1080p HD!
Only the week prior to this Thameslink operated its first class 700 in passenger operation between London Bridge & Brighton. Over the course of the week they have been operating them only a few times a day on certain services, so I decided I'd try and get one and take it for a spin. Over the coming weeks the Class 700's will start rolling out much more frequently between Bedford & Brighton so look out for them.
I travelled on 700109, which was operating the 14:54 from London St. Pancras where I travelled on it as far as Gatwick Airport. This video includes some footage of the service arriving and departing from outside as well as a walk through and look around inside the new unit.
Overall my opinion of them is good. Lots of space, for both people and luggage, but not much legroom. They'll do very well on peak time services through Central London, but I'm not sure I'd enjoy a long journey on one, say right through from Bedford to Brighton.
Thanks for watching

I dispuised these trains at first because they had uncomfortable seating and replaced the trains of my childhood especially the 319s. Now I like them, but still sad to see 319s are not as common anymore now they are up north, I loved them so much
Great Video of the Class 700. I wish their were tables in standard class, it is going to be slightly annoying going all the way from Bedford to Brighton without a table or arm rest. From what I have seen of them so far I think they will be ok for short journeys.
Sat in one last week travelling to Croydon (got off Norwood Junction) & my seat had a good size foldable table.
i think no one will go from bedford to brighton via thameslink. they will use EMR and change at London to go to gatwick. But people might use thameslink from bedford to brighton for a cheaper option
seeing a lot more of these, cannot wait to get a journey on one someday...
Cannot wait to commute on these!
Very high tech and super quiet.. Quite nice, and the front doesn't look too ugly for a modern train haha.
TheDustyBinman the Sevenoaks to Victoria thameslink line has a loud alarm going off every time it stops and starts
@@TheFinalHoss its not an alarm
Yeah it’s the way the track south of the Thames reacts to the particular train because the ground is much different to the north of the Thames. Oh sorry it’s also Sevenoaks to Blackfriars not Victoria
@@TheFinalHoss Its the traction motor equipment on the train making the funny sound
i like the train hoping to go on it in the near future
ill sub to you ok Sub back ?
Give it 20 years they will be given to the north of England Looking forward to travelling on them lol
Why could they not build such smart looking trains in the 60s and 70s when we were young? Yes, I know there were no computers in those days, but apart from computers, trains did not look nearly so beautiful back then.
hawkeye0248 would've loved to see the 371's and 381's run on the Thames link but thanks to John gagor with his privatisation of doom they were never built same for the 471 that was to operate on the Kent coast
Legend says he's still walking along the train.
They have class 378 style wide inter-car gangways, then. New style passenger information system, rather like that used on stations in Germany, but those seats do look rather thinly padded and upright. Do they ride like other Desiros, i.e. sway from side to side?
Awesome video mate!
In scotland we have the class 170 and 158 as our main DMUs, the class 700 may be new but the 170 and 158 definitely have a much better quality inside
thank you it looks like I travel on one of the in sept when I come down to London
Good video dude. The Desiro City looks very impressive. :)
I am surprised the third rail mode actually has a sharp sound at higher speed. I always thought it was that one tone and then silent all the way.
When are they actually going to enter full service? These were meant to be in service for spring 2016 which I'd say is already 2 months behind schedule.
Love these. I have never been on an endless carriage train myself. I am curious, what's it like you are wanting to switch coaches, and end up coming to a turn right when you get to the divide between them? My guess is you would want to wait for things to straighten out, right?
never bends enough for it to become an issue
Great video!
These tube like trains are really good except for when the air conditioning doesn’t work and you can’t open the windows
I've noticed a problem with trains like these, due to the fact that in Winter the train gets cold when the doors are opened. I prefer trains that have the doors at the ends of each coach so it stays warm if you're sat in the middle of them.
These are designed for quick boarding and departing like in underground trains. These weren't made to hang around!
Very nice train :)
I can see the first class doors making it difficult to open if the train is busy!
they take off quickly. how fast must it be going by the time it reached the end of the platform?
What year will these operate on the GN line?
Why are they designated with class 700 numbers instead of 300/400 numbers?
Thanks RachelMatt...I wonder how long these coaches stay in service before passengers urinate on the seats and vandalise the windows?
Nice. You should do a video of the old trains we have in the Northwest of England!
I agree, should come and see where their old stock and cast offs ends up
Yes. I don't travel on trains, however it's ridiculous seeing (and hearing the gear changes on some of the old stock!) these old trains packed to the rafters when the poor downtrodden passengers are paying extortionate amounts of money to travel 3rd class! Sorry to rant over your video guys, but when the government talk about the 'Northern Powerhouse'. well it's pathetic!!
come travel on Merseyrail. Papers say the rolling stock is the oldest in the counrty
+gary09 lane Yes, beyond the waterfront where millions have been spent lies the real Liverpool eh? I drive to Manchester City Centre every day for work (I work in the NHS) and the state of the roads and general infastructure is a total disgrace for a major Northern city. Overgrown trees, weeds everywhere and general lack of investment. Incidentally, whilst this is a railway video, the few times my Wife and I have travelled by rail, I find the sides of the railway lines and approaches to stations disgusting and certainly not a good welcome to visitors!
I work in the NHS as well. Merseyrail do their best but at the moment Governments in this country (of BOTH sides) would rather spend billions of pounds on the rail network down south and leave us up here in old stock and crammed into trains of 2 or 3 carriages only.
Nice trains, bit it is still a bind getting for Heathrow to the south coast and only a little better to the north. It is generally train/tube, then tube, and finally train again. Phew!
Do you remember what time it was?
It's good for short journeys but if you're going from London to Brighton or Luton the journey looks like it can be uncomfortable
the first class is same as standard? just with tables
First class seats are thicker as in comfy and darker blue
You have a wider more comfortable seat with a segregated door partition. You also receive one plug socket per each seat, more space, arm rests, large tables and an overall feel for confort.
You can also switch to first class for luxury.
Pfft. They look practically the exact same as a 387's standard seating like GWR use, just with added head-rest parts, the same sort of arm rests, connection sockets & tables. It's no real step-up in comfort-ability, which this train lacks in :/
You missed put a great big section of the route between Farringdon? and Horley
I'm Doing The EXACT Same Service As You Later On, How Long Does It Take?
where can i put my bike? i heard there was going to be a special place
nice
It's as if they never end when u see them entering from the darkness, lol
Didn't see much, if any, difference between first and standard class.
Don't like Airline seats. Prefered the seating and tables they used to have on the old MK 1 coaches.
What makes it worse is the iron-board like seating they use :/
3 words. Declassified first class.
They lack charging points, don't they?
nah i think they are gonna have em
unfortunately they don't - hard to believe on an Airport to Airport Service
@rachaelmatt
How many cars?
12
700/0 is 8 and 700/1 is 12
There's always one inconsiderate idiot with their feet on the seats grrr!
It looks like GUNDAM. What do you think?
They have same seats as a 387
The announcer at the start sounded like Louis spence
Must admit, First Class looks nothing more than standard class with a white seat cover.
The first class seats look way more comfy and wider as well as better padded then standard. It also features tables, arm rests, plug sockets and your own compartment which isn't offered in Standard Class.
+2812 Adam - EXTRA I suppose it's because the company is a commuter based and not inter city! That's Thameslink's answer when I questioned there first Class!
A very good train but I find it regretable that it's entirely of foreign manufacture as far as I know so I can't feel any pride in it. It seems we're having to get used to the fact that the vast majority of trucks & cars are foreign and increasingly so are trains.
This is in contrast to the IC125; when i first travelled on one I was amazed that one could travel on this impressive train on a standard ticket.
According to my mate, the last diesel train built in the UK was in 1993 and elecrtric train in 1996.
Thanks for the info.
***** He might have been thinking about British owned companies.
'First Class' looks appaling.
Haha! Remember its a commuter train. Its not supposed to be anything special. Its more just secluded seating and more guaranteed seating for those willing to pay for it on busy services.
I think the interior design is absolutely awful. Reminds me of being in a hospital. Seats are stiff and uncomfortable.
Most of the riders seem to be disguised as empty seats. Seems a bit wasteful, all that train for a handful of people.
This service was in the middle of the afternoon. Its a test service, in rush hour these things will be packed.
There is a Siemens engineer travelling with the driver in each service, most of the equipment is touchscreen, this train is a totally new concept in Britain's railways and need to be tested to the end.
Try to board a Thameslink service in LBG, the current class 377 are totally packed from the beggining..
