    Wow! So much detail and work in this bar. Probably not even noticed by average person, but highlighting it and hearing the back stories brings a new level of appreciation. Awesome episode Spike!

      Yeah, once you in it during service time, I think a lot of it gets missed, but you’re never at a loss for things to look at in there.

      I know what you mean, Indianapolis, Grand Rapids, Michigan… places that I thought I’d never go, but places that have some of the greatest tiki bars in the world.

    Love the bar owners philosophy of quality over quantity.

    WOW! Another awesome bar out of my reach here in Australia. However, I make it up with the quantity of PNG artifacts that are within my reach. Next to Māori, artworks and carvings from Papua New Guinea and Melanesia predominately make up my collection for my home and bar. Melanesia is the home of some fantastic and skillful Carvers. Aloha

    My favorite tiki bar in Indianapolis. You’ll have to stop in and see the home bar next year and not stay out so late😂

    Really appreciate these deep dives into the fabulous tick bars across the country. Now I can add this to my "don't miss it" list when I'm anywhere near Indy again. Your review of Tiki Tatsuya in Austin was the reason I made sure my friends and I went even if it meant a 40 minute drive into downtown in heavy rain to get there - and it was so worth it!

    Amazing Job Spike! This episode is why you’re the best at this, showing the true passion that goes into a project like the Inferno Room! Also, I’m looking for a retiring PNG professor if any of yall have any leads.

    The Inferno Room is a fun spot! I was out in Indi this past June and had to make a visit. I was initially a little worried when I walked in an saw an electronic ad for chili dogs over the bar 😅 But the decorations, ambiance, drinks and service were excellent and I got my brother and his wife who live nearby to finally visit a tiki bar!

      believe me, we debated A LOT whether or not to put them up. We had a need for something that could communicate upcoming pop-ups, events, new drinks, food specials, etc. But... we'd purposely hidden ALL technology so those screens would be a big departure. We ultimately decided that we could disguise them and seamlessly blend them into everything around them. Still haven't had time to frame them in bamboo, but that is the next step.

      @@ejrudisell Don't get me wrong; the entire place was perfect. It just made me scratch my head for a moment when I walked in, but I LOVED the experience and can't wait to visit back in Indy to make another visit!

    The sommelier to tiki pipeline is a real thing? I’m sure Mr. Coy is at least a level or two above me, but wine and tiki seriously feel two worlds apart. That being said, fine taste and an appreciation for history are shared by both.

    • @ejrudisell
      @ejrudisell 2 месяца назад +1

      it's a thing. Myself and Chris Coy were wine geeks long before rum or cocktails. The now-closed restaurant that he referred to where Chris was the GM and Wine Director was called Black Market. At the time Chris was running the program we had over 350 bottles on the list. Heavily focused on old-world. And loved the eccentric stuff that hardly anyone pays attention to but should (i.e. Chateau Musar).
