Hey data nerds 👋, in this video I'm talking about how I use iPad Pro for learning data science. I really enjoy watching videos, reading books, taking study notes and even coding (!) on an iPad. Honestly, I tend to get lazy and procrastinate a lot when working/ studying by myself. This iPad has helped me against procrastination because I actually think it is fun to use it. Even though it costs a lot of money (to me), I still think it's been a great investment overall.

Congrats on that but I would suggest making sure you need a pro. It’s honestly way more power than 99% of people use. That being said, it can be useful but even the iPad mini is absolutely incredibly powerful. Do you need a LiDAR sensor? Extra power for real professional digital work (film editing, running huge data sets, etc…)? Do you need the fully laminated display (mainly for artists who want the pencil right again the screen)? Do you need a magic keyboard?
I have a pro and love it but also I don’t even get close to its full power even with my video editing
I love that I can access my GoodNotes app on my iPhone. It’s so convenient when I’m done writing notes on my iPad.

Shout out to the fact that you use Procreate for note-taking because me too !! ♡ At first I used it exclusively for my digital painting and had a hard time meanwhiles deciding between Goodnotes and Notability. Took me long enough to realize I already had what I needed .. iPad has been helping me tremendously, very much agree with your shared experiences. On another note, what are your all-time favorite classes on Skillshare?
Hey Catherine! I had the exact experience lol. It watched countless videos to decide whether to use Goodnotes or Notability, only to find that I still enjoy the drawing experience in Procreate much better 😅.
I have an 11 inch iPad Pro and I am also working on my CS degree. Sometimes I wonder if I should switch to the 12.9 inch for more screen space while taking notes.

And audio quality of iPad is amazing even compared with HP laptop with B&O audio (both using Sony headphones)
Note the 12.9 inch is measure diagonally (like TV set) so dimensions are probably closer to 8.5 x 11 inch pad of paper.
I made mistake of buying 11 inch diagonal thinking 11 as in 8.5 x 11, but its not it is diagonal like TV. Stupid me.

What do you recommend, CS or DS to study for Bachelor?!! Which one would be better?!! I'm going to college and I'm really confused between these two. But personally, I prefer DS, because It's more focused on AI. I also have totally finished Frontend Development. However, I need you advice. Could you please advise me which one to choose CS or DS?!!

I’m wondering if you can use an IPad Pro exclusively as a Data Scientist/Analyst? For me it’s a physical issue as I have nerve pain in my arms and an iPhone or tablet is much easier for me to deal with.

If I were starting 2 or 3 years ago I think I would use exactly your setup.
Starting today I am interested in Zotero, Obsidian and Excalidraw.
It looks like Zotero & Obsidian should work well on a large iPad if I decide to go that route.
DUMB QUESTION: How do you launch Jupyter when you are not clicking on an existing .ipynb file? Do use a command line in a terminal? I forgot I had installed Jupyter, so I decided to add an icon to my desktop. Jupyter doesn't have an icon and
I would have to convert an .svg file to .ico using either a website, Inkscape or GIMP and then manually configure it, so I assume this is not the normal use case for Jupyter Notebooks or Jupyter Lab!
Hey Jim, thank you for sharing this! Yes, Obsidian is fun as well! I used it only for a short while tho before switching to Notion. And yes, I did have to click on an .ipynb file after launching Carnets to open the file 😀
@@Thuvu5 Yeah, Obsidian seems to be a bit of a fixer-upper, do-it-yourselfer compared to Notion. But, people are writing Notion-equivalent add-ins for Obsidian.

Correction the iPad Pro is a computer 🖥 it’s a tablet computer. Tablet for short. So many people make this mistake in not realizing that tablets are computers just like laptops and desktops with their own unique OSs.
