Venus: Welcome To Her Nightmare

- Stephen King once described the planet Venus as a haunted house in space. He wasn't wrong.

Russia actually wasn't the only country to put a lander on Venus, the Americans did it accidentally in 1978 when one of the Pioneer Venus mission's atmospheric entry probes unexpectedly survived impact with the ground and continued transmitting data for a little over an hour. It had slowed to a survivable descent speed due to Venus' extreme atmospheric density.
Wow, never knew that. Always thought only Russia landed on Venus
That's so cool, I had no idea
@@patoconnell5810
Even more cool ; in-future , people may also make survivable descents to Venus' surface . The key to this would be shading the planet , in order to cool it's atmosphere , and collapse it's CO2 content . The planet's desiccated and fractured , alkali-metal laden crust , would sponge up the liquid CO2 . This would quickly result in the formation of various carbonates , cooling the surface, and enabling the descent of man and his machines . These could then engage in planet-wide deep-sequestration ; slowly converting the hell-planet into a "Dune" class planet . .😎
*To examine this subject in more detail , read my post at :
quora.com/Could-we-terraform-Mars-or-Venus/
@@Prof.Megamind.thinks.about.it. But how long will it take?
Earth will be lost to the sun in a billion years, and Venus even sooner
I think we should start thinking of moving our own planet instead, after we save it from the present dumpster fire that is.
Maybe that goes hand in hand, lower the atmospheric pressure on Venus , so we can strip it clean for the energy needed to move the Earth.
@@benghazi4216
Mr.G. ,
I put it to you that within a thousand years , we could shade/cool Venus , and have an Earth-3 (Arrakis) class world .
However , changing Earth's orbit is likely not possible . Besides the ridiculous difficulty of moving 6.6-sextillion tons across interplanetary distances , the gravitational resonances with the other planets would operate to keep Earth in it's natural orbit anyway . This is related to how the Jovian-moon resonances keep Io in place , despite Jupiter's constant attempt to lift it into a higher orbit , like Earth lifts Luna . That struggle is the energy-source for Io's abundance of powerful volcanism .
So... shade Venus ? Do that !
Shade Earth ? Heck yeah !
Move Earth ? Not a chance ! .🙉
OMG a full hour of Parallax Space Poetry! And it's on Venus!!
If you're a regular here, you probably know that 'planet' comes from Greek 'planates' or... Wanderer. How about you wander that mouse over to the subscribe button, because it helps Nick, and we love new content.
I’ve been with this guy for ages and it still blows me away how his channel isn’t more subs
Daniel Goldie Sadly RUclips's algorithm rewards extremely frequent uploads, which encourages somewhat mindless content - the time spent meticulously researching not only the core subject, but the human history relevant to that subject means Parallax Nick's videos are not going to reach the masses, and only come to the attention of those already interested in the subject.
Which is a shame, because some really superb work is being missed, here!
With the threads of history, science, mythology, philosophy, prose and humour.... Nick has woven yet another warming garment of education for us.
"I Am the Doorway" was the first story I ever read on my own, I was only 8 years old. I always enjoy the linguistic tale that you weave, when you tell us one of your celestial stories. Thank you!
what the hell did RUclips just recommend me and why did it wait so long to do so
A channel you have been missing out on for a loooong time
@@GodWorksOut Yeah man, Nick's content is good from video 1. The water series is great
Heh... I would say I’m jealous you just discovered this channel and that you’re in for an incredible ride, but seeing as how this comment is 5 days old, you’ve probably binged most of his videos by now.
I only just got here via JMG
Welcome friends, it's good to have you with us
This was just fricken amazing. I could listen to these all day and night. Awesome writing and narration, thanks!
Saw Venus this morning. Lovely video, I'm glad I found your channel.
Love this man's work
This is one of my favourite videos, the introduction was just brilliant 👏
Awwww yiss Christmas comes early. Thank you St. Nick ;)
The way you present Venus's story is captivating. Thank you for this.
Nick that was another fantastic video! Thank you very much! You're still one of the most interesting channels on RUclips. ❤❤❤ amazing work like always. your videos were the light of 2020 for me...
You’ll be right up there with the greats. Just keep putting out this quality content.
This is a proper documentary, well written, narrated and (given the constraints in production value) very well produced. I enjoyed it tremendously.
I had to pause this video to once again express how much I love your work, my good man! You are my favourite RUclipsr, by far!
Venusian Snow would be a pretty rad band name.
Yo, my Man “Nick”..!!you went all out on this Brother, really put some heart in this episode 😎
Very cool..!!
Agreed, Patrick. He puts heart into everything he does.
*Your channel deserves more subscribers!* Kudos!
Really an exceptionally well-researched, well-imagined, and (especially) well-written study, Parallax. Outstanding work and a unique amalgam of wit and learning. Thank you.
Welcome back. That was simply outstanding. Never stop
BEST. RUclips. CHANNEL. EVER.
Beautiful, almost poetic, descriptions. Thanks!
I feel betrayed but RUclips, I got a notification of this video's release a full week after it was released. Damn you algorithm.
Great video and a welcome addition to the channel... Thank you Nick!!
Thank you, Nick, for this excellent video.
amazing. i love your long form so much :) thank you for creating and sharing this!
Love your channel. I think I've seen every video. Some of them several times. Keep it up.
Right when I come to completing every video of yours (mostly) this come out just in time. Fantastic, looking forward for your next series
Absolutely killed it! Thank you m8!
I’m always so excited to see a new video from you, Nick. Thanks for the quality content! You mean so much to so many of us.
Thank you for your videos. Look forward to them always.
Excellent and comprehensive! Love how you covered everything from cultural / mythological history of our perceptions of Venus to the latest research!
This channel is an absolute gem and this video a work of fine art!
Always happy too see a video from you. Amazing work!
Brilliant piece Nick, look forward to your next one.
Fascinating stuff as ever, I can’t tell you how much I look forward to these!
"...lonely end for a once blue planet." cut to your smiley galaxy face.
a very funny end to an intense video. fantastic
Have watched this 4 or 5 times. Just watched it again. Still one of my favourite videos on Venus and one of the best planetary videos out there.
Fascinating, and a triumph of a documentary. Thank you, Nick!
This is the most underrated space related RUclips channel.
Ah, been waiting to watch this since morning.
You somehow manage to awe me with each and every video.
💯
Wonderful, lovely, brilliant. Your normal incredible quality, thank very much Thank you Nick.
The thumbnail of the skull and venus is very very nice
What an amazing production. So impressed
LOVE YOUR VIDEOS! It’s an interesting educational journey every time I watch. Your voice is relaxing too. Though as feed back I feel as if the artistic attempt to change your voice doesn’t flow well. THANK YOU! For really going all out on this one. I understand these take enormous amounts of work and you need to know that your videos are loved and inspire. Can’t wait for your next one. Would love to hear a deep dive into the ice giants and MORE RESENT DISCOVERY videos. Sleep well nick and stay safe and healthy :)
Wow, awesome video. Keep up the great work!
I always love watching your videos and letting them transport me into the linguistic world you weave. You take such a unique approach to covering material that has otherwise been covered a million times over. I've watched 10+ documentaries and other space based channels videos on Venus, yet you managed to cover material that I have never heard until now. Top notch as always, long time subscriber and I will continue to closely follow your work. I know you had a tough time in the recent year with health problems and loss of your computer and such, I hope all is well for you nick.
My god. You are my new favorite channel.
As a sometime audiophile, when I think of Venus, I think of that movement in Holst's *The Planets*. And what seems especially heavenly to me is to hear the start of it, with absolutely no tape hiss or vinyl noise. A pleasure I was denied for many years. Such charm is almost…feminine.
Thank you so much! Your channel is the best thing on the internet
''wikipedia articles, some of which I wrote''
I find that just as cool as I find it unsurprising, the lenght of your scripts scream ''I write wikipedia articles with my eyes closed'' (and dont change that)
Wow Nick, this is definitely among my favorite videos of yours. Incredible work; poetic, informative, ominous.... A perfect balance of poetic readings and stories throughout the ages, the history of astronomy and the creation of unmanned probes, and descriptions of Venus' horrifying features. The ending was perfect, and though I am highly looking forward to your End of Year video, I think ending this where you did was the perfect choice. It leaves us with much to think about.
I'd almost get second thoughts about whether colonizing the Venusian clouds is a good idea!
Sorry that it took me a week to get to watch this video; I was rather occupied with finishing off my own half-hour video. Though the subject-matter is very different, you inspired me a lot in creating it. I can't thank you enough for creating such gorgeous, incredible videos, making me aspire for more myself!
Let me know when that video is finished! I would love to watch it!
@@parallaxnick637 I finished it a few days ago; here's a link! ruclips.net/video/Jwcv9YR1n7w/видео.html
“Ever dancing and weaving her veil of shadows” so poetic! How much time do you spend scripting?!?!? Seriously I’m curious?
Just a gess it thakes 10 minutes of writhing for 1 second of script so 57×60×10=34200 minusts ore 500 houers. I might be over estematig with my gess. But i can say thet it is a halle are a long time.
Thanks for JMG for showing me your channel today. Subbed and looking forward to a deep dive through your work.
This is such a fantastic video. Thank you. We really appreciate all your hard work.
and I appreciate your appreciation. It really keeps me going.
This is the best video on Venus I have seen yet. Well done, very thought provoking
Merry Christmas... Can't wait to see your JWST video!

Good work man i love your videos and your voice is just so calming to me thank you for the amazing content👏👏👏
An extraordinary piece of work! Thank you for sharing it with us!
Respect for putting this together. Good work
Nick.. you are a master of narration! beautifully produced videos.. keep going
The type of channel where you click the *LIKE* 👍 before the video even begins. Just do it! Do it!
Another masterpiece. Bravo, Nick.
I love your work! Keep it up!
Love you bud! Great video... glad to see you still churning them out! I think I'm going to go watch Melancholia now... again =]
Brilliant original content. I cant believe you dont have a million subs. You must work tirelessly and your results are pro. Can't wait to explore your channel. Well done!
Outstanding. Get some rest.
Really mesmerizing. Almost burned my grits, which is not a euphemism but an actual near catastrophe in the kitchen this morning because I was listening too intently about the celestial vagaries of Venus. Great video.
Do not forsake grits. Add extra butter for me.

Roger that. Though at first glance your request appears unexpectedly Biblical.
Your content and channel is very underrated thank you for your great videos sir!
Another masterpiece 👏👏👏. Thanks nick
Nick, you are a mighty unicorn! I love your content! You wonderful human, you! 🤗
Thank you for uploading it on Friday to me 😇😇
This planet is just getting closer and closer to my heart
Do you have a black hart than?
Yes
THIS WAS A GREAT VID NICK!
Your channel is gold
This channel is basically a lower budget, but much higher quality version of Cosmos. Keep up the good work Nick!
Cosmos pales in comparison to this. I could only stand the first 20 minutes it was all so basic. Perhaps it gets better? I doubt it though as NDT has to cater to the lowest common denominator
I'm an astrophysicist and normally find the typical youtube videos on space topics a bit boring, but the amount of new things you've taught me over the past couple years is nothing short of incredible and I routinely get to use what I've learned here when teaching, especially when it comes to people asking about Pluto.
Your channel is anything but "typical". Keep up the great work and best wishes to you in the new year!
Excellent video as always
I love this. Parallaxnick can put me to sleep every night while giving me colorful "space" dreams.
Me too! I prefer sleeping to the Water Playlist but the Planet X Playlist is also epic. So great!
This is amazingly good I'm really warming to Nicks style it's rather unique and when needs be he's great to drift off too aswell 😇😴
I've always been fascinated by Venus and descriptions of the mind bogglingly extreme conditions there and this one is the best yet. Thankful to Event Horizon channel for directing me here!
incredible video as always
Thanks for another great video!
Your work is amazing. JMG got me here.
Another classic, thanks you sir. Can you please make an episode on our great mighty sun
After the water series is over, that's the first one.
NND. Nick Never Disappoints! Another quality video man. I can't wait to rewatch this, I usually do with your vids, they're so full of information, intrigue and wit I can't absorb it all in just one play through! Well worth the wait!
I love your channel.
Amazing work as always.
I love your videos!!! So interesting 🧐
Jupiter is terrifying, hype for your work. Great stuff.
Thank you for your content. It is brilliant.
Love your work
Love the video. Lots of interesting info that you put into context. The only C&C I have is that sometimes the sudden stop of audio between segments can be sort of jarring.
Love to see more
wow! thanks for doing these great videos!!!
Thanks for this, I have always been curious about Venus, and now I feel I know a little bit more. ❤
One of my top 10 favorite channels
Immensely informative & entertaining!
really really good work....thank you
Yay!! Hello there Parallax Nick! I love your channel & always smile when I see a new upload from you! Good show old chap!
My wife and I live in NZ and are planning to head west in the next clear evening to spy on Jupiter & Saturn. 👀
Great video. I enjoyed it very much. Thank you & stay safe.
