    Love the way you describe your journey! The biggest headache I had when working with Audio Interface and PC is that my graphic card kept giving my studio monitor interference Hss sound when playing games or even just moving the mouse. (ofc using balanced xlr/trs)

    Curtiss,
    I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for posting this video. I am an aspiring voiceover talent, and I really had my heart set on the Apollo Twin. I am also a PC guy. After hearing your struggles, some of which went way over my head, I decided on the Apogee. Thus far, it is beyond my modest abilities, but that is more a case of coming from using old school mixers with sliders or pots.
    In any event, thank you for your fantastic description and commentary.

    Last year I bought UA twin X Quad Core in Sweetwater and yes its a beautiful interface but it was also giving me many issues for an entire month even using a Mac Pro 2020, so I couldn't take it anymore and I returned it. Now watching your video it gives me of a more clear view of the apogee, it sounds like an amazing interface and I love the features, its also beautiful 👍

    thank you so much! I am new to all of this tech gear and I just had a similar experience with audiant id22 - sounded great but to many glitches - I went to a focusrite and its easy to use but sound sucks- so now I'm looking for the best- easiest to use interface I can get - I've narrowed it down to RME - apollo twin or apogee - I too am a PC user and not interested in converting I giggled all the way through your video and feel like you saved me tons of headache - I'm already so frustrated that had I not seen this and went with the apollo that would probably be enough to send me over the edge lol and just give up on recording - fantastic video - thank you!

    I still have the apogee due and sound amazing. I used for when I take trips or for just demos. In my studio I have the Antelope audio interface Zentour and is great! Work with no issues and we the software you can routing anything. Great video, congrats!

      Does the Antelope sound better than the Apogee duet? I am looking into buying the Antelope soon, and I have both the Apogee and a Apollo twin mkII...I feel the Apogee sounds better than the Apollo.

    • @ErnestoPossiSpanishVoiceOver
      @ErnestoPossiSpanishVoiceOver Год назад +1

      @@MichaelAdam-cd3gj The original Apogee Duet has a clear and transparent sound, but in my case, I have replaced everything 😀with the help of Black Lion Audio, and it now sounds close to another interface I have, the Apogee Symphony 2x6 version 1.(No mic preamp here)
      On the other hand, the Antelope Audio interfaces are also highly regarded in the audio industry. Antelope's interfaces are known for their advanced digital clocking technology, which is designed to reduce jitter and improve overall sound quality. They also offer a range of built-in effects and processing tools, which can be useful for recording and mixing. And the Zen Tour have more inputs and outputs than the Apogee Duet. I have noticed that Antelope audio have a "darker" or more "analog" sound than the Apogee Duet, which may be desirable in certain situations.
      Ultimately, the choice between the Apogee Duet and the Antelope Audio interfaces will depend on your specific needs and preferences. I use in the studio the antelope and in the rout the Apogee...However, I had a problem with my Antelope Audio Zen Tour two year a go, the meter gave me a wrong number and there was no place in the USA where I could send the unit for repairs. I sent the unit to the manufacturer, where they analyzed it, but they were unable to fix it. In the end, it turned out to be just a software problem.

    I hear you man. Excellent video, and I can really relate to what you're saying, since I've been on my own journey hunting for better sound for my studio. I used PCs for music for 10 years, and loved my setup. Best sounding, most stable setup I ever had was a Quad core pentium, Windows 7, RME HDSP card with midi and multiple audio channels. Plugged into that using AES with Mytek and Benchmark AD/DA converters and external preamps. Sound blew me away, as good as anything I've heard since. Did heaps of stuff with that including sound for movies and all sorts of commercial projects, with lots of happy customers. Sold my gear before moving to a new country, then got a cheap Mac mini, and that's when all my problems started lol. Seriously learnt so much shit, the good, the bad and the ugly. Had a focusrite like you, with my Mac mini, and the focusrite is reliable, no issues, but nowhere near as good sound wise as my PC setup. Also one huge issue I discovered about using Macs, and this goes totally counter to what I'm seeing people post online. If you have a mac with an integrated graphics processor, (like my Mac mini) then you're in trouble if you use some of the newer plugins with constantly changing graphics (Izotope, Fabfilter etc). These are great plugins by the way, which I use a lot for mixing. They use the GPU to accelerate the graphics processing. If you don't have a good graphics card, you'll get lots of pops and clicks on playback on the Mac, and many times the DAW just stops and says "Not enough CPU" or "Not enough RAM". Once I figured out it was because of the really low powered integrated GPU I had, I traded up for an iMac with good graphics card (not integrated) and works like a dream now. A few months back I was so fed up, I was about to build a new PC, but graphics cards are so crazy expensive, I stayed with Mac. So back to looking for better sound now. Read good things about the Symphony, worth looking into. It doesn't really matter what you use to make music, the devil is always in the details lol. All the best.

    Man, I relate to this video so much! I'm a full time voice actor, and upgraded from the Focusrite Solo to the Apollo Solo (USB) a few months back. But this video hits hard. From the same compatibility issues with not only programs like OBS etc. but also for software used to connect studios together for live directed recording sessions (Cleenfeed, Source Connect etc.), right down to the pain of letting it go due to how beautiful it is! Like you I was routing through Voicemeeter, through ASIO, through this and that and by the time I had gone through so many chains it just felt pointless to be paying so much and having to do so much just to work around its limitations.
    Perhaps it's time to send mine back...

    Hey Curtis!! I had the silver Apollo Twin first + Mac in 2012, then built a PC in 2017 and tried to transition over my interface and pretty much went through similar problems as you did, so I bought a thunderbolt card....and that's it, everything I needed to do Audio-wise went smoothly including setting up OBS, upgraded to the apollo mark 2 everything is working as it should. I think I caught a break when I unknowingly used hardware to feed my audio so things are initialized through the hardware first, then the apollo, that's why I had no problems with discovery after that with any other program that needed audio inputs etc. I hope this helps, keep up the good work.

    I run my studio off the Apollo Twin USB + Uad-2 Satellite. It handles 75% of routing within the UAD Console Application for windows. UAD is in point with windows too, as far as software, but their hardware is definitely outdated. Been thru the manual and tried, you have setup Virtual routing channels, which are routable within almost any application. The 2 virtual channels show up as outputs, whether you set them up as stereo or mono, as well as the Microphone input, which can give you stereo or mono inputs. You gotta do front end routing via console for the back end to show up in the program.

    I love my Symphony Desktop and it’s going to be even crazier when they drop the new software update. I updated from an Avid fast track duo to the Apogee Duet for Mac/IOS about 5 years ago and it was a massive upgrade in sound quality and my mixes turned out better...no complaints with the Duet at all, but after upgrading to the Symphony Desktop, my mixes are even better than with the Duet, my home studio legit sounds like I’m recording and mixing in a big major studio somewhere. And the Apogee plugins are amazing, the Pultec plugin is the only pultec plugin emulation licensed and endorsed by the company that makes the Pultec hardware. When Apogee states that the Symphony was like a widescreen window into your mixes....they...were...not....lying. I’d definitely be interested in a video of how the Symphony affected your mixes at some point.

      How much of a big difference did you notice from the duet 2 to the symphony in vocal recordings?
      Also is it true the symphony has a fan? Does this jot affect while recording ?

    • @nicolasstrawberry4148
      @nicolasstrawberry4148 2 года назад +2

      @@EM-km8em first of all, no it doesn’t have a fan. There’s definitely a difference, better preamps and better converted for sure. I mainly use the Neve preamp emulation for vocals, and it has the esc channel strip software built into it so you can really shape the sound first and print the effects if you want to. I would say one of the biggest advantages is the digital to audio conversion. My mixes have gotten a lot better, or should I say when mix and play them back on other devices, even on earbuds they sound a lot better than when I mixed using the Duet.I got great mixes with the Duet but sometimes I’d have to go back and make adjustments here and there when I checked them on earbuds etc. you can just hear more detail when mixing with the Symphony.

      @@EM-km8em I don’t have any personal experience with the Apollo Twin Duo or any of their product line. I’ve heard a side by side comparison online and thought the Apogee sounded cleaner but it might have been how the user had their setting.
      I used to want an Apollo for the UAD plugins and because of them being processed by their hardware but computers have become so powerful I don’t need dsp processors these day. The Apogee Symphony has dsp processing but my 2020 MBP is more than capable of running the pluginsI need, and the thing I like about using A[ogees plugins is I can use them with or without Apogee hardware, unlike UAD plugins. I can also use the Symphony with my IPad if I feel like it.
      I don’t doubt the Apollo sounds great though, I doubt Universal Audio would be behind anything that didn’t sound great.

      Apollos can be very problematic with PCs which he is using. You have to remember Apollo was for years was only for Mac, until recent years when they specifically made USB version of the Apollo Twin, but still there are issues, which is why he is having problems. With a Mac its going to work flawless like yours. I use both Mac and PC both using Apollo Twins and my PC constantly has issues with the Apollo Twin

    PC user here I own 3 x series apollos chained together I had a huge issue when it came to recording screen captures and streaming at first then I went Into the routing matrix and started messing with the inputs and outputs. I found out you can make the apollo see the outputs of the virtual outputs as inputs once you do that obs can see it zero problems zero shudders. The only other issue was because my apollos are thunderbolt 3 they come in way faster than the capture card for my cameras. I had to set a delay but eventually realized it's easy using a streaming switcher with all 4 cameras connected to it then feed it the apollos outputs on a separate send and boom everything was in sync sounded amazing and has never had a single glitch

    Bro I'm literally going through this right now. I bought an X8 but now I want to stream with my PC gaming rig as well. Didn't even consider the Apogee until now so definitely will look into it

    Hmm I got a Focusrite Clarett 8pre USB which is plug and play perfect with Windows, but I've been toying with the idea of getting an Apollo. This is great info. Think I'm sticking with my Clarett for now, but that Apogee looks dope

    “Sounds better than my personal voice”😂😂😂 I’ve been using focusrite with my Mac since the beginning of time so I thank you for this video🙏🏽 however I don’t really use my personal vocals a lot..I just make instrumentals..so I’m not sure how switching an interface would benefit me but it no doubt looks sooo beautiful lol

    Thank you for saving me that headache! I’m switching to Windows, and I’ll really miss the Twin, but it’s good to know what else is good. Have you had any experience with the new SSL interfaces?

    I am also Running on a Windows Machine, and I also Stream using the Apollo Twin X. I had to get a Thunderbolt 3 PCIe card for my Motherboard just for me to hook it up. After watching this video, I noticed you stopped at ASIO Link Pro, which was the solution to my OBS Mic Problem. All I did was re-route my Mic Input into a different Channel in ASIO Link Pro and used it as MIX 01 in OBS and VOILA. :)
    But I'm sorry you were unable to get yours to work.
    I went DAYS going thru this as well... So I definitely feel you're pain. I wasn't gonna give up. LOL
