why this tactic never seems to win Peach over.
