📋 *𝗦𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗵𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆* 📋
𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗶𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗲
Several theories have been formulated:
1. - it would derive from a contraction of the term *Sorinianum*;
2. - the name could indicate belonging to a Roman family named Sorina, Sornia, Soria or Sergia;
3. - it could be a term of Etruscan origin, composed of surus (pole, trunk, wood) and the ending ianus (place), thus meaning wooded place;
4. - it could have a relationship with that of Monte Soratte;
5. - it could derive from the first examples of tabby cat imported into Italy from the Middle East.
History
The first written testimony of Soriano nel Cimino is with Tito Livio who in his work ab Urbe condita Historia, tells that in 443 BC, on the occasion of the war against the Etruscans, the village of Soriano was invaded by the Roman militias commanded by the consul Quinto Fabio Massimo Rulliano who had managed to cross “the impenetrable forest of Cimina” after numerous difficulties...................................................................................................................................................................................
