Yeah... Off the back of this video I just purchased the Octatrack Mk2. Both excited about the new sounds I can make and terrified at the potential learning curve!

Right. I want to second this. Not that I don’t mind edm or techno stuff. But I LOVE that this video shows such a new dimension of the possibility. And this is what I seek when deciding what gear to add to the arsenal. With this video.. this machine definitely seems fun and a way to use creative flux in such unique ways not confined to a typical “drum machine” or in the box jam box. This thing literally can do everything I want and I wouldn’t have known this from those typical edm jam videos 😂
So moral here.. this is a fantastic video showing the details often missed! ❤

This is the best Elektron demo ever.
Man, I didn't really understand what the octatrack could be for me until this video. I mean, I'd seen plenty of people jamming out awesome dance tunes but something about your style deeply resonated with me, as primarily I'm a guitar player with various experimental electronic influences. I've been trying to ditch the laptop recently and start writing in a way that allows for more fun in a live performance. I just purchased one of these yesterday and I fully blame you, Knobs (in the best way lol).
Thanks for taking the time to put this out there - great quality, great tunes, great knobs.

Great demo. As an owner of the octatrack that isn’t primarily focused on techno using it for more experimental purposes myself you really nailed it.

silenthillmaster755 I’ve had mine for a few years now and would never get rid of it. It is the most flexible sampler I’ve ever owned. I own quite a few samplers
I honestly thought I was safe with the knowledge I didn’t need this piece of kit.

Now I feel like I GET what everyone who’s ever clicked with this gets. Long story short, thank you sooo much for this video. The Octatrack is finally the brain I intended it to be when I bought it ❤️
I've done that with gear before, myself. Most worthwhile things take a bit of work to get the most out of it. Glad you stuck it out! This thing sounds pretty cool.

I don't know who's and how many are behind knobs. But man, everything is superb. Gears are always tested in a unique way, sound has it's own flavour, like channel's graphics and video editing. Keep it up. It's so relaxing: music, sounds, text, colors...no words. Thank you
No joke..I use the octatrack. I could (and I will) actually cite this specific video of the octatrack as a full on influence in what I’m aiming to achieve…crazy….this “trivial” presentation video.

Thank you so much for taking the time to make this great video! I love your musical, tonal, and technical sensibilities in a major way, and you’ve inspired me to get back into learning new ways to use my own Octatrack.
First off.. tonals and little spices is what I crave in a box like this. You blew me away. I love the techniques and sounds here. Showcases the details often missed in demo videos. It’s more amazing how you literally made some banger ambient tracks and this thing alone can probably make an entire track start to finish where albeit you don’t really need a mixer unless you want it. Obviously that’s just to highlight how lovely I enjoyed this video start to finish with all the intricacies. Blows my mind the power of technology with the creative flux of human minds.

I’ve watched this video so many times. Pretty this video is the reason I went ahead and got the Octatrack mk2. For me the learning curve has been quite steep and really confusing, but I’ve stuck with it and things get easier every day. My favorite piece of hardware I’ve ever owned. Thanks again!

This is one of the best demo videos for the MKII I've seen so far. Not a review or tutorial, exactly, but it does highlight the creative potential of this machine very well. As a guitar player, it also makes me even more keen to add this to my studio. Now I just need to single out which pieces of existing studio gear I am willing to sell to pay for one! Thanks for an inspirational and creative video!
After watching this video I began to research the Octatrack MKII. Momentum compelled me to purchase it a couple of months ago. But a busy work schedule and a new school kept me too occupied to devote time and energy into this magnificent machine. But today it finally came together and I'm starting to see a path through.

I enjoyed this immensely - the sounds you’re making are basically what I’ve been looking to achieve with an insanely-sized pedal board. I think I could probably slim down my live pedal rig and just get one of these. Thanks for posting, Knobs!
Cool to see you playing with an Octatrack. My favorite thing is to send the cue outs into pedals, and then you have a looper with an effects loop, and can record samples through the pedals when you have it tweaked just right.
Yep. It's impossible to show everything with this pup, but I definitely regret not showing the cue outputs. Really useful feature. (I also wish I had shown the LFO sorting through slices!! AGH)
Using the LFO to pick slices like that is also incredible. I did a generative piece where I was constantly sampling the inputs and rearranging the slices with an lfo as it played back and resampled. It would be impossible to fit all the little tricks like that into one video!

Great work and presentation, and a refreshing change from the typical dance music videos for the Octatrack. The Mk2 really looks a lot more inviting to use, from the OLED down to the integrated LEDs and buttons. This is the smart industrial design that made their first instruments stand out. Added points for the terrific harmonies and textures here - I really liked the slippery pitches around 16/17 minutes in; they reminded me of Mouse on Mars.

beware knobs bewitchery, besotted! OT is an extraordinary thing, like the piano, the violin, Spanish, tennis, drawing ... and the learning curve is similar. There’s a reason knobs addresses the creative guitarist then concedes “rather than try to explain everything (this takes time) ..”. Before you buy read the manual, watch every tutorial then spend at least a day with one.

You can get the mk1 used for about 800. It does everything the mk2 does. The mk2 was only a hardware update... new screen, new buttons, some additional buttons, new colour etc. But the os is the same
Great choice from elektron to ask you to demo the new octa. So nice to hear something other than techno coming out of one of these boxes.

How did you sample the guitars? With a preamp? Or an mic'd amp? Any effects before the OT?
They mentioned bringing al the new features to the original OT. And somehow you still have a knack for making things look awesome so I may have to sell and upgrade:) I'm literally sitting on an OT and after watching your video, I feel like I need the MK2 like " knobs is doing it, must be right". Great video once again!!!

58 thumbs down...crazy world we live in. The way you are using the OT is the exact reason I bought one a few months ago...sadly, I’m still a bit in the dark on many aspects, but it’s getting there!

The octatrack is great for guitar. So much you can do. At the least it's like having a programmable/automatable effects pedal and that alone is worth the price.
Daniel DeMayo how exactly would one use their guitar with this, do you know? Do you record guitar loops on a separate device and then load them on via sd card or something?
Til Top I do own one. It's a sampler so you can record right on to any of the 8 tracks at any time. But yes you could also load files in. I have a boss 8 track running into mine that way I can stack a bunch of layers first and then sample that. There are a lot of things you can do. Another cool thing is the cue outputs. You could run your gtr in, use effects, run that to your amp out of the cue outputs and then back in again for recording. Its kind of intimidating but will always surprise you that's for sure. Search for the video from Elektron called how to: pickup machines....

Argh. Just ordered a Digitakt as I thought the Octatrack would be too much machine for me (just want to play drum loops to jam along with and play with samples). I suppose I can try some of this with the DT and see how it works (obviously won't have all of the I/O's of the OT); if I want more I can exchange for the upgrade!
